I’m going to give you three destructive things that amateures do with their driver that means it’s not going to get any better but luckily for you they are very easy to fix so let’s get stuck into the lesson but before we do let’s hit the Subscribe button down below let’s

Get better at the game together by fixing this big stick and our first destructive trait comes even before we swing the golf club because what I do see from a lot of amateurs is what happens when we get onto the tea here for me I’ve already placed my tea now

Straight in the middle of the two T’s that we have on the either side of the tea box and I’m just going to aim where this tea is pointing me and unfortunately that isn’t going to help your golf because sometimes the te’s actually don’t point where they should

Be going towards on The Fairway luckily for us here the 15th hole at Warrington is one of them that does Point down the middle but as you can probably see there is a huge tree in the middle of the Fairway about the Apex where a lot of people’s drivers would actually hit and

What I would see from here is that I put my ball now into the middle of the tea I align myself up with the middle of the tea I make a pretty good golf swing and unfortunately I clatter the tree here all because I just let this dictate

Where I was going to aim so what we need to do and what we need to understand is when we get onto any tee ground before we’ve even made our setup and we’ve made our swing just have a look at where the te points you is there any trouble that

It’s pointing towards I.E a pond a bunker a huge tree in the middle of the Fairway and if it is and you think my ball flight’s probably going to actually be impeded by one of those obstacles it’s time for us to maybe move around the tea I might want to actually come a

Little bit more to the left hand side here so now as I actually aim I’ve got a bit more of a channel I’ve still got one half of the Fairway to go out down this left hand side here so I could take my aim actually aim a little bit off and

Even if I didn’t quite get my driver there that was low that would have been straight into the tree if I would have been in the middle but thankfully because I actually looked at what was going on out there I’ve hit a poor drive and actually got a pretty

Good result so before you walk on to any te don’t make a great swing and actually come out with a bad result just because you didn’t look where this was aiming the next tip and oh do make sure you are staying around for the third cuz I

Guarantee you will have done it at some point in your golfing career or know a friend who does it repeatedly but what we need to think is that when we’ve got driver and we’re not quite getting it we’re losing distance and we’re getting a lot of curvature on the golf ball

Which I know a lot of amateurs are out there it’s because we’re getting glancing blows so we’re not getting a pure strike as we go through it we’re starting to see that we actually glance the golf ball but I’m going to fix that for you now so really simple what I want

You to try and do if you get to the driving range this would be ideal to do this but I want you to put a couple of canes that run back down behind your golf ball towards your target line and then out in front of your golf ball

Towards the target line leaving about two feet maybe a foot and a half on either side and what I see a lot of people doing the common miss here is that the golf club comes from outside of the behind line here it then cuts across from the inside of the line that’s in

Front of our golf ball and what I also do at the same point is leave that face looking somewhere down the line to try and get my ball going towards Target and that’s when I start to get that golf ball rubbing across the face impart the

Spin and don’t get a solid strike but what we want to try and do and what we’ve got to really understand is that the go swing is an arc it’s moving back around my body it moves in front of my body and it moves back

Around my body what I don’t want to try and do is keep it straight towards my target line the whole time which is where a lot of people get it wrong because as they move the club they think well if I can keep my club face looking

At the Target the whole time that then will lead me to hit straight shots it’s not the case what I want you to do though to try and fix it you don’t need a golf ball to start off with just have your TEEG in the middle of them and what

I want us to feel is that as we take the club away the club tracks and it just comes inside this line here and as it comes back down the only time it’s going to be straight as it’s just is passing through the space we’ve got between the

Two canes here so it would literally be straight for maybe about a foot of its Arc so I’d be taking it back and as I come down I feel it gets into the space between the cane and the TEEG and then I would make my impact and then I would

Let it get out in this space between the front cane and the teg but then it would track back inside what I’m not doing is letting the club get too far over in front this way of that one and then tracking really across it or vice versa

Coming too much from the inside and going too far outside what I want to do is just this little period of time here where the club is just working on its Arc passes into the open space carries on and then back inside as I’m going through so just start to have some

Practice Swings with these two visuals and what we’ll start to feel then is that we actually start to get more of a rounded golf swing we’ll get more of a true Arc as I would call it as opposed to something that is glancing and coming to Doo much from either inside or

Outside as I’m going through if we can do that we should start to see that we get the ball struck a little bit more from the middle and we’ll also get the face staying Square to our Ark and getting better shots from there so once you practiced it and felt good with it

Just have some little rehearsals it’s into the space it carries on in and then it tracks back inside and from here then we should start to see that we are getting better golf shots just a little bit right to left for me it’s actually a good strike and

I’ve not lost any distance from it so make sure that you aren’t the person who’s giving it that real glance in blow once you do that drill you’ll really start to resonate with that and feel that you’re actually getting a little bit more of a neutral path and getting a

Better strike on the face the third and final tip like I say so many people do this and we’re doing it the wrong way we get the driver out and we want to hit it far it’s fun to hit the driver far when you get that one that is nutted and it

Goes flying down the Fairway you think how good is that you feel great inside but unfortunately too many people are trying to generate speed in the wrong manner so when I do see the player who is trying to hit it too hard it’s coming from the wrong place we now know that we

Generate speed from the ground up but we also obviously have to use our arms but what we want to do is sink it all at the right time but the person who’s hitting it too hard you can tell the Tran to absolutely knock the skin off the golf

Ball nothing’s working in time and everything is generated from the wrong source and what it looks like is something is as we get up to the top everything we do is just push from the top half towards the golf ball so the club end UPS getting too steep it gets

Across the line here I get that glancing blow that we’ve just talked about and then I don’t even use my legs we want to try start from the ground up and then get those hands really letting the club whip through a lot of the time the big

Fault is that the club head is thrown quickly at the golf ball so what I want you to try and do just to try and generate a little bit more speed and get the feeling of actually letting the club release at the right time I want you to

Learn when to release the golf club because a lot of people release it too early here and then they never actually release it through the Impact Zone and actually let it do what it should be doing and here’s how you’re going to do it so real simple thing that I want you

To do I want you to just take your Club back to halfway and I want you to try and imagine now that you’re going to have to generate the speed by letting the club head pass your hands what a lot of people would do from here

Is well I hit it with my chest don’t I or my shoulders what we’ve got to realize is that we’re letting that club head actually whip by there and what you’ll start to notice as I do this even just by setting it there you might pick it up

On the microphone but there’s a bit of whoo but look at where my finishing position is here that club head is nearly all the way back behind my body as where a lot of people throw it early here from the top and then just carry on

Through and we see this sort of position the old chicken wing as we would hear it called we never see the club head actually getting back past the hands and back up behind the body because all we’ve done is throw it and then stall so

Real simple yes we want to use the legs to drive then we would let the spine kick in and then we would let the hands go but for you to just realize and get some feeling I want you to half swing to here and see how quickly you can get

That club head passing through once you’ve had a few and you’re starting to really feel that cled passing through those hands there and through the Impact Zone just let that go into a bigger swing and straight away even if you have a little pump here you’ll start to feel like

You’ve generated a lot of speed down at the bottom half of the Ark as opposed to feeling like you’ve thrown it up at the top and lost it already so once you’re done with that we know now that we’re set up correctly we’re going to feel a

Little bit more of a neutral Arc and I’m just going to let that club head pass at the right time to generate my speed and those are the three things that I want you to do to make sure that you are not getting the least out of your driver

Don’t make it the worst Club in your bag just try those three simple things and you will start to see that you get improvement with it guys thanks for watching make sure you hit the Subscribe button and I’ll see you in your next lesson

  1. So easy to put the speed into the swing early, and over the years I have learnt to break my wrist's later, but I still lapse back to what I would call, my "natural over the top swing". Your half swing drill is a timely reminder for me not to slip back into my old swing, I shall try this drill tomorrow before each drive on the tee as a "warm up" Cheers.

  2. Some pretty good info I struggle with consistency on my driver I'm gonna have to try that alignment stick drill
