Sorry but Shaun Hill wasn't as good as Alex. Shaun Hill got the starting role and got benched by Singletary (vs the Texans I believe), then Alex came in and played pretty well. Then Harbaugh brought Alex back because he knew he was a solid QB and the roster was stacked.

The biggest mistake in 49ers history was Eddie D's reaction to losing the 1990 Championship. Getting rid of Ronnie Lott, Matt Millen, and many other team leaders that led to them missing the playoffs the next year and angering Charles Haley which led to his trade. Not giving Joe Montana what he earned and deserved (an open competition for starting qb) would be the next worse mistake.
