Okay hi everyone we’re back for another YouTube video this week we are competing at the optasia Championships at the wooden Club the men’s is a gold event and the women’s is a bronze event so it’s going to be a good one nice to be competing at home Tori what your

Thoughts on the event well I’m really excited for this event because it’s uh my first bronze event and it’s even better because it’s in England and very local so yeah really looking forward to it and we’ve got the dad driving us to the event uh we’re at the physio now and

Then we’re going to go to the club to get a practice hitting so come along with us made it to the uh the club T you coming out I’m coming wait I’m coming that right there is where they play the wi and Tennis Championships and here is the

Squash venue look how good to’s looking at a new bag class is it new techie kit techn was the new sponsor if you didn’t Realize glass cour Arena So that was a quick view of the club and the setup at the oasa Championships me and tor then headed into the club uh inside the main courts to have a little practice it just get a feel for the for the bounce in this court cuz I was

Actually playing my first round on this court but Tori played on the glass we just did 10 minutes warming up together and then she had a hit on the glass with another player and then I was meant to hit with someone else but then my dad

Ended up feeding me some balls so again just getting used to the court cuz this court at the wimon club is actually very fast and bouncy so you’ve got to have a good early racket preparation you’ve really got to find your targets cuz the ball does stick on the wall very nicely

On this court so it’s rewarding one of the nice things was that I actually did I have play on this court quite a lot in Sor Cup matches in my league so I know I know what to expect and I know where I should be aiming for the ball to be

Going and what areas to be hitting uh so it’s just nice to get on this court again and hit a few balls actually with my new racket so if you can see I’m using a 10 one here this is mat new sponsor so shout out to techy for the new Kit All right here we are it’s game day so this morning I’m having a practice with Demitri styman from Switzerland we again we get allocated 25 minutes practice slots on the court we’re playing on uh so we just did some Basics get the drops and drives bow and drives moving around

A little bit uh and then we went into some length rallies and a couple of four Court ones I think players have different preferences and what they want to do before a game later on in the evening so we just wanted to move around a little bit get the legs ready for for

Action so yeah good little session so here I’m doing a solo for my practice in the morning before my match in the evening I wasn’t feeling my best but under the weather so I was keeping it light to save all my energy for later all right guys me and cures are

Just walking back to the car after just chilling at uh Mark Hill’s house just to get ourselves out the club eat some food energize up for our matches um I’m on at 5:30 p.m. against Nora Villard on the Glass Court and I’m on at 5:45 on the traditional Court against Andrew Douglas

So yeah yeah it’s a bit annoying cuz not my cour isn’t streamed today but Tor is on the glass so that’s good yeah anyways but wish us luck and we’re looking forward to it here we are in the clubhouse with a few friends pre-match nice to be able to

Catch up with them just before me and Tor play and have their support in both of our matches he so unfortunately that was the only clip that was obtained from my match with Andrew Douglas uh it’s hard for my dad or one of my siblings to video while they’re watching cuz they’re so

Engrossed in the match but I did manage to get the win through love so on to the next round starting off my first round here against Nora Villard here are some clips of my [Applause] match is a blinding start very very powerful hitting stroke to see we saw it

There sorry yeah we’re going back to with the hips and the knees into the shot Malik will stand there in good stead in terms of injury it’ll protect that lower back area as she progress see that from that from another angle I feel yeah quiet not not in terms of know shouting out

But goodness me that is an absolute Ripper by the power of Grace go she’s absolutely ripped this in wow oh that’s a wicked down and the area go [Applause] so it’s the morning after the uh first round match managed to win three love against Andrew Douglas I’m here this

Morning with Hon right yeah good uh having a practice H nice thing cuz I can stay at home in between the T in between the matches tor’s at home resting she’s feeling a little bit under the weather so she’s going to rest for tomorrow so

It’s actually a rest day today uh so I’m having a hit with hon and then later I’ll go and have a practice from the glass and watch some of the matches for tomorrow so yeah hopefully hen can sharpen me up for go ad tomorrow just doing another solo before

My second round match I wasn’t feeling great at all to be honest so I could only really do a short solo day of round two and I’m actually having my practice hit with Muhammad Al shagi one of the legends of the game and someone who I really respect and enjoy

Getting on caught with so maximize the little time we had on court in the morning to get ready for match with goad as you can see both me and MOA chatting some tactics for our matches tonight obviously he knew I was playing goad and uh I knew he was playing Rory Stewart

Both players we’ve never played before so just giving each other a little help in hand unfortunately I can’t give you the sound on what we’re chat About today on the PSA World Tour representing England it’s Curtis Malik [Applause] here we go round two of the op Asia championships 2024 against kareim Abdel goad I thought I started off the match really well actually uh got into the rallies quite early on hit some good tight lines stopped him from attacking

Too much but here are some clips from the from the whole match so just going to let you watch them and enjoy make your own view of what you thought of the match and how it went the a fews disappear yesterday which made the pronunciation very difficult that play

Golf and their brother plays professional tennis wow I mean we’ve got quite a lot of siblings just in in in squash at a very high standard but all of the Maliks are pretty really that attention to detail is Absolut Paramount game ball for goad oh that’s a lovely hold this is

Where that attention to detail the discipline from Malik is absolutely imperative good hitting straight well go just trying to hunt to get on the voling rush take the time away yeah he’s gone up a couple of mountains here goad he’s trying to ramp up need to defend well defend smart Malik In This

Moment yeah that was tough Gan up the crowd so another game ball for Alik oh how cute is he playing these angles that’s so Gaard that’s defending in this rally oh oh no so as you can see goad ended up running away with the fourth game too com three for my liking but I can’t take anything away from the first three games I played and another great experience on the PSA World Tour

Start the highest ranking of 60 currently number four or five years on to Alex first game against inor Valar but didn’t really get to see the physicality tested the the movement front to back right up in at the front corners and stretched out into the back

So I’m interested to see how that holds up with the pressure forari in this first game looking pretty good out there you have to say Court warming up it’s a lovely boast oh she got it oh she almost couldn’t believe she got it didn’t quite have enough time to

Reset yeah look how close she’s taking to the front wall there Malik she dealt with that quite well oh I tell you what that is that PO hand is absolutely ferocious 610 gam when she connects with it it’s just a different sound altogether yeah beautiful finish there

117 be cool if the quazer could go on the the actual [Applause] tin it’s a bit too open that from Malik needs to be a bit of patience yeah she got there in the end though four all [Applause] 11 yeah it’s a good point she’s not absolutely Welling that one in it’s very

[Applause] Calculated oh oh [Applause] no loveely Ser yeah not even asking back certainly not having it all her own way hi guys it’s another team mic Vlog I’m here with Danny Lee the um promoter and instigator of the Octavia Championship Danny just give us a couple

Of words on how you come about how many years you’ve been running the event well this will be our eighth event but with Co and that we started in 2015 with a small 25k event George’s Hill the sponsor B my D said how can we

Get a a bigger event and I said sponsor a couple of players so he sponsored the shaggies and uh put a bit more money in so put 100 Grand in and and here we are today M your uncle and it’s great that we’ve got a women’s event as well which

Is great I mean it’s really good see I saw there’s a lot of school kids coming in so the Grassroots are coming in on Thursday the first day to watch so that’s fantastic news as well yeah so on the Tuesday and Wednesday so the schools came in Stacy Ross from this club has

Squash Squad scheme and other schools some Queens Club as well which one of the schemes so we’re both for promoting young players getting everybody playing the game too well well fantastic thanks for getting that and just Danny just a couple of things on your own world ranking how high did you get remind

Everyone I got to 30 in the world 30 in the world and you’ve got a claim to fame W to remind me but I got a game off J C during his five three year winning streak Danny thank you very much for everything you do good work thank you all right welcome

Back to day three of the oasa Championships uh today I played at 12:45 and Tor was at 145 on 145 uh I played Kareem Abdel gwad and then ended up losing 3-1 three really really close games and then one rubbish game which is a bit annoying uh

Tor how did you get on uh I played CTO what an Abby from Japan I lost free love um wasn’t playing nowhere near as well as I know I can play but I’ve been a little bit under the weather so I’m not going to beat myself up too much but

When I when she says a little bit under the weather she was really ill so I think she did really well considering today uh so why don’t sorry thank you uh on my part I’m pretty pleased with the performance I put in today I felt like I

Didn’t feel like I was out of place on that court I felt like I pushed him pushed him to play some of his best squash in the end uh which is a good sign just a little bit annoyed not to keep consistent for more than three games but that’s what’s needed to take

Myself to the next level uh and with more of the stuff I’ve been working on in training I think over the next few months to a year I can really start pushing the top guys more consistently uh it’s just it’s about getting those experiences and learning

As much as I can from them and then it’s all about the mental side getting that bit right so yeah really enjoyed the opat Championships it was probably one of the best tournaments I’ve been at again really well run by Danny Lee and PSA and Tim Garner so massive thanks to

Them uh I’m signing out for the day and Tor any last words I just want to go to bed and thank everyone thanks for watching and don’t forget to like And subscribe and we’ll see you on our next video all right cheers and a massive well done to PA

Cole and satom watari for winning the optasia championship 2024

  1. Sheeeesh, that point in Curtis' Gawad match at 6-6 in the 2nd @ 13:19 was immense. You defended that aggression amazingly until the unfortunate movement at 14:04. It looked a bit like fatigue but then you ended up winning that game! All games incredibly close until the last; what happened in the last game in your eyes?

Torrie can fairly lash the ball… definitely one of the more powerful women on the tour. Just a matter of finding the right moments to use it and it should be even more lethal.

  2. Amazing effort from the Maliks ! Congrats on your respective results. When you play against players of such caliber, it would be very interesting (for me) to hear a bit more of your thoughts : what worked, what didn't, where they exploited something in your game, what do you think the difference is, etc.

Keep the footage coming and congrats on the sponsorship!

  3. First time on your channel, awesome content. To be able to see into the world of elite squash is very interesting. Awesome game against Gawad and Watanabe!

Good luck to the both of you in the future and keep pumping up more content!

    Cheers from Sweden

  4. You kept Gawad on his toes Curtis. Well done. He is a LEGEND. Both your and your sisters games have improved TREMENDOUSLY. WELL DONE to the family. I see its a full family thing.

  5. Excellent play Curtis. You definitely made Gawad work for it. Well done too Torrie – not easy when under the weather and playing such a talented player in Watanabe.

  6. Are you now using the Slash 125? Thoughts? I've had one for a few weeks and like it but not completely sold on it. I think teardrop suits me better.

  7. Well played Curtis and Torrie – I was there on Thursday watching you both. Impressive performances form you both against elite players, which I look forward to you both joining soon 😀 And was good to speak to you later that afternoon. I've just found your channel here so am now subscribed and looking forward to many more videos in the future as you rise through the rankings! 👊

  8. Well done Curtis. Going forward I noticed that when playing drops against Gawad , especially at the front right side your body/spine needs to soften, allowing greater feel on the drop. As your tall creating more thoracic/oblique rotation would be a major plus.

  9. A great little insight as to what goes on behind the scenes at a professional squash event!

Really enjoyed watching this and your on court performances Curtis & Torrie!
