Round one all right so let’s get started with round number one W this past Saturday from the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in my Verona New York on ESPN plus and the new WBA featherweight champion of the world the young man from Camden New Jersey who remained a buzs
Saww Raymond Ford down on two of the scorecards scores a dramatic stoppage over oktoc katov Mario it’s we’re going to be hardpressed to find a better more dramatic ending than that so we saw this fight together we were AA Lopez and enjoying this fight we saw a lot of
Fights yeah it was good time how good was that Fried Chicken we got to flurry that later thumbs up we got to flurry that that was Finger Licking Good more on that later um a lot of fights we were going back and forth with the UFC and
And with boxing but this was the MVP we saw two guys in their Prime fighting for the vacant title and they both fought like they wanted it there was no feeling out rounds they came out and they let the leather fly I got to be honest uh there was Becca’s uh
Stand’s kids I can’t pronounce that usbeck yeah USC pardon me how do you say his last name again I’m it’s katov katov pardon me yes katov came to fight katov looked huge for that weight class I kept going damn he looks big for that weight class he was letting that leather fly
And he was coming out really aggressive and I think he buzzed Ford uh a little early uh in the second round and Ford to his credit hung tough Ford tough and was able to come back strong himself in the middle rounds I thought skill-wise they seem to be pretty even
Even though they had different styles but the conditioning I thought was going to be a factor here and even though I thought katov was winning this fight he did look like he was fading to me as it went on he was still letting those hands fly but the punches didn’t have as much
Stank to them but he was being effective and mathematically he was still ahead but Ford was built for the long ha he was built for that long haul he was he was um down on the scorecards which I had him down on my scorecards and he was
Down on the judges I think you agreed as well and he seemed to bite down on that M mouthpiece and just let it all hang out in the 12th round and with 7 seconds left pulled it off in dramatic fashion I Bravo and I tip my hat to the kid kov my
Guy fought his hard out there’s it was that’s exactly it he fought his heart out but then it was broken because 7 seconds left you would have been a world champion oh and I don’t know if it was a case of maybe he exerted too much energy
Maybe he should have took his foot off the pedal a little bit you can always go back and second guess he has nothing to be ashamed of he fought bravely he fought valiantly Ford was a little too tough that night was able to close the show um when katov I thought was most
Effective when he was inside and he was doing that work to the body and he was closer even though it was a longer bigger guy when he was inside he was more effective as soon as the distance Ford started to time him and started to come over those punches with some hard
Shots and when he caught him in that 12th round with the I was like oh but once you turn your back and you don’t face the referee then there should be no debate of whether that was a fair stoppage or now you have to call it because you cannot do that Bravo Ford
You’re now a world champion welld deserved and I want to make this clear in defense of referee Charlie Fitch who I thought made the right call ladies and gentlemen for the last time we’re never going to address this again on this fine program there’s no such thing as a
Standing eight count now there used to be yes about 30 years ago has it been that long it’s been that long most commission 30 years ago we were in the was in the ‘ 90s yeah so basic you were like 28 no would you shut yeah you’re
Not that far off now can you call a knockdown if the ropes are holding you up in the estimation of the referee yes but that’s a mandatory eight it’s not a standing eight also kov was buzzed and Ford had hurt him and I didn’t see much protest couple of things coming into
This fight they were both southpaws but I thought one was a scalpel the real quick guy in Ford the other guy was the sledgehammer interesting thing about this fight it had the dynamic of the first Ray Leonard Tommy Hearns fight where the boxer became the stalker I
Thought in the middle rounds that katov was starting to feel some of the pressure and the physical strength if not the punching power of Raymond Ford now let’s take a look you think it was more of that than the he exerted him himself cuz I saw the leather fly just
As much it I thought honestly was more of a it was it was more of a conditioning Factor cuz I didn’t see the pouch punch output slow down I think that’s part of it but Raymond Ford is one of these quick fisted punchers that the hits you blind where he may not
Knock you out but he hits you in a way you don’t see it you become a little bit discouraged by all of that and Raymond Ford showed a lot of toughness and you take a look at what was going on going into the last 3 minutes two of the
Judges had it 106 103 for katov which meant that katov had seven rounds in the bank at that point if he just stays on his feet and you call it let’s say a 108 round let’s say Charlie Fitch gives him a mandatory eight he probably wins that
Fight I think like 115 to 114 or 114 to 113 so that how this that’s how close he was to escaping with that Victory colov and another perfect example of why we shouldn’t have open scoring right he would have skated we would treated exactly so that’s another perfect example so congratulations to Raymond
Ford who becomes the first B American product of match room and Eddie Hearn to be developed under that Banner now he gets to make some money but Mario on the co-feature is a guy that we just look and we’re like you know what he does everything wrong but for him it’s right
The ibf featherweight champion of the world Louie Alberto Lopez with a knockout in eight over rehea Mario I don’t know how you’re prefer for this guy Vado is tough Vado is tough I don’t know why they call him a deer cuz he’s more of a moose this kid can crack
He’s I guess cuz he’s elusive he a little Nim Hamed is with punching at these odd angles incredibly athletic little Mexican dude is slick in there and he’s a handsome kid and he’s he’s I don’t want to say he’s show boy but he’s flashy but but it’s so
Effective it doesn’t look right but it works for him he’s a little like navarete where the punches come from odd angles and they don’t seem like they’re going to connect but they do and when they do they do damage so these sort of guys you can’t kind of find that sort of
Sparring and they’re they’re well conditioned speaking of condition they’re always in well- conditioned and they’re tough as hell and they’re Relentless he was like a snowball sh shout out to the Japanese kid cuzz he was tough and he was beaten up by like the second round but they finally had to
Call that fight mercifully early on his right eye even got more asany I mean wow it was very noticeable and I don’t know how you get good sparring for vonado do you tell the young kid Hey kid throw every punch off balance off your wrong foot show no technique but land but leap
He but leap into it and have almost no form or technique do not do anything fundamentally correct and we’re going to pay you extra uh you take a look at the landscape at 126 here’s the belt holders Vado Ray Vargas who fights on Friday Rafa espanosa and Raymond Ford and a young
Contender Bruce Carrington one of our favorites dude this a t this a good little weight this a good little weight a champion I hope these guys stick around I know they’re all talking about moving up to 130 but I’m here’s the thing about a guy like Raymond Ford your
Value is in your belt right be very honest about that okay you’re a very good young fighter give three in that weight class dude I like Rafa a lot I like Rafa showed me a lot Rafa would win every jump ball he’s the tallest guy I like
Rafa a lot that out of that and then I’m going Vado for his overall track record then maybe Vado and then Ford skill and toughness and then and then I G to go Ford only because Ford had to pull it out of the back that’s only because of that and
These other guys are a little more resilient but but who’s to say that you know you never know with these sort of things but that’s a tough like it can go either way with those right you know who’s waiting in the wings inway oh god
Well our guy shushu too our boy car no he’s impressive too so yeah that’s a that’s an exciting weight class it’s an exciting weight class let’s hope they stick around that’s the thing though but vonado Lopez is one of those guys that was brought in as an opponent for a top
Ranked Prospect about three years ago the young kid out of Stockton and look he he has a loss to Ruben via who’s another good young contender when you fight Vado like a Ruben via you better box box and box some more and don’t get trapped inside and understand these
Punches are coming from all sorts of trajectories and launch angles everything he does is unorthodox I do not know how you prepare for it but that’s what makes it fun all right when we come back on the three knockdown rule on the UFC Fight Pass we have Jim
Lampley joining us on the championship hotline yoube welcome to the big leagues kid $1.2 million and I’m losing in this [ __ ] game what the [ __ ] this is a 400k flip if I win by way you get 10 grand C my [ __ ] Str for my
Fans i r it twice wow all in the call I’m [ __ ] leaving raise it up and we’re back on the three knockdown Rule and a very special guest joining us on the championship hotline and right now he’s working for ppv domcom he will be covering with the live chat knockout
Chaos from the kingdom arena in Riad Saudi Arabia coverage begins 10: a.m. Pacific and I’m being told that the main event will be around 3: p.m. Pacific 600 p.m. eastern time take note of that Mr Lopez and joining us right now a very special guest and a friend of the show
The Legend Jim Lampley hey the best in the game My Man my Applause for both of you and I am indeed a fan of the show I don’t know about Legend but I’m a fan of the show oh so appreciate you uh taking the time and it’s always a pleasure to
Have you on sir I’m excited to be able to hear you and see you and and have you in this uh space yet once again and I guess my first question is what do you make of this event in itself I mean it seems like his Excellency is sort of
Rescuing the sport to a certain degree where we’re getting these certain matches that we want to get and this is a fun fight I I’m a fan in the sense that in ganu because I’m an MMA fan as well did his thing over at UFC and left
There on top uh surprised a lot of people with his performance against Tyson fur he actually dro dropping him and now facing uh Anthony Joshua um we got some big individuals in there I’m looking forward to it but what are your thoughts well enanu seems quite intelligently
Aware that both of the recent legitimate British heavyweight boxing champions uh had some holes in their resumes and then we capable of the off night uh and he certainly managed to get hold of what most of us perceived to be an off knight from Fury uh and now we’ll see if he’s
Going to stumble into one of Joshua’s off nights as well uh but at the end of the day enano is a great story on his own the bio is amazing uh the Genesis through this whole process is amazing he’s a perfect illustration as to why boxing fans are less and less concerned
About whether the opponent is from boxing or MMA let’s just see a fight uh he helped to create an interesting fight against Fury and there’s no reason to believe that he ought to be completely outplaced by Anthony Joshua given the difficulties that Joshua has had against people who were perceived to be lesser
Fighters take note Andy Ruiz absolutely and when you just look at the just visually the Aesthetics here you have two guys that look like they’re just carved for marble I mean and ganu looks like a a a superhero with his build and so does Anthony Joshua these are what heavyweight champions or
Heavyweight fighters of this era you think uh would look like now mind you he may not have much boxing experience although he did box a little um when he was younger but he has a lot of fighting experience and he’s one who learns quick on the job and he’s a specimen of an
Athlete and well part of the part of the narrative going in here is how much did he learn in in the 10 Rounds against Tyson Fury uh and how much more aptitude does he now bring to a boxing match than was the case prior to those 10 Rounds I
Don’t know about you but I didn’t think there was any chance that he would do what he did against Fury uh and and of course you know that sets up The Logical question was that great inano was it bad Fury uh or was it some of both and again
Joshua is capable of bad Joshua we’ve seen it uh he’s also capable of great Joshua and great Joshua could very easily put enano on his back in two or three rounds and bad Joshua could possibly lose a decision to him so you know there are a lot of possibilities here that’s what
Entertainment is all about we’re going to be seeing more and more of these hybrid matchups as uh MMA gets broader and broader exposure and again what a resume what a personality in ganu is now keep this in mind with Anthony Joshua and he mentioned this this will be his
Fourth fight in 11 months and he’s saying I am now in the Rhythm I should have done this more Jim let’s go back a few months and you mentioned this fight was Fury and ganu one of those nights just how stunned were you because look I
Thought the fight was a novelty act I thought it’d go no more than four rounds right but when he got clipped and he got sent down were you as stunned as the rest of us 100% and nobody should be more embarrassed than me I’m the guy who
Just a few months ago was promoting the notion that Tyson Fury could be considered one of the greatest heavyweight champions of all time that he might be in the process of putting together a record that would match up against just about anybody that my very beloved closest male friend ever
Emmanuel Stewart had said to me over a dinner in Las Vegas not only will he be heavyweight champion but he will be an unbeaten and unbeatable heavyweight champion for a long time I bought into all of that because it was Emanuel who said it and boom uh look how wrong you
Can be or or look how great enanu actually was and is and of course you have the uh very colorful and enticing idea that Mike Tyson advised him Mike Tyson told him some of the things he needed to know about boxing and you know that may sound comical to some people
But you and I all three of us remember that Tyson was classically trained by a great boxing trainer he understands the craft so if he really got interested in inano maybe he had something to do with How well inano was able to do against Tyson Fury so Jim with that said and
Again it’s only one fight could have been a horrible night maybe the worst of all time do you did you come away with a different perspective of Tyson Fury in terms of where he stood in the heavyweight Pantheon yes and and part of the different view of
Tyson Fury was I thought he was serious I thought he was uh devoted enough that he was really trying to put together what Emanuel predicted for him a historically great record and I came to the conclusion that uh what seemed to have been more important in the months preceding that assignment was probably
His um vanity reality television show and once you enter the world of reality television you have entered the world of unreality uh you have invited yourself to a distorted view of what’s important and why it’s important etc etc so if he wound up less prepared than he should
Have been for inano I would look to how many hours of each day was he spending shooting meaningless scenes for a nonsensical television show around his estate in Mor Camp instead of focusing on getting ready for the fight I have to assume if Joshua has a brain and I I
Believe does that he took a look at that and said hm I think I better buckle down stick to my knitting and be really ready for this guy well a couple things one I do agree with Emanuel Stewart that when he’s on when he’s focused when he’s
Trained I think Tyson Fury could be a tough out for any heavyweight in any era because of his size because of his boxing ability his athletic ability even though he’s built like a bag of milk my guy can fight and I was there at a couple of those Deontay Wilder fights
And what he was able to do was really impressive and he really can fight but he’s also the type of guy that I think if distracted if he he’s not like a Manny Pacquiao who can juggle uh a recording career a movie career Poli a political career and box and still
Perform at a high level that’s why I put Pacquiao on such rare ER because he was able to balance all that Tyson Fury I don’t think is that guy that can be able to to balance all that with all that said I still think and correct me if I’m
Wrong I may be wrong Jim is it because they’re heavy weights that the danger factors because I don’t see a guy from MMA at welterweight coming and maybe having an upset moment like that or possible upset moment with say a Terrence Crawford okay I don’t see a guy at welterweight doing
That but I feel it heavyweights because one punch is so much the difference and you got a guy in G who’s like 6’4 270 who hits like a Mac Truck I feel like the wiggle room there is very short in weight class boxing you don’t wind up
With vast distortions in size and body type the way you do in heavyweight boxing okay in Gano and fury in terms of weight there may not be all that much difference but they are different bodies different styles different backgrounds different attitudes coming in Fury he can point to some rough times perhaps in
His youth but he never worked on a sand mine you he never had to live on the streets of Paris he never had to go through the kinds of personal experiences that enanu brought into the ring as motivation I remember the first night I saw Manny Pacquiao you bring him
Up and Manny Pacquiao was a throwin opponent uh kind of an afterthought against the great Leola Leed Waba and both Larry Merchant and I were convinced that ledwaba as as immaculately uh schooled as he was with the talent he showed had to be the best 122lb fighter in the world and Pacquiao
Threw him away like a used rag so the bottom line is uh it can happen in weight class boxing but it can happen even more easily in the heavyweight Division and if you fail to train properly good luck to you uh anything can happen in a heavyweight fight uh Jim
I have a question we talk about these crossover fights and everyone thinks of MMA and boxing but there used to be a time and I remember this I think it was in 1977 actually took place at Mile High Stadium L Alo took on Muhammad Ali and
Actually did not do that bad to be honest I was kind of impressed Alo actually had a Golden Glove career I never saw that fight I didn’t I didn’t realize that but was it a Tyson Fury like Ali probably didn’t train and take him lightly yeah it was an exhibition
Jim what do you remember about that particular event well of course I was uh a loving and adoring Ali van uh who never wanted to see Ali in Jeopardy against somebody like that it was one thing for him to have difficulty with a foreman or Holmes but Lyall Aledo forget
It so of course I naturally assume that this was one of the knights one of the um six- week periods in his life when Ali paid no attention whatsoever to the notion that there would be any competition in this ignored it completely and gave Aledo uh unwittingly the opportunity to
Show Jo Ali that he Alo was a better athlete than Ali thought he was Ali didn’t watch football games he wasn’t interested in you know what did you do in the NFL he wasn’t interested in what have you done in practice in terms of balance and and uh jumping and stuff
Like that he didn’t believe in that stuff he figured he would go in and he would dust up Alo as easily as any other inexperienced nonbox and it didn’t turn out to be the case that kind of thing has happened a few times
Uh and and not just to ali uh but at the end of the day enanu was clearly way way better than Fury expected him to be Jim going right back to Fury one last time they are supposed to fight him and usk cross your fingers May 18th okay did the
Result of the last fight regardless of the decision but the way it played out does it give you pause or does it make you concerned that hm are we sure he beats the much smaller man in Alexander usyk well uh you know Anthony Josh was a
Lot larger than usyk too and uh can we agree that Joshua and fury are still constantly engaged in a proxy war all right they fight other guys and then we get to compare their performances against other guys as we continue to await the possibility that somewhere in
Some distant Universe a match is going to be made between Fury uh and uh and Joshua uh and that may never take place but the motivation that now exists for Joshua as the result of what happened between inano and fury uh is a gift to to Joshua whatever Joshua’s got left
Whatever whatever he can do to uh beat Francis inano he he’s working hard on it because he wants to walk out of that ring having people say oh look Fury couldn’t handle this guy couldn’t couldn’t even beat him couldn’t knock him out May want may have won a decision
But I’m not 100% certain and Joshua cleaned his pump that that’s what AJ wants and AJ’s bound to be working extra hard to try to bring that about I think we’re gonna see a very well-prepared AJ we’re gonna see an AJ who’s been very active and listen if enanu can look
Impressive there then hey yeah maybe we’re we’re on to something right then the proxy war continues if the fur you know Fury is getting ready to Fus it knowing that we’re all going to be making the same comparison usyk outboxed Joshua twice and now if Fury can go in
And outbox usyk one up uh that’s what they’re constantly aiming toward no you’re right and by the way I think we will see a very different well-prepared Fury this time against ank but that doesn’t necessarily mean that we’ll see a Victorious Fury either because that’s a very intriguing I’m more intrigued in
That fight now based on the result of when or the way it played out of the fight with in ganu and him and that’s the beauty of the event AJ couldn’t have gotten a bigger gift than what happened between enanu and fury it sets him up for an icatching performance if he can
Produce it keep this in mind when I’ve seen Fury struggle and I was there when he fought utto Wallin smaller Southpaw Steve Cunningham career cruiserweight dumped him on his I’m just telling you has not struggled against somebody like enanu who’s as big as he is and doesn’t have the classical boxing training
That’s exactly right so AJ’s The Logical favorite logical yes but not but not the guaranteed winner that there’s a difference Jim look at the boxing landscape in 2024 HBO pulled the plug on boxing you were there 2018 several months ago Showtime shuttered its boxing operations if I
Would have told you seven eight years ago hey Jim neither of you guys is going to be involved in boxing either Network what would you have told me I wouldn’t have known I wouldn’t have understood I still to this day don’t understand why HBO isn’t doing boxing I don’t
Understand why Showtime is dumping out I don’t get it somebody would have to show me numbers and uh public opinion surveys and things to try to show me why this is happening I you know I have a particular warped perception I’ve been a boxing fan all my life I love watching boxing I
Don’t understand uh why all this is is taking place I thought Amazon was going to be uh producing a high-end very meaningful boxing telecast with high-profile fights and I haven’t seen a single word about it in in recent weeks so um your guest is as good as mine
Steve and yours too Mario I don’t know it is bizarre and I don’t know why either especially when we’re littered with so many different channels and live content is King and this boxing is essentially a movie and people are willing to pay and people are willing to
Pay for each exposure and and all you have to do is achieve a multiple where you have enough people buying the hookup to get you to a level of profit and it it can’t be all that huge I mean it’s what’s the cost you’re going in and
Shoot a boxing match it’s not the Super Bowl so I I really don’t understand the resistance of these entities who have walked away from boxing at a moment when it’s verging more and more and more toward the Pay-Per-View pay-per event type one exposure at a time economic
Formula which is very friendly to them you’re exactly right well Hollywood has always been uh a city of copycats so if Amazon is able to pull the trigger and they have somewhat success then you’ll see a lot of streamers all of a sudden I hope they hire Steve Kim and Mario Lopez
To call the fights I would gig we’ll be the studio host Jim you that that’s a question I think a lot of people want us to ask you Jim let’s make this clear you still want to call fights don’t you ringside nobody nobody has asked me to
Call a fight since December 8 2018 so why would I by what logic would I think to myself oh that’s gonna happen tomorrow I don’t uh I’m not saying oh I’ve given up it’s never going to happen again it’s just not worth thinking about and I did spend a lot of time thinking
About it after December 8 2018 because at that point I had spent 31 years of my life calling fights uh and of course I thought that I was going to be uh broke unable to buy dinner etc etc that didn’t turn to the case thank heaven um but at
The end of the day um there’s a lot here that I don’t understand and that’s just one element how did March 8th come about how did what the March 8th event come about for you you mean pv.com correct yeah pv.com came about for me because Lance pugm was working with them doing
Pb.com I believe he was doing the fights alone Lance pugmire is a wonderful guy and a really great friend and uh we had a discussion about real estate and during the real estate discussion he said hey what would you consider doing live chat on a boxing match and I said
Why not I can’t think of any reason why I wouldn’t want to do that and particularly when he told me the first one he was thinking about was a Canelo Alvarez fight last time I looked Canelo Alvarez was the biggest dollar Ford dooll attraction in boxing may still be
Uh but at the end of the day that was how it came about and I wasn’t looking for anything wasn’t asking for anything as I’ve said to a lot of people in teaching my course here at the University of North Carolina Communications 490 evolution of Storytelling in American electronic news
Media one of the subjects I constantly covered was how transitions in engineering business Personnel Etc lead to changes in storytelling this is a new storytelling medium this is something that did not exist before they started it where you text a comment about the fight and the viewer can text you back
And answer it and somebody else is working with you and you’re sharing opinions and it’s all in text rather than in voice it’s a new medium and that’s exactly the kind of thing I was teaching my students about in class so it’s you know as far as I’m concerned it
In my world it’s an accident but it’s also a logical event in the progression of the technological interface between boxing and the various transmission systems which can tell the story we are joined here by Jim Lampley who this particular Friday will be working with Kevin ioli formerly of Yahoo sports on
Pv.com in addition to Anthony Joshua Francis andano the undercard includes for the WBC featherweight title Ray Vargas taking on Nick Wrecking Ball and heavyweight action jalay Jen the Big Bang takes on Joseph Parker that’s gonna be I haven’t seen Jang I mean I at least I don’t think I’ve seen Jang I might
Have seen him at the Olympics several years ago but uh but I’m very excited to see uh who and what Jiang is because a Chinese heavyweight champion that would open up a whole new economic Frontier yes it would and he looks to be the real deal and he’s looked impressive in his
Last couple of outings I’m EXA I’m excited to see him too well that’s a thunderous left hand he’s obliterating people so it’s a very interesting possibility I’m just curious not to digress too much because um I was just thinking when you were saying you’re teaching these courses man I would love
To take a course from you do these kids because they’re young do they come up to you at all Jim and say they saw you on HBO or are they too young do they have they come up to you a lot and mentioned maybe one out of 20 maybe one out of 30
Really not many of them at all there’s a long time between December 8 2018 when I quit calling boxing matches on HBO and uh spring of 2020 when I first started teaching uh at the University of North Carolina and remember the the title of the course is American electronic news
Media it’s about news media storytelling because I wanted to talk about something significant in the classroom wanted to talk about something that has political import social import etc etc so that’s that’s uh why the course was about news media and I would have 40 students in my
Classroom maybe two or three of whom had ever seen me on the air that’s I love that I would never skip classs just so you know but no I don’t think I would either but Jim does that speak to the fact it’s not just an wait a minute were
You an apple polisher on Saved by the Bell uh uh you never miss a class on Save By the Bell look I try to be sincere look what happens I got my balls broke you know I used to call football games with Bob gool gool was my expert commentator on
NBC football was he really walk through we’d walk through airports and you know people would shout out save by the belt stay by the belt some of them didn’t even know he was a football player that was the College Years thought by the way North Carolina has a decent little
Wrestling team there because North Carolina has a decent wrestling team and my wife Deborah is an overwhelmingly devoted wrestling fan she was she was the manager of the men’s Varsity wrestling team at her little College in Western Massachusetts oh look so when we came we were here for three days in
December of 2019 we were walking past Wilson Library the big undergraduate Library there was a little cardboard placard that had been stuck into the ground uh on a wire said Friday night UNCC versus Princeton wrestling she said we’re going to that yeah we are going to
This day she does not miss a home wrestling date I’ll never forget I called the NCA Wrestling Championships a couple times I knew oh wow but I was thinking okay what what am I going to learn about wrestling from Deborah and we go to that first dual meet you North
Carolina versus Princeton the first match is taking place we’re about five six minutes into and I’m I’m really wondering you know is she’s devoted as she says she is she really a fan and we’re we’re somewhere in the second period and suddenly she reaches over she
Grabs my knee with a fierce grip and she says we’ve got the riding time Point hey she knows her stuff she knows her St who she says she is know who m is absolutely as a matter of fact I have um a meeting with him because he does this certain
Show as as far as a certain documentary in a show we’re going to be talking about my so my boys real quick are are um wrestlers are wrestlers and they’re doing really well so they asked us to come visit over there and I said I think
That’s where Jim Lampley is and so a buddy of his that for any who don’t know Kenny Mandi is an Olympic gold medalist and was Superstar at Oklahoma State and uh uh when we went into that first UNC versus Princeton I learned that Kenny Mundy was an assistant coach here uh at
That time and he’s since gone on to one of those fancy high schools for only athletes uh in Ohio but I miss him a lot wonderful guy yeah they do more than basketball over there at the Chapel Hill they do uh Jim I cannot help and when
You came on the first thing that caught my eyes because I have a great wall of credentials at my office and they’re hung up on like a loop you have yours plastered on the wall the coolest wall ever I love that talk does that bring back memories as you just look
Back there are 14 Olympics credentials there uh there there’s a somewhere there there’s a uh Tennessee versus UCLA uh September 7 1974 the first time anybody ever stood on the sidelines of a college football game with a camera and a microphone because as you probably know I was the very first uh sideline
Reporter um there are various crazy wide worlds on there like the wrist Wrestling Championships and The Lumberjacks and all the things I had to do to earn my way up the ladder on the way up they’re all represented uh back here they’re about uh four or five Indianapolis 500
Credentials uh so this is you know if somebody broke into my house don’t tell anybody you’re on the west coast but if somebody broke into my house and they were looking around what is valuable this is it how do you if God forbid you move what
Happens there with the wall you take the wall this was problem this this used to be on the wall in delmare in Southern California and there are take the wall two other smaller versions and we wanted to put this upstairs here on the third floor of my four-story farmhouse in the office but
It’s too big so we’re we’re in the basement which was the only place with a wall larger enough to accommodate the uh credential montage is there one particular credential that stands out to you is there one particular credential that stands out to me yeah with Beijing
Olympics probably uh they were my U last Olympics of of 14 uh and work with really close friends at NBC at that point that’s one uh um Tennessee versus UCLA September 7 1974 the first time I ever worked for a television network after having been
Chosen out of a talent hunt uh with 432 candidates and I was the the person that they chose to put on the air um there there are many of them that have uh real meaning and resonance for me but for me you know not not for everybody else
Because these are my credentials uh Mario it’s the worst feeling when you cover an event and you get your credential you give them your ID and they hand you a wristband you’re like the biggest Buzz it’s almost like you’re not there because I exactly they’re great that is a total
Let down a a wristband is a come you you’re you’re kidding you you’re not even selling your event real operation that’s why that’s why Olympics credentials are so great they’re big they’re laminated they’ve got your picture on them uh they have some decoration that shows you the culture of
Where you are so they’re fun yeah I was at the 2000 Olympic Summer Olympics I have Olympic pins on mine that’s what I’d never get rid of and you know sometimes I’ll be in my office now they face me the the the great little Orange Bowl of East LA and sometimes when I’m
Doing anything I’ll just look at the credentials and I’ll I’ll know exactly where I was or how I felt like Memories just come pouring through now you’ll lose yourself for a couple of minutes Jim I have one more boxing question for you in your view has in way and Crawford
Have those two clearly separated themselves from the pack in your view when it comes to Elite Fighters I thought I thought they had um a few months ago but you know inactivity or uh iffy performances rob you of a lot in a short period of time I think that um a
Lot of people have now forgotten the way in a way looked against Spence uh way Crawford looked against B excuse me a lot of people have forgotten that now uh any a way has not fought to my knowledge in the United States in uh the last four
Or five fights he matured to the level in Japan where he could uh capitalize economically fighting there and uh and so I think that um they have left the way open for a new star and I believe that new star if he is treated properly by promoters and television uh David
Benavites has a chance to become the biggest boxing star in quite sometime and potentially the biggest economic attraction in the history of the sport now that’s a thing that ought to occasion you following up why would you say David Benitas should be the biggest economic attraction in
His answer to that right he’s 168 pound fighter but when he was 13 or 14 years old he weighed 235 and he engaged in a personal program one went on a crusade to lose 880 lbs so that he could pursue the possibility of becoming a competitive athlete what if
He were able to engage in another crusade to put the 70 or 80 pounds back on in an intelligent and effective way and become with his massive punting power the first great Mexican American Heavyweight Championship Contender you tell me Mario is there a bigger star in the world in terms of Economic and
Societal impact than the first Mexican American Heavyweight Championship Contender I don’t think so I I think he has Horizons in front of him which are incomparable if he wants to pursue them that’s a movie I’d like to see and listen I think he’s incredibly talented
And he seems to be very grounded now and focused and with his family and anchored my only concern is he’s going up to 175 now with a couple of talented individuals in Archer Bev and Demitri bival if he should and then now they are getting a little bit older if he should
Prove successful detonate them explode them blow them up like what he did to Andre right if but that’s an that’s that’s different though these guys are some heavy hand or at least better as a heavy-handed guy if he’s able to do that then I think it’s a strong possibility
That the sky’s the limit well here I thought he had just moved up to light heavyweight Jims has him going up all the way to heavyweight Jim before we wrap well this is because it’s sort of a dream of mine I developed two different drama series projects at
HBO which made it to relatively late stages of consideration but I never managed to get the pilot on the air and they were both about a Mexican American heavyweight Contender both I want to make this subject I’ve been pushing for a long time it’s been a manifest for the
Record we have not forgotten about Chris arola and Andy Ruiz but that’s a different time different place now Jim he said great great yes he said great I said great that’s exactly right I said great there’s a difference all right so we’ll leave you with this is it clear to
You Canelo Alvarez is whatever word you want to use uh being judicious and Sid stepping David benovitz sure looks that way do I mean that what could be more obvious about what the audience wants and and if you don’t give the a audience what they want
Then they they will begin to back away from you and for whatever reason Canelo is not responding to the obvious and the obvious is that the audience wants Canelo versus benitz maybe David Morell will fill the bill uh but he doesn’t seem all that interested in that either
Uh you know Jamal Charlo sorry that’s not what the audience wants absolutely forgive me Jamal yeah you know I will Echo those thoughts all right so again this Friday beginning at 10:00 a.m. Pacific 1 p.m. eastern time and again Mario Main Event around 300 p.m. approximate Pacific Time 6 PM Eastern

Bid. Mar I want to say this about Jim Lampley uh I don’t know how old he is but he is still Sharp As a Razor his recall you what just saying that he hasn’t lost a mile off that fast ball sharp as a damn tack has uh a ton of
Energy still and a passion for the sport which I love by the way not just boxing he’s great at all of them as he’ll tell you himself I’m stunned that a network has not dialed him up and they might be intimidated I thought about that they
Might be why not cuz I think he’s the kind of guy that would like to do it just to be there and to be so I just think they probably oh we can’t afford him or oh he’s he’s probably He he’ll never say yes I honestly think that’s
The case by the way Mario and talking about his Great Wall of credentials his version of it there’s nothing more of a buzz kill you come to an event you go up to the credential line and then you give your driver you said that while we’re
Talking on Kim but I’m just telling you that I’ve actually gone to aent and it feels like she’s really upset about the um I know I hate that because I can’t hold you made that clear twice now I can’t made that clear wristband on the wall I know you told me
Twice it it’s ridiculous but anyway uh moving on review preview fight review uh February 24th this was the week that we missed Tokyo Japan uh all I could say is monai to junto nakat he’s now a three Division World Champion stopping Alexander Santiago in six and the brother of the
Monster Tac Inu takes care of gern on kahos and nine to defend his WBA bantamweight title and also Kos Tanaka defends the WBO super flyweight Crown against Christian Baka sagur Mario junon nakatani is now starting to creep up into some pound-for-pound list he’s only 26 years old 27-0 20 Knockouts as I’ve
Said Rudy Hernandez said Steve this kid has a high ceiling here’s what’s scary Rudy Hernandez actually says the best we’re going to see of this guy is at 22 and 26 is it too soon to start kind of cooking up on the crockpot a fight all Japanese battle between him and inway
Well that’s what I was just thinking uh there’s so many fights though that can still be made prior to that but you don’t want them to outgrow each other but uh yeah that that could be uh that could be one for the ages especially for
The Land of the Rising Sun junto is a absolute blade I mean he’s tall he’s lanky he’s kind of built like a like a neon version of the praying mantis and he can beat you from the outside with range then he chops you up inside with a
Wide variety of hooks and uppercuts he’s also very very slick in his own way and his power is growing keep this in mind he’s only 26 if you look at his frame the one thing about in a way most of his body is in his legs he’s got a really good like
Lower part of his body he did not Skip Leg Day junto has a frame that’s very large with the extended torso and the way he throws punches it’s almost like a hatchet and I’ve seen him in the gym almost grow in front of my eyes in California he went he’s gone to all
Sorts of different gyms and Rudy says Steve we’re we’re going to take on anybody how’s his English non-existent still to be honest with you you know here’s the funny thing that here’s the thing you don’t need to know when you don’t need to know he speaks the
Language of boxing it’s funny him and Rudy actually oh that’s why I was asking well they speak the language of boxing yeah and it is such a cultural thing though when you see a Japanese fighter come to America I I know every single time that Juno’s supposed to be at the
Gym let’s say it’s always usually 9:30 you what time he gets there every time is 9: love that I mean that that is the Japanese way I remember one time he went to Panda’s gym on 8th Street or in near downtown LA he was only 15 minutes early
Came at 9:15 and Rudy joke with them junto you’re actually late in being early you ought to be ashamed of yourself so that is a different type of mindset also as for Tuma inaway you know this ain’t Fredo it ain’t Fredo Corleone he’s actually pretty good and when I
Look at the brother combinations in the history of boxing I’m not saying he’s like the klitschkos I’m not saying he’s like the Mayweather fighting family the Marquez Brothers two guys who are in the Hall of Fame not sure that’s going to happen but Tuma inway from the time that
He lost to nordine obale has come a long way now with that being said I don’t know if it’s possible culturally if they’re ever going to put in nakatani with inway there’s a lot of politics there yeah they that’s unfortunate yeah but you know Japanese Fighters do fight
Each other because that could be the Morales Barrera of the Japan yes and if nakatani should beat inaway what do they say about being My Brother’s Keeper now all of a sudden you have a natural precursor to a showdown but tum unay does not have the power but
Here’s the problem nobody has the power of the monster um but he’s a very good boxer he’s very very sturdy and solid and he took care of a former world champion that made about six or seven defenses this was this was a very very good entertaining card early Saturday
Morning on February 24th and Mario later that night uh from Orlando Florida from the Caribbean Royale on the Zone Edgar branga finally scores another knockout as first one in six fights uh beating up pat patty MCC in six but Mario look he needed this it was a good step but like
We got to be consistent like Charlo I don’t need to see him in with Canelo I just don’t think he has really earned that fight he looked better than I’ve seen him in the past a little more patient he um looked more composed he threw crisper combinations
And he was able to take his opponent out uh in in pretty impressive fashion do I think it was worth worthy of a shot at Canelo no and do I think it was worthy maybe of a shot with mongia yes however like I mentioned earlier it looks like
Mongia Canelo might be happening like I said so I think that is a much more entertaining fight for both Canelo and mongia whether it was Bango or whether it was Charlo so I’m happy about that but it looks like at least at the moment maybe branga is back on track yeah we’ll
We’ll get to that a little bit later and also this past Saturday Mario we were kind of keeping of this on the laptop from Puerto Rico on the Zone Jake Paul and Amanda s co-headlined to show except only one of them made Jake Paul beat up
A guy that he’s supposed to now now I’ve seen it all Amanda Serrano was the main event that’s why they sold all the tickets in Viva Puerto R WEA and all of a sudden it’s like uh no it’s not going to happen she got something in her eye
From but but something in her eye while she was doing her hair right so it wasn’t even like from training or anything so it’s not PR it’s not Aquanet I I’ve never heard of that here’s the other thing though I don’t want to be alliv Stone here but if you got
Something in your eye a day or two before right then the commission’s like Ah that’s not going to happen couldn’t you have made don’t you think that they held back on the announcement because the press release came like immediately so they obviously they had that plan so
I give nvp you want to ruin the tickets well no no they’re giving full refunds I give them credit oh really they are but here’s the thing you’ve been to a lot of events even when you go to an event for free don’t still pay for parking oh yeah
Don’t you buy some popcorn hot dogs cocacola there’s a lot of expenses a lot of expenses I’m just thinking to myself huh if you’re Puerto Rican you don’t care about Jake Paul you want to see Amanda and all of a sudden Amanda comes out with these glasses or hairs the shov
And I’m like oh my God no I know that was a little sad yeah little little sad it’s a little shady to be honest with you because here’s the problem if you would have said on Friday afternoon no WEA no WEA there’s going to be no no one
Would have shown up yeah and that would have been a bad look for them yeah but you’re giving away you’re giving back the money but if I am a guy that took my family of four and I spent a couple hundred dollar no it’s not a good look
And I’d be upset let me ask you a question since you bring up your boy Jake Paul does he continue on this streak of fighting these Fighters that of this level that we really don’t know about or does he does he actually take a step up in competition
And it gets serious is is the because I used to think it was the kids that were tuning in or who’s tuning in who’s watching is is The Jig up what’s the ceiling here I I’m with you because I’d I’d really like to know if it wasn’t for
Amando Serrano in Puerto Rico how many tickets could you sell for the next Ryan Borland and there is that old saying if it ain’t broke don’t fix it but here’s the issue has he run out of athletes like Nate Robinson has he run out of MMA guys
That no longer care that are retired yeah right that really don’t want to fight that they’ll take a face plant they’re like hey thanks for the check I don’t know look can he beat novices yes he’s actually gotten better but we cannot conflate that with thinking well
He’s actually really good he’s okay I mean he’d beat me up I’m not trying to get in there I can’t fight out of a wet paper bag but Jake give me a call if you make enough offer I might actually take but I’m just saying you’re right about that
Like how many tickets can you sell um in terms of building it up as a quote unquote real boxing match that’s the question what’s the end game what’s the ceiling here I mean I know he’s calling out s Canelo being but he’s a troll with that so what’s the real realistic plan
Here that’s I was just curious I don’t know if there is one that’s what I’m saying fly by the seat our pants kind can I be honest and if I am an Amanda Serrano fan I feel a little bit I don’t want to say ripped off cuz we’re giving
You back the refund for the tickets but I would actually hesitate I’d be like what are we doing here right what is the plan yeah that’s what I’m saying so we’ll see what happens and I’m just glad it’s their problem and not mine news and notes moving on to news
And notes we talked about this Mario last week it looked like Canelo Al was done with the PBC it been a divorce he’s going to go to matchroom he’s going to fight haime mongia on May 4th in Viva Las Vegas well it looks like he might be
Back with the PBC The Empire Strikes Back I don’t know what’s going on all I know is this we are now less than two months away from May 4th can can we announce something here let’s get going well I still think that H Moon Gia is
Going to be that opponent at the end of the day unless something comes out of out of the uh Woodworks and uh it I think it’s his to lose who knows what may happen but if I had to put money if I was a betting man I I think that’s uh that’s probably
The fight that’s going to uh uh be made um Canal is at the point of his career where it it it’s sort of look he’s made enough money it doesn’t really matter necessarily to him I think he’s cemented his legacy he’s going to be a future
Hall of Famer he’s made a ton of do so it’s whatever’s convenient to him I don’t think he needs to yeah we to see with benitz but he doesn’t need to why why face that okay let me push back on that if I’m a fan though I’m not here
Just to fund your 401K retirement I know I agree I was just coming from a realistic place I agree would I I want to see that of course that’s a fight everybody wants to see and that’s fight I want see of course of course but what
I’m say but now being real if you’re Canelo like what do I want that drama right now what do I want what do I want that action headache right now for look I don’t understand why the PBC by the way I don’t interrupt you again I’m sorry I don’t think benas comes back
Down to 68 by the way okay after 75 I’ve actually brought that up I don’t think he does look it’s happened but it’s rare it’s rare and when it happens it doesn’t work out well usually usually all I’m going to say is this if you are going to
Sign Canelo as a network or a promoter to a multi-fight deal if that name David Ben aidz as Mike Tyson would say the Mexican MAA is not on that list I’m not sure that’s a great deal for your subscribers or for you as a company mhm like I want fights you
Know what I hated oh Sergio Martinez is too old to fight Golovkin he’s the middleweight champion it is what it is if you wear the crown I want to see you knocked off That’s the basis of the game that’s the whole point of the game that’s I check that’s what they do at
UFC you always see number one fight number two what did we see this last week number seven fight number eight number five fight number six we don’t see that unfor we’ll get into that a little bit later Mari I have a question if you are Joe boxing fan and we’re all
About the fans we love the fans all racist colors Creed religions and you are buying a flight to New York to watch Devin Haney Ryan Garcia at the barklay Center in Brooklyn New York when you buy your flight on Expedia or travel velocity would it be a good idea to get
That travel flight insurance that you usually don’t get I’m worried so when I was uh when I was uh talking to Oscar let me rewind yeah just rewind let me rewind let’s do that yeah so he asked me to be part of the press conference
Here in LA and to host it I’m like yeah man that that’s fun let’s do it right at the Avalon in Hollywood and we’re I think we’re supposed to kick off at like 2 o’l something like that um and Eric Gomez president kept getting calls from both
Garcia’s camp and Deon he Camp is he there yet is he here that neither guy wanted to show up until the other guy got there so that’s the reverse of you hang up no you hang up no exactly is he there yet was he there there no nobody
Wanted to show up first well Devon didn’t want to show up because he did not like some of the stuff going on with Ryan not taking this fight seriously I don’t blame him but he knew that he was there in the vicinity at the at the W
Hotel to be specific which was just a block down but he didn’t want to show up until he showed up and then Ryan didn’t want to show up until he showed up it was some silly high school [ __ ] oh god dude an hour goes by with that and I’m
There kicking it an hour an hour and a half goes by until finally they said okay Ryan’s on the horse he’s on the way I said what he’s on the horse and they’re like yeah so we see biscuit so he’s on a horse coming from and he goes
Spectacular bid I go I go to Oscar hey bro does this fool know how to ride a horse what if the cuz there was a lot of people outside what if the people storm the like the horse he gets spooked and he bucks his ass off and there goes your
Promotion he’s like oh [ __ ] I don’t know if he knows how to ride horse so we told him have the lady walk him with the thing so like you know how they walk the ponies with the lady was walking him I’m like oh my God fortunately the horse did not kick him
Off so he comes in the horse then Haney comes so they’re able to come they both get there within 30 seconds of each other right both show up with hu huge entes Ryan’s Entourage had like cir do Sol performers and stuff so they said okay Mario I’ll get in your spot
Um on the deis there dude the the the circus the girls were cartwheeling hitting the cardboard thing one almost wiped out I’m like looking at Oscar we’re busting up we’re having like our our side conversations on the back what the [ __ ] what is going on right here so
All the shenanigans then he comes on and then Haney comes with their thing and then all the craziness starts with all your tupe and you with the nappy hair and this I’m like oh my gosh I’m looking an Oscar and I’m going what is going on
And I’m trying to add a little bit of decorum to try to keep moving I try to keep it moving so I understand these things get excited they keep it moving and then they finally had and after heated back and forth they finally had the face off and then Ryan was very
Upset about that face off and storm down Haney was pretty um composed through the whole thing he looked big by the way he looked big for that weight class um and then everybody went went their separate ways they didn’t stick around really for the Press afterwards
But then after that so I was like whoa and that was trending everywhere and by the way my neck was injured that’s why people thought I was having an issue back there we’ll get to that too so then the next day bro I thought I was seeing a Britney Spears meltdown on
Social media with all the stuff going on it was like Kanye Antonio Brown and Britney all rolled into one with all the shenanigans and we want to make this clear with Ryan not Devin yes yes with all the shenanigans on social media I’m like whoa I said what is going on here
So I said is this kid is this kid trolling is this for real then you saw the ex-wife say some stuff and I’m like this is like Days of Our Lives all of a sudden so I’m talking to to Oscar and he said no man he said he’s good he said
He’s trolling and it’s working he’s trending everywhere he’s training and plans to fight you know so he’s also got a little drama is dealing with but he’s trying he’s he plans to fight I said okay okay I got to tell you that’s a lot to to have on your plate right there
Either the kid’s a marketing genius or he’s going through something but get the insurance that is a lot to uh that’s a lot to to kind of have on your plate when you have a daunting task ahead of you all right so I have a question I’m
Going to be the bad guy here well I’m just relaying information I I’m with you so didn’t Ryan Garcia say that he had a mental issue couple of years ago and he pulled out of fight right correct I’d like to think we were probably the most
Honest show about that and we got herang by members of his team and his family you got spammed I got a couple of text messages so and doesn’t his family and I’ve been tagged on these posts till I struck back don’t they say that we are
We are so proud that Ryan is a mental health Advocate right he says that yes or no he’s man of God right definitely says that Hallelujah so and doesn’t so obviously we we’d like to think that mental health is a real serious issue right sure okay so if you’re Ryan
Garcia and you say you’ve had mental health issues you’re a mental health Advocate do you believe it is proper do you believe it is right to quote unquote for the lack of a better term act crazy and to put on this show to troll as everyone is saying that that kind of
Like enables this Behavior to do this in the name of promoting a fight do we take mental health seriously or is it just a marketing tool when it’s convenient that’s all I want to ask well you’re you’re looking at it from a very honest well honest blunt and
Cynical view I was going to say um intelligent P perspective if you want to look at all the the layers but look we’re dealing with young guys here right in their 20s I don’t know if they Factor all that in okay this generation specifically his yes that’s I don’t know
If that’s just the way they sort of roll these days to be fair are they all like that how many other guys are doing this dude he I think has this YouTuber um social media mentality where a lot of them do do this I’m not making excuses I’m just saying this is common
Place for a lot of these young guys in this generation in this space you know I is he crying wolf is he is this going to catch up with him later is it working are we going to see huge pay-per-view numbers um All That Remains to be seen I
Will say there is a lot of Buzz and interest for this fight now whether it’s going to come across whether it’s going to go off and if it does people will be tuning in they will at the end of the day though you have to be prepared to
Fight yes and I I want to make this clear we are taping this on March 4th and it’s right around 5:30 as of right now the fight is still on well he left a uh he dropped a video this morning Kim yes right saying essentially that he was
Kidnapped I can’t get a hold of my account I’m locked out and meanwhile I’m like well how’d you get on your Twitter account I’m like my God was he Harry Houdini he’s been tweeting all day yeah he’s been tweeting all day and and like he himself said as of right now the
Fight’s on okay so here’s the other thing look if if I was his his father his trainer his adviser I would say look we’re putting this phone away we’re putting this phone away we’re not going to touch it he can’t function without it well that’s the thing I think a lot of
Those kids can’t uh um in that uh that generation but we would put it away we are going to Dallas we are focusing she needs that more than oxygen really you’re going to take away Ryan Garcia’s during Camp I am during Camp you got to you’re going up against Devon
Hayes that’s half his living that is half his living it can resume in six weeks or however far however far we are from theight two months far you must hate this kid come on this kid has is here’s the other thing listen I want for
The sport this event to go on and for it to be a success it’s better for all of us right in my view there has already been internal discussions about do we need to go on I think Golden Boys in a catch 22 if you continue on with this
Event you might be putting more good money into bad and you might take losses let’s say in two weeks after you’ve already spent more Market getting money more advertising the kid says I can’t do it okay here’s the problem if you go on with the event and Ryan gets absolutely
Shellacked you know what people going to say oh my God they didn’t care about his good health and they just exploited him but then you cash out you’re not worried about those people look who was on the deis was um Barbosa arold Barbosa he said he’s ready God forbid to come out
Now obviously been worked out he’s in the bullpen he’s in the bullpen good little fighter um not the event it would be that level but a good little fighter good little good little backup I look I Haney’s got to be feeling great regardless he’s got to be feeling really
Good because he seems sound focused more motivated yes he’s he’s the same guy every day I’ve said this to you three years ago on this show he’s the most stable consistent guy out of all of them okay here’s my question though um if you are Ryan Garcia and you
Like this is why I I was go in this direction you grew up around a lot of child actors you were one you came out relatively unscathed I don’t know what you went through what you mean relative what you mean relatively I don’t know why relatively [ __ ] well I don’t know
I’m hearing the stories about Meek Mill and I’m like I don’t know what’s going on in that industry Mill no but the hell Mario didn’t you meet kids I was unscathed fool okay you are completely unscathed you came out like uh like a Mercedes ben through a Car Wash like
Clean you had the armor all all of the turtle couple girls that have got upset other than that I didn’t say that no baby mamas no baby M that you know that’s clean as a whistle that is clean but didn’t you see some of your peers
Get caught up cuz I believe that Ryan Garcia is is a cautionary tale of what happens when of the intoxication of Fame social media and clout chasing where this fantasy world that you create and the delusion that you live in starts to become your reality right and women add
Women in that mix that makes it dangerous no but he’s dating he’s dating a nice wholesome only fans girl which is nice it’s nothing serious according to him although he did propose to her a couple days ago hey I hope it works out my guy’s got to be have a little more
Awareness gosh if he was my someone like I want to take my arm under and I’ve got want deal I’ve got a few kids why would you want to I if I were you I’d stay away no no no I’m not it’s not my place I’m just saying on the outside it’s like
I you wish I got like my man you got to listen to me right you got to listen to me you got to keep it straight you got to keep your head on stay focused kid don’t get distracted don’t let have you done that before though you’ve had those
Talks with him well no that was initially way back and he listened and then some other people got in his ear and I pulled back and whatever is history but look the problem is Kim you need to have the infrastructure there of a solid mom and dad and someone who’s
Going to kick your ass and keep you in check I you mean ones that don’t use you as the ATM okay I was blessed I was blessed with great parents that kept me in line I was scared of my dad they kept their jobs didn’t they basically yeah my
Dad worked for the city my there you go and so it was a Hu you know huge difference but I was like too scared to want to do anything for fear of consequences of the old dad would still beat you up right or whip your ass
Once in a while right yeah growing up all the time we talk that’s great me too oh my God so my mom by the way was the one that usually put my I had to really mess up to get my dad my point is I think that was key and I hated it
Growing up but then now I back abolutely absolutely so if you don’t have that and you just have Hangers On and people that are in your ear have an agenda and shit’s going to go ha right that’s why I’m honest it’s like do I really care I
Care as much I don’t want him to die I have no ill will towards him but I’m also realistic he’s not going to listen to me and it’s not not my job to be concerned my job is to cover boxing and I’ll just say this after this segment uh
Me and you will probably both be bombarded with emails text messages complaining about what we just said I don’t think we said anything inappropri and listen look it take Oscar for example who he wants to emulate right the talent level I think the disparity why did Oscar stay in straight line his
Old man was a [ __ ] hardcore dude his he was scared of his old man and his old man kept him straight in his mom until life until she passed but his old man stayed in Road you need someone especially when you’re growing up and especially when you’re a young man to
Guide you more than ever especially when you start getting success and Mario just to wrap this up today’s generation it’s not all of them but you’re right and I’ve spoken about this with some of my colleagues like Doug Fisher today’s generation is different they do they’re a little bit more sensitive like Jared
Anderson who led police they’re a lot more sensitive yeah a lot I don’t know if these kids are all of them no but I think this whole generation I don’t know if they’re sof soft or I was just abused because yeah I what’s going on I mean Jared Anderson LED police on a
High-speed chase on Saturday it’s a second runin with the law in about three months and then here’s the thing I’m like you know what I’m not going to judge you cuz we all live in Glass Houses okay we’ve all we’re all Sinners here but then he has the nerve to be
Upset at ESN as a news organization because they have the same announcers on their Bo boxing broadcast our good friend Joe tesor our great friend Tim Bradley and Mark kgal talking about it and I’m thinking to myself Jared don’t be upset at them for talking about your
Arrest here’s the thing maybe you should not be arrested right how about not breaking the law right and I hate to tell you this ESPN is still a news organization it would have been worst look for them if they would have ignored it of course dude come on and so there’s
A thing called accountability and Jared you have a lot of talent you’re the best pure American heavyweight I have seen at this level since Ric Big Daddy Bo I stand by that but the last year year or so I’m kind of thinking to myself I don’t know if this guy’s solid stable
And reliable right now he’s more the big problem than big baby final flurries you know what we’ve gone on let’s go to final flurries Mario you’re banged up you are playing hurt like a soldier you’re like Mexican Cal Ripken you are still showing up to the
Job what the hell did you do a couple weeks ago you ever got a pinch nerve no it doesn’t sound like a big deal it is incredibly big deal and you’re talking to a guy who’s torn his rotator cuff torn his achilles torn his biceps you’re like that Operation board game broken
His nose broken his hand I mean I’ve got none of that compares to the pinch nerve bro this is a Relentless pain that has not given up it’s just this whole thing is numb right here and I got it from doing Jiu-Jitsu with the guy about 100
Pound sa with me that’s foolish I’ll never do that again from the same guy that says weight classes matter no well they do but of course they matter but in grappling I I we were starting to stand up in the takedowns had we we been on
The ground I think it would have been a little bit different usually these guys know how to work with you this freaking big boy was it just just with just the weight too on Me on the neck and it was just so anyway I’ve got an epidural I’ve
Been on the shots I got to six hours get up take the medication I’ve been going through it it’s been like I’ve been suffering but I’m praying I’ve never done so much praying in my life I’m going to get through this I’m mentally kind of trying to wrap my head around it
I got another one scheduled on Thursday so hopefully I’ll be uh and once again you’re going to promise you’re going to stop sparring no I didn’t say I said was going to be I said I was going to be smarter about it I was going to be
Smarter about it you know what I mean smarter about it but I don’t want to uh dwell on that but yeah if I’m looking a little crazier if people were asking people thought I was like tweak tweaking on stage cuz I was going like this with
My neck they thought I was tweaking up there and I’m like no my neck just hurt when I was at the at the press conference right there yo how good was that Fried Chicken we had at my house that I ordered from honeybird finger licking good dude cuz I haven’t had I
Called Kim I said hey dude what do you want to eat you want to eat some cheese steak some Pizza I go you know what I’m craving Fried Chicken there’s a place around I said there’s a place around the block of my house that some bombass fried chicken how good was that Fried
Chicken the fried chicken and also the sides no the sides were good but but my jalapeno hot sauce your hot sauce J hot sauce that was really good wasn’t that good with the hot sauce Fri chicken’s good H that place there they’re baked beans wasn’t that good elite elite right
They’re mashed pot ilite okay also they’re klaw pound-for-pound quality what about the cookie and the cookie was nice and thick wasn’t it good I mean it really coated all the alcohol that I had that was you know what we finished a bottle of bourbon yeah I mean I’m just
If you come back and you say Steve every time you come over we’re getting the fried chicken oh you’re down for the fried chicken again I’d say thumbs up I would say thumbs up you wanted Pizza H but okay no no pizza butt cuz it’s ass I
Mean Courtney nearly I almost had me driving back home um ridiculous about that pizza the UFC card what’s the name of that heavyweight from Africa that has like that polish name uh Rosen strike man Rosie wow he’s the Larry Holmes up that big Russian guy that was good no he
Was piecing him up with that left hand he’s built like kind of like a circle and he doesn’t have any like muscle definition he’s big though but so he’s like the Larry Holmes of the UFC I was impressed by that guy that was a lot of
Fun we got a big event coming up this Saturday the rematch with om Ali and Cheeto Vera um that’s gonna headline a great card that’s going down in Miami so oh you have plans huh you can’t watch it this Saturday I can’t I have a family dinner dick I
Know go on Friday make it Friday I can’t they’re coming in from the East Coast all right but anyway we want to thank everyone that made this show possible look if you want to sponsor our show email us info@ boox bid. that’s info@ boox bid. iio we’d like to thank Jim

Mayweather the GOAT , only rival that beat him was a book 💪🏽📚
8:56 venado is going to be caught because his chin is wide open and up in the air exposed
My two favorite ho-toes
Come on stop saying fury might b the best ever. Non sense compared to iron mikes reign!!! Fury hasn't done enough
He didn’t turn his back, he has a bad knee that went out on him. Is really his knee, he wears a knee brace.
Ryan is drama queen. How pathetic a multimillionaire pulls a stunt like that. I don't think he wants to be a boxer anymore. Ryan's a snowflake. Devin always a professional.
Orale
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😂😂❗️💯Great Show
Best boxing podcast is back.
58:39 exactly 💯 the competition like ford vs otabek 1and 2 contenders etc..
Boxing fans are scared to death of ngannou and lampley is already making excuses. Ngannou was a rookie at mma as well
The commentary was horrendously biased against Kholmatov; the Uzbek won essentially every round and only ever appeared hurt when his knee went out – Ford at no point hurt him to the head or body, despite the crowd/commentary reaction. The stoppage was a disgrace: Kholmatov was knocked off balance and, knees giving out, stumbled face-first into the ropes; he did not 'turn his back'. A mandatory eight-count should have been administered, Kholmatov would have seen out the round, and become world champion – even if the scores were too close, and a split decision an outrage. This really was a textbook robbery of a foreign fighter. Americans are still sore about Chavez-Taylor, but this they're fine with?
Now why isn't anyone asking why this kid wasn't allowed to wear his knee brace? He earned the title shot wearing a brace, so why wasn't he permitted to compete in his title fight with it? Very disappointing to see zero journalists asking these questions when in the last two days they've delivered 50 interviews with Eddie Hearn and we haven't yet gotten a single quote from the Uzbek or his team. Steve's remark about Kholmatov not protesting is asinine: does the referee speak Uzbek? And what good would protest have done? The kid deserves an immediate rematch, the right to wear his knee brace, and the return bout needs to be on neutral ground. Hey, if Ford's so brave, defend the title in Uzbekistan!
1. Benavidez doesn’t have a great punch and 2. We’ve already had a Mexican American heavyweight champ
That is tru about David benavidez
I believe Jake is being embraced by the people in PR. This come from a hardcore box fan. At the beginning we saw him different, however he has been doing things for the Grow of the Sport in the island for the kids, he is the reason Taylor VS Serrano Happened and at this moment the Puertoricans see him as someone who is embracing our culture. El Gallo 🐓 it's a small animal that comes from a mix of quality genetics with the heart to fight without quitting even if he dies! That means a lot for our culture. Love the Show. ✌️☕️🥊🥊🇵🇷
Whats the deal wirh Lampley's half stutter?
Great episode! Nice to see you guys again!🥊
“Aaaaah..” 😂
No idea how this show has less than 6k subscriptions. Madness
Great show
Ryan is building an excuse, fishing for sympathy, and most important, drawing eyes to the event
My favourite boxing podcast!
nobody cares what Canelo does… we care about the belts and the manipulation. It is soooo bad for the sport!!!
Hey Kim Miami hurricanes suck cock!!!!!!
Steve Kim was really hammered 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Mario Steve I would like to challenge you both to a 3 knockdown tequila tasting at the studio .
Canelo straight up ducking Benavidez atm
Ryan García is somewhat reminiscent of tyson fury's meltdown.
Had the pleasure of doing a feature piece with Jim here in North Carolina! That credential wall is super impressive. Boxing, Olympics, NBA Finals, Super Bowls, etc, etc. He's got a movie poster wall too of a bunch of the movies he's been in,
Steve – “Ryan is dating a nice wholesome OF girl” 😂😂😂 that part had me dying!
Fury is still massively overrated just based on his story and ability to talk and sell.
Great show lads! 🥊🥊🙏🙏
Steve and Mario, you guys are better than this. The Uzbek was robbed.
Great Fight Raymond Ford did a Julio Chavez vs Meldrick Taylor !
Sorry Mario can’t make excuses for diva gracia no one will tune in after this fight we only here to see Ryan get stoped or highlight ko so he can retire
Jim Lampley is pure class amd to me, will always be the voice of boxing. Even play fighting as a kid, we heard Lampley in our heads and would try and mimic him.
14:09 Ngannou was COMPLETELY OUTCLASSED and TOTALLY DECIMATED in a very short amount of time.
