Hi guys J Smith here welcome to ask go that channel and welcome to Cleveland zipcore XL irons now XL must mean extra large because this thing is not exactly what you call small I’m a blade player so I look at something like this and it automatically looks like a massive

Battering around Golf Club if you’re a player that wants confidence inspiring looks this is the golf club that you want however actually from Cleveland’s point of view this is the player side because you’ve also got the Halo the Halo is their hybrid head well it’s an iron but it’s basically a hybrid head

I’ve got them to test as well I’ve also got the XL2 drivers I’ve also got the fairywood the hybrid the Highwood that is a really interesting Golf Club I’ve got the Halos to do and also some wedges got the RTX CPX Force if you want to watch those videos guys make sure you

Get down there subscribe and also get the Bell icon on that’s a notification Bell that will let you know when I upload all these new lovely videos coming from Cleveland we got main frame in the 4 to 79 for to7 I is the same as

What you have in the shrien IR shrien is their kind of sister company so you get all the good things from shrien into bleeding into the uh Cleveland Range as well when it comes to the eight to pitch and wedge you have the zip core the zip

Core is where they take weight out the heel and move it around the face to try and move center of gravity Etc remember these are quite big heads you have the V Sal at the bottom Cleveland’s idea of turf interaction whilst trying not to get too much dragging and turf

Interaction inter I’ll have to do a video video on that one in the future anyway cuz that’s an interesting topic in itself so let’s go give this one a whack into the green we are at Glen for Golf Course hold 10 it’s a par four

Normally but I have moved the te box up to 182 yards yes 182 yards is a long way for a 79 I’ve got the 57 uh n and Sand Wedge as well cuz I just when it comes to these things uh Cleveland uh they do a lot of wedges Etc

And that’s a great thing where you can mix and match if you want to blend if you don’t want the sandwich on this one which is quite a big sandwich in the XL obviously and you want to go more of a bladed they do the RTX they do cbx 4S

That’s why got all those ones cuz I want to do a separate video on all the different wedge choices right um looks wise we have a quite a decent size thick um top line for an iron we have sole thicknesses we have that V uh shape sole

Which is quite an interesting look but we also have a medium thickness to it and blade lengths well they are not small these are confidence inspiring golf clubs you put this down by the golf ball and um yeah compared to what I use this thing is Big so if you want

Something to look at which is effectively think about closing rise and hidden it uh and still make contact this is the one for you right let’s go see if we can get over that water and onto the green somewhere 29° on this which is a 7

IR what I like on the bottom there actually does say 29° a lot of golf club manufacturers Just put numbers on them and crank them when it comes to a 79 what is a 79 nowadays when it comes to Loft I can remember traditionally a 79 being

37° if you have a look at there 99 it’s 38 times change and move on right let’s go give this one a hit and see how this one does into a green well that’s a wonderful tow to start but again doesn’t really matter on this because you just hit it where you

Want is it going to make it of course it is you can hit it anywhere that’s a really good shot to be fair look how bad strike that was Club power zero fa is slightly open that’s why it started off to the right 17 mil toe doesn’t matter

You can hit it where you want on these things this is the great thing with game improvement irons game improvement irons offer so much help and so much forgiveness you can mess around hitting them from Weir a wonderful spots and of course I will be doing my full

Forgiveness testing yes I will whacking them all over the face there’s an example of just how forgiving these things are that’s gone 39 yards in the air and 50° of Center angle at 174 yards of carry um as 3/4 an inch off the middle yeah it is funny using these kind

Of and Cleveland are brilliant at these not only have they got technology packed heads but they actually come at a really decent price as well now Cleveland are a in the worlds of Manufacturers seen as possibly a medium brand they’re not the premium brand although again that’s just

What people perceive them to be I see Cleveland with the looks of these golf clubs I mean they look every bit as good as a game improvement iron could be or should be they do look really quite nice feeling on that considering this is a cast Golf Club it actually felt pretty

Good right let’s do a better job of hitting the middle this time not mess around that’s going to be hugging the right hand side slightly low on the face but I think you’d agree absolutely fine it’s just these ridiculous These Eyes Club half point four inside fa is

Again slightly open 7 mil Low 4 mil heel not bad really just slightly low on the face 37 yards in the air and 49° of Center angle carry 179 ah these are punching now the interesting thing is when you look at this this is one degre stronger than my

Six9 29° I’ve got a blade set which is traditionally lofted 34° for 79 30° for 69 this is 29 and my 30° goes 178 yards hit fairly well that is still 11 mil gross off of the middle and it’s still doing exceptionally well it’s still going further okay it’s one degree

Stronger but that is not middle uh it’s already going higher than my six iron does it’s already stopping steeper than my six iron does and that is not middle that’s why you have center of gravity that’s why you have all these game improvement side of things so when

People need help getting the golf ball up in the air that’s is what these things do exceptionally well we are hitting a green 180 yards away now that’s left that was me saying my face is open by two degre the last two shots let’s close this one down a little

Bit done too much uh path is zero but face is now too closed rather than two open that’s not two that’s yeah yeah we kind of get the idea um it’s still going 40 yards in the air and 49 degre to an angle however it’s gone fraction left

Because again that is me trying to adjust for the fact that had my face too open so far but that is flying 191 yard now I am fully warmed up yes I am my normal operating temperature 91 92 milph I will be doing these tests though when

It comes to turning all this off hitting this a bunch of times to see how it works from offc Center hits with a forgiveness side of things I will also be testing this at three different swing speeds my normal three different swing speed testing because this is not going

To be potentially for elite golfers this is going to be for golfers that want help getting distance want help getting ball up in the air and so I’ll be doing my test at 70 80 and 90 mph to Encompass as many golfers as possible but I tell

You what considering this is a game improvement iron it’s a cast iron it’s a technology packed rocket of an iron it doesn’t actually feel that bad now feel to me is massive cuz I’m a blade player this isn’t bad at all that’s open I could feel it it’s not bad it’s

Just slightly open it’s just really good it’s just really really good I can’t complain power couple of degrees from the inside yay uh face one open there you go 2 m low four mil toe not bad strike whatsoever that is 43 yards in the air 51° to Center angle wow

182 that is a mighty long way going Mighty High and stopping Mighty quickly for something of this nature now okay I am swinging at 91.7 miles now this is my fully warmed up speed and yes if you are going to swing at a slightly different

Lower speed you are not going to get the super Heights and the super descent angles I’m seeing right now but it is relative again all golf clubs will do that so we’re not just picking on this one we’re picking on all golf clubs golf clubs look really good when you got a

Pro hitting them at 90 mph and of course you put that in a 70 mph swing and it then doesn’t quite work so well hence why I do my testing at three different swing speeds to see actually how it really works in the real world when you start dialing speedback right one more

Go and I’ve missed the green once hit the green the rest of the time so we’re doing quite well at the moment when it comes to the percentages of from this distance of hitting the green that’s just really good I’ll take that all day long much uh much better

Delivery course straight over the pin look how well that stops go on stop a bit is it it’s still on the green that counts Club half zero face is zero slightly toey 7 m toe 4 M low which is not bad whatsoever really but well there

You go 40 yards in the air and 50° to Center angle 49.4 184 yards these things are Mighty impressive they really really are the only thing I don’t like them uh like about them really is the fact of how big they are but that’s their selling point

The part of the XL is the fact that they are XL if you want something which is confidence inspiring and I tell you what this thing is definitely confidence inspiring these are mighty mighty impressive Ires right let’s go turn this off let’s go whack this all over the

Face make sure we get some real cracking good ones especially at the heel as well CU we haven’t tested out the heel and low on the face as well and let’s go see how uh impressive this EXL is from Cleveland when it comes to forgiveness also hitting three different swing

Speeds to see what happens when you take swing speed off how well they perform then so let’s go see how the Cleveland zipcore XL irons got on when I hit it all around the face test the forgiveness and also done the normal testing that I do at three different swing speeds 70 80

And 90 miles hour to see how well these perform when you start taking speed away so I’ll try and get all the information up on the screen I’ve got three different colors the red the yellow the blue the red is the 70 M hour the yellow

Is the 80 M now and the blue is the 90 M hour so you can see 98 mph bll speed on the slow one um on the medium one which is the 80 mph it’s 110 111 rounded and then goes out to 124 no surprise obviously when you’re dialing speed up

The main thing is on a you look at carry distances of 140 yards from a 70 mph swing speed 140 yards carry is a darn good number um 163 for the 80 mph and 182 yes for the 90 mph we’re talking about Peak Heights so Peak Heights in

Descent angles control when you take speed away and it going 22 yards in the air and basically 40° of Center angle at 70 M now then this is the point I tried to make when it comes to taking Speedway you saw on the simulator there that when

You hit it at 91 92 mph it goes massively high and does really well um you start taking speed away and it doesn’t quite do as well that’s say that’s fair to say um but it’s still doing fine these are 7 irons remember these 29° they got 140 yards at 70 mph

And it’s still at 40° Cent angle which is the cut off point I would say anything that goes into the 30s uh as a norm you’re going to be looking at stopping there and going into something that’s going to be a little bit more helpful and again um if you deliver

Similar to me we’ll go to the club head data in a sec but you could get away with a 79 of this at 70 mph carry 140 yards and still stop it on the green six IR no we’re having a different conversation about what either Golf Club

To have you could either have something like the Halo which is a much bigger iron which will gear the golf ball a little bit better just try and get the golf ball a little bit higher so that’s a possibility in the six or most probably going to go to a full hybrid um

But if you go 80 mph 16 63 30 yards in the air 44.4 de to Cent angle that is stopping on any green no problem whatsoever have a six iron again no problem whatsoever again the five iron I would definitely be thinking about uh moving into a hybrid rather than a five

Iron or going something like a five Halo if you want a little bit extra help and then when it comes to the 90 miles now have what golf clubs you want because you go 182 yards carry 40 yards in the air and nearly 50° Center angle you

Could be popping uh six irons five irons if you wanted no problem but Point you’re going to be doing well over 200 yards carry and going into your Woods let’s go look the club data quickly we’ve got 70 mph 80 mph 90 mph and they’re all 10 mph apart bar .1 of a

Degree or so and we got efficiency 1.39 1.38 1.38 uh efficiency is within 01 we’re talking attack angles within one degree um we got Club half very small amounts face the path very small amounts Loft the most important thing 26.2 26.1 1 and 26.1 these are 29° ions 7 irons

But okay when you start taking speed away Etc to try and get these apples for apples testing you must make sure that you deliver the same Loft and within 0. one of a degree it’s all the same and then uh face impact strike is basically very very similar as you can see so

Let’s go test the Forgiveness how well does this thing do when you don’t quite hit the middle first of all we need to find out what happens when you do hit the middle and how well it works we’ve got one here 1 M High Zer M Hill So

Within in 1 mil absolutely perfect uh 1.38 that is a mighty good number we’ve got a face which is slightly open but 25.7 de of Loft it’s got 186 yards uh 50° of Center angle 41 yards in the air that’s having no problem stopping whatsoever so what happens when we hit

It slightly Healy this is 10 m heel 3 mil high so about half an inch gross off of middle but on the heel and we have a face which is slightly closed but a loft to 26.6 we have got slightly a little bit more Loft and a slightly close face

They normally cancel each other out 1.35 so we’re dropping 0.03 from perfect which again half an inch off the heel is not bad at all like really isn’t if we go slightly more 16 mm he 2 mil low so we are now talking 3/4 an inch off the uh off the middle

Heel side which is generally speaking for a golf club not good uh we got 1.32 so we are losing a little bit now 0.06 from perfect we have got a face which is slightly open and a slightly more I mean it’s 3 degre more Loft it’s just the

Heel strike now these are Big golf clubs yes they are but there’s always a certain amount that any golf club can do when it comes to heel strikes um losing 0.06 from 3/4 of an inch off the heel is actually pretty good we’re still going

37 yards in the air and 48 degrees of Center angle 179 we’re losing a fraction when it comes to its carry but it’s doing mighty mighty well that’s uh swap over for a low toe 11 mil low 7 mil toe again 18 m MIM gross off of middle 3/4

An inch off of middle but 11 mil low is not good whatsoever Club half two from the inside face is zero basically and loft is within half degree of maxed out 1.35 so again we’re not losing that much 0.03 from 18 mm gross low toe is very

Very good 36 yards in the air and 48° of Center angle again that’s stopping on any green whatsoever and we haven’t really lost much in the way of carry even though it’s a slightly faster swing speed um is just how it gets there and it’s just doing really very very well if

You push it a little bit more 12 mil toe 10 mil D we now 22 mm gross it’s still doing Mighty well 1.35 now the face is slightly closed loft is basically bang on but the face is slightly closed and you generally speaking get a little bit

More efficiency when you have a closing face and so we’re at 1.35 which is not bad whatsoever 35 yards in the air and 47° of Center angle again um staying very very close or very very similar to what the maxed out number are we’re not dropping that much in either um

Efficiency or Peak Heights and descent angles it’s just doing very very well just do a normal toe just a standard normal 12 mil toe 1 mil low still 13 mm is half an inch off the middle on the toe side we’ve got a face which is zero

0.8 clothes which is baby shot and 25.0 degrees offo within a very small amount of Max 1.39 it just does well now it is a fraction more than I want obviously that’s a slightly closed face a slightly de lofted amount so that is um taking a little bit deflection away so it’s

Artificially giving you a bigger number um this is effec to 1.38 and it is just as good as right out of the screws this thing is ridiculously forgiving off of just normal nominalized everyday Mish hits okay if you’re going to Mish hit big even though this is a big Golf Club

Of course there’s going to be an efficiency drop and a little bit of bll speed drop Etc but it does very very well this go 16 mm toe 2 m low again 3/4 an inch off the toe this time we got 1.37 now face is very fractionally shut

It’s 1.7 closed and a loft is slightly lower as well 24.6 you have to be honest about that and so this is adding probably it’s between other 0. 2 to 0.1 let’s just say 0 2 let’s be as harsh on this golf club as we possibly can do 1.35 that’s losing

0.3 from Max from 3/4 of an inch off the toe it’s doing really well and it hasn’t lost anything when it comes to car it’s a fraction FAS CL speed but we are talking very very small 39 yards in the air and 49° of Center angle it’s just

Working really really well and we’ll just finish off with a just a weird and wacko one because this is a very big Golf Club let’s push it let’s go crazy 27 M toe zero mil low yeah I felt that one um Club half is 1.9 from the inside

And face is just baby close 0.5 which is nothing 24.7 Dees Loft so it is 1 Dee less Loft than Max so we have to take that into count and 1.30 that’s losing 0.08 yes it is but 27 mm away from middle there are golf clubs

Around guys when it comes to blades and very small players irons that if you were to hit 27 mm toe you’d near on miss it and the fact I can guarantee you your efficiency would be much lower than 1.30 these irons are very very good they are they’re very very springy they’re

Very very good off M hits they are very very big and that gives them the advantage that just through just pure size you can’t get around physics but these do really really well so the conclusion I would say when it comes to the Cleveland zipcore XL irons now they

Look really nice from the back I actually quite like them I’m not a great fan of busy golf clubs but these are not that busy but they look for a big Golf Club very very nice feel actually for again a Cast Tech inspired very busy tech-wise Golf Club they actually don’t

Feel bad I was expecting to um hear or feel AES distinct firecracker going off but it’s actually not that bad again when we go to the Halo irons they are basically hybrid heads and yes they’re going to sound completely different but these sound really quite good performance you can’t complain these are

29° so they are very strong lofted 79 yes they are but you can see by the data when it comes to the 70 80 and 90 milph if have watched any of my reviews where I’ve done the three different swing speeds you’ll see even these are 29° they are actually launching the golf

Ball one of the best that I’ve ever tested so it’s do doing really quite well forgiveness again as you see you can’t complain whatsoever with having a golf club that big that you can miss it 27 mm off the toe still make decent contact and it goes where you want it to

  2. They remind me of Mizuno JPX 923's with the launch characteristics. Looks like a great club for mid/high HC. This coming from a JPX 923 HL fan boy myself.

  3. Seems to have all of Srixon's tech in a bigger package. So it's basically a ZX-3 which is a fantastic idea, lol.

  4. Cleveland, owned by Dunlop, who were owned by Frasers used to be Sports Direct international, are now owned by Sumitomo who are owned by SRI sports…. Hope that clears it up for anyone wondering! 👀🤔
I do love the club loft on the club. Any HH golfers should look no further than these clubs, for the price they just about tick every box for game improvement irons and not at £100 a club.

  5. Always great job with these tests Jay Im sure keeps you busy ! I think also would be great to see how the clubs do outdoors with wind and turf conditions. Enjoying the content.👍

  6. Great stuff Jay. Seems like the Callaway Max Fast/HL irons get better height/spin/descent angle at 70-80 mph ss. Would love to see a comparison of the Eleven irons vs the Halos vs the Max Fast/HL for swing speed of 70-80 mph. This would compare the best traditional iron(MF/HL) vs hybridish iron(Halo) vs full hybrid iron(Eleven). that range of ss is who these clubs are for and it will show how much advantage, if any, a type of iron will benefit the average ss player.
