Today I tried the new Wilson ZM Staff Model wedges. The forged head, ZM grooves and more, suit my golf swing and the style of my shortgame. With the spinner shaft I can generate more backspin and over all I was impressed but I’ll let you decide. Sit back and enjoy the new wedge offerings from Wilson Golf.

Listen to this that’s rough under here I have two Wilson ZM staff model wedges Lovely So these look very cool don’t they the club faces had a gar blast what does that do that increases the roughness on the surface of the face let me try this is genuinely the first ball I hit with this wedge forged head oh my they spin so the advantages of the gar blast

To make the face surface rough or more rough what’s the advantages well the idea behind this Wilson’s idea behind this approach is to ensure that spin is more consistent and that is from wet lies semi- rough lies fluffy lies can you hear that that noise is a noise of a forged Golf

Club making contact with a golf ball I love that so a lot of your golf clubs look at your Aoki wedge is that forged I’ll let you go and do some research on that your tailor made wedges are they forged let do some research on that probably the face is the whole

Head’s forged for the Forgiveness or for the the feel not sure so this club comes with the face that’s designed to apply consistent Spin and more spin feels so good when you are in po lies wet lies fluffy lies that’s vitally important you want consistency within your golf game

You don’t want to know if it’s going to spin not going to spin if you’ve got a w that’s consistently going to spin from most lies let’s be honest I mean if you’re in a heavy rougher you’re in serious crap then of course it’s not going to spin but you want a consistent

Spin rate right through the board right across all levels of lie and weather conditions one characteristic I really like here is the middle of the face if you look at the line of the Leading Edge and the bottom Groove and then compare the distance between Leading Edge and

Bottom Groove there and there it shows there not too much coverture and it’s not perfectly flat so there’s a little bit of curve but definitely not straight line definitely not super curve and why is that of interest to me I like to get the toe of that club into the ground I

Like to get the heel off the ground too much curve gives me too much room for maneuver no curve straight edge if the light is not great I like to get that shot play off the toe get the heel slightly off the ground it’s just got

Exact amount of curve I need to play that shot love it I know what you’re thinking okay Steve you’re a Wilson Ambassador you’re obviously going to blag about these or brag about these golf clubs well of course I am however don’t pay me money you give me a couple

Of wedges go and try them let me know what you think Steve if you think they’re crap tell us they’re crap tell everyone they’re crap they’re not crap look they’re not crap results when it comes to options what options do they have well there’s 15 options there’s 46°

All the way up to 64 wo careful now there’s one shaft one grind so one shaft one grind the shaft is a spinner shaft slightly softer tipping that applying more spin to your shots the grind is beautiful absolutely beautiful and of course there’s bounce options 1 2 3 4 5 6 13 yards from the so the bounce options there is a mid bounce a low bounce and a high bounce low bounce is 60° your mid bounce is from 8 to 10 I believe and then the higher B 12 and above that there is

544 with 8 de of B and midb I did mid BS with everything even my sand got 50 and 54 50 but the meds I find allows me to Cle all these shots so it was a mid trajectory and low trajectory I can play I’m only 13 y from the [Applause]

Here with a mid bounce 54° and I can play all three of those shs we have I love the way the shield in the back dropped the Ws you’ll see my clothing not today you’ll see my clothing the Ws and the Wilson Staff which normally sits in there WS it’s gone how clean

That uh it’s so smooth the forc 8620 carbon steel gives it a super super soft feel I mentioned earlier there that there was one shaft there’s more shaft options what I meant to say was there one finish just absolutely beautiful so that was a we mid trajectory added bloft used

The bounce let’s get a low one no bounce more Leading Edge orientated so there there little low soft they don’t go in I did run that one out a little bit far but the turf interaction so using Leading Edge so little interaction just there few feels incredible then if I use

The bounce a little bit more so more of a neutral shot so not trying to get height just just natural back of the club interacting with the ground that checked up amazing and of course as I say I’ve Not got my 58 but 54 I can open

Up and get the back of that club to make contact with the ground because the grind is so cool Li there on its back Edge just let the club interact so the V city with the one grind you can see the angle going up away from Leading Edge to

Your bounce angle then it’s ground off at the back for opening the face and then of course drops off from there I’m not sure the technological chat all behind that but I tell you what it’s playable it’s more than Playable Lost ball though 1 2 3 4 12 ft happy 1 2 3 four 5 6 7 eight yards to the green four yards from green to P my options are available do the job I can run set down justed for head I try to decelerate imps longer BS from

Shter just speak it wasn’t fad it’s in the mud and the bounes help me I’m only only 4T 5 ft one 6 ft even the sun’s come out to play so 50° as well of course that keeps it lower I’m doing everything today with 54

I want to be the 54 guy that plays his 54 everywhere and I’ve now got the right Club to do it so now this is a different shot I’m only one and a half got on four five ft from the edge of the green now this has got seven iron written all over

It I’m going to try and use my 54 to the best of my ability if I want to be hitting all these shots at 54 I have to keep it low so my weight’s on my left side fuel look at that tough interaction because of the grind Brant ball off the

Toe let it go let it release I thought it was going to win at one point so it comes off quite quick notice that I’ve played everything I played this shot it’s got away from me just a fraction took a lot off that one that’s good that’s very

Good it’s just a little ball tough there’s no way I’m digging in there’s no way but strike just seems really easy strike seems really easy I don’t know if it’s it’s the it’s the cboard it’s the grind off the back but also the slope off the

Front so the bounce angle being a mid bounce is obviously perfect for me for this shot and of course yeah I can I can add more Loft as mentioned before just use more bounce on the back so just back through pop it higher let release it stop pretty

Quickly didn’t it but having that low Runner that low running 54 I think that hit a hole the Green’s been CED it’s barely much so performance- wise 9 and 1/2 out of 10 nothing gets 10 out of 10 does it for luks they definitely get 10 out of 10 that

Traditional peer shaped head it’s absolutely outstanding as I say that curve on the Leading Edge is just the win for me an absolute win this spinner shaft also love the fact that there’s that forgiveness within the tip if you like um just adds a few more RPM on there and I’m able to

Control ball better with that wedge it’s great on Fuel shots I tried the 50 earlier on in Fuel shots and it really is it just fills that Gap obviously because of the Loft that I need but I just felt when it comes off there the forged head there’s no better feeling to

Hit a forg golf club and the forgiveness in these for a bladed wedge is is up there it’s absolutely brilant to have that feel in fact you have to experience it to have that feel if you’ve not hit a forged Club if you’ve been game improvement clubs or perimeter weighted

Clubs or cast head clubs all your life grab a 50° wedge that’s forged grab one of these Wilson Staff model with ZM grooves that’s the Clincher give it a try one thing I never mentioned was when playing it is a longer rough like this you’ll never get a flyer those flyers are

Gone they’re a thing of the past now we playing it the longer rough because of the consistency with the ZM groups thanks for watching thanks for going to my website eure gool swing.com thanks for subscribing thanks for hitting the like button thanks for everything I’ll see you in my next video bye-bye

  1. I had the last version, the 60° started to spot rust- I enquired to Wilson to see if they were supposed to rust… nope. They asked for them back. Clarkes Golf ended up refunding me and I bought a set of Vokeys (with the obvious upcharge) – Wilsons customer care was great though.

  2. Bet I can still thin it..😂 They do look good and glad Bob & Roger have competition and their prices have gone stratospheric…

  3. Sound very nice I had the ones previous to these but now plat tms hi toe love the full face groves, prefer the w/s in the sheild

  4. I love the bore through shafts … I have always preferred that feel which to me is noticeable and significant and still play an older Yonex driver with that bore through

  5. I looked up the Wilson Staff ZM wedges, and they are a full-face grooved wedge. The wedges in your video do not have full-faced grooves. Are there two different Wilson ZM Wedges?

UPDATE: I now see that the High Toe wedges are full-face grooved. Seems to me the full-faced groove model might be the better choice for guys like me who don't always hit the ball in the center of the face. What's your opinion?

  6. I had a great personal lesson from last year – (yes do so if you can get to south of Scotland) – however my main memory is the amazing sound of the short wedges you made (not me unfortunately!….. but still very helpful) …..no matter how new/great wedges 99% of us buy we would not be able to make the wedge shot and sound you make !!…… fantastic talent you have . Eric

  7. Still haven't hit anything that is as consistent and versatile as the Edison 2.0 forged wedges.

  8. Nice looking wedges. Have to say that the high end Wilson products are beautiful. Love the blades and the CBs plus the putters are fantastic!

  9. Steve, I suspect you could get a better strike (and hence more spin) with a frying pan, than I could with a perfectly forged wedge. 😂

  10. I've been golfing a long long time since 1968 my first time and got down to a 4 hdcp in the mid 80's to early 2000's self taught and the best wedge I ever had and I've had quite a few was my Wilson Staff JP II 60* from the mid late 80's. Matter of fact I still play Wilson Staff Tour Blades '77 / '78 model 2-PW. I may have to ditch my old Vokey's and give Wilson a serious look. They do look amazing. Thank you sir.
