Welcome back everyone we are here for the 2024 chess.com Invitational presented by disc craft disc golf pro tour stop number one halfway through this tournament and I’m very very excited my name is Chris German bringing you the action again subbing in for Andrew and Nathan but I have a different Nathan Nathan Johnson

Helping me call the shots how you doing not too bad excited to watch this back n round two we kind of had a bit of a rocky start from our card but that’s kind of expected here on Olympus the front nine definitely the trickier nine so we’ll see if these guys can bounce

Back here on the back let’s jump right into it with ho 10 of 341 ft Par 3 slightly downhill the entire way through a very tight tunnel and then you have this slope back back up the hill to the basket at the very end of the flight very demanding t-shot

And uh really good birdie if you’re able to pick it up yeah only two par 3es on the back nine this being one of them might be a tricky lie there for Ganon yeah you’re seeing some pretty common results here on this hole Mason just kind of coming up Circle Ed short

And then Kyle and Ganon both just pulling it a little bit to the right side you know it’s a very common result because most of the time this Gap shapes for that slight left to right drift as Gavin just a little high catches that ceiling um it shapes for a left to right

Drifting shot so you see a lot of players just overturn it a little bit and then just catch those late stuff on the right side makes for a tricky scramble depending on where you kick to scon up there right under the basket Kyle pretty close as well oh

No it’s not the first time this round that we saw that from Mason where we saw a birdie Putt and very quickly turns into a bogey yeah the Bogies happen quick out here especially with these slopes like even if you’re just you know a normal circles Edge putt that airballs or Clips

Metal can just get that little bit of extra roll or scoot to to circles Edge and give you that tester par putt which our our must makes out here at Olympus heading into whole 11 490 ft power 4 Choose Your Own Adventure off the t-shot whatever you’ve got to put yourself in

This Landing zone right here and then you’ve got about a 200t uphill approach onto this sloped green with an elevated basket you might see some forehand off the te might see some back hands down various different gaps but it’s kind of a fun little hole can throw whatever shot you’re most comfortable

With KY get sneaky through some of that finds himself at a decent spot Gavin just having some problems with the height control very important here on these Florida courses a lot of low limbs lot of low ceilings to navigate so got to have your nose angles

Under control out of the hand if you want to you progress far enough down the Fairway good good scramble though or at least recovery shot I should should say yeah both him and Mason are going to have pretty decent third shots going uphill have to stick something pretty

Good like that from Ganon he should have himself a birdie yeah that was an insane shot by again basically cut the corner he ended up short left and just kind of found a gap in the sky to just absolutely pure a flex line through that was that was pretty wild

Mason looks like he caught I don’t know if that’s a rock or stump yeah there’s like a little mound in the middle of this Fairway I don’t remember what exactly it is but right around 50 ft can definitely get you into some trouble but yeah great birdie by

Ganon basically a scramble birdie from being out of position off his drive to get a putt out of that is pretty crazy very easy birdie there for kyleon the other bogey do you have like a term for when you go birdie into a bogey where normally we have bogey into

Birdie would be like a bounceback so you have like a personal term I don’t have one I think we need to start keeping that stat though so stat Mando if you’re out there or if maybe they already have it tell me tell me what you got cuz uh

Yeah I I think it’s an interesting set and I think it should be recorded more similar to like a bounce back yeah just I find that interesting within statistics whatever it is I’m probably number one CU I feel all my birdies get have followed immediately with Bogies

But that doesn’t matter because I’m not on this coverage uh we got the whole 12 for those who couldn’t tell is a huge for heer forehand if you’ve got it or a big turnover shot super far downhill 563 foot par three so definitely a bonus birdie um on this course

CU it is a super demanding line yeah in the last part three of the course so great shot there from Gavin should be on the dance floor for a birdie putt is this the last time you see a part three for the rest of the round yeah you don’t really realize it

When you’re out there at least I don’t but um it Olympus is definitely a par a par four heavy course um we kind of mentioned it during round one but placement shots are very important especially off the te kind of just playing to the correct Landing zones and

Um you know staying in the Fairway is uh how you’re going to score out here that was a nice little scramble shot from I think that was Gavin able to save the par these these Woods over here on the right short right hand side can get pretty tricky if you’re not careful so

Nice scrambles by both of those guys to able to secure the par one of the flatter Greens on the course as well that was a birdie for Gavin so that that was KY or Mason that was uh pitching out there so got it yeah great birdie pickup on the on the

And play for free at chess.com today jum me in the whole 13 part 4 4 68 ft most players throwing a forehand through this Gap right here and then you kind of have to work with what you got usually a turnover forehand into the green could get aggressive here and go

With maybe a roller or a big Flex backand if you want to try to get a long eagle look but I think most players content to try to play for the birdie you really want the disc to finish right on this one should open up the Fairway for a nice straight

Shot yeah these guys struggling on this one three really honestly poor t- shots to this is a very big gap so to just absolutely whiff for three of these four t- shots is and this is a tough scramble if you’re out of position there are a

Ton of trees off the Fairway on this hole to navigate so Ganon doing a great job to just get himself an outside you know pitch up for his par but um yeah this is this is not going to be easy oh no scaven having himself a tough time getting down this Fairway

So I believe that was Kyle this really I would think is one of the Gimme birdies here is this is one of the easiest holes of the day aside for maybe uh par five where people are getting those Eagles this is one where I feel like you

Come up and you got to get your birdie here more than half the field grabbing one yeah I mean you know the t-shot is pretty straightforward for one and and two even if your t-shot is a little off it’s you’re usually going to end up with

Less than 300 ft into the basket so you should be able to still find some way to give yourself a long look even with an air and t- shot but you know as these guys showed you even the easy quote unquote easy holes out here at Olympus

Still have some teeth when you uh throw errant shots so no can’t can’t take this hole off or for granted that’s for sure jumping into whole 14 764 ft par 4 throwing a another right to left moving t- shot lands you somewhere around the group of trees we just flew by and then

A forehand or backhand turnover into the basket depending on where your t-shot lies but goal number one is hit this Gap yeah a lot of snaking shots I’m noticing a lot of snaking shots where it’s right to left and then you’re going left to right on your your second shot

Yes that is definitely a very common theme out here a lot of Flex for hands into into the green after you’re throwing like a backhand heer off the te or something along those lines um there’s definitely a good handful of holes that kind of Follow That same

Pattern on this course so you got to you got to have all the tools to score well out here at Olympus got to have all the shot shapes and uh be able to hit gaps doing so plenty of space for these guys not too much danger couple trees

Could make your angle a little different but scanon was a little tucked off yeah just pushed his drive a little too straight caught that Saw Grass On The Backs side which is just kind of unfortunate you can’t really see it here but Mason and Gavin’s drives are both

Sitting in this like little Gully which makes the the footing on this upshot very tricky cuz you kind of either have a down slope or an up slope that was a sick shot there from Mason yeah super smooth backand turnover and a nice shot from Gavin as well he’s going

To have a tricky putt with that tree that’s on the right hand side of the green but should be able to make something work with a a straddle genon should be able to get as par as this just misses the tree and those trees both on the left

And right can come in very quickly Kyle just on the edge he should be fine but mentioned it in round one big danger there if you get kind of tucked in there nice birdie for G he was able to push past that tree on the right hand

Side or from this angle left hand side Mason might have a little bit of trouble too just a bit off put hasn’t quite been there for Mason today just struggling to score out here really Kyle the only person on our card to kind of be able to consistently

String birdies together put down a solid round but still a lot of work to be done here down the stretch starting with the par five 15th 934 ft big downhill T shot hoping to land somewhere in this range then kind of pinches off about 2/3 of the way down the Fairway ideally your

Second shot’s getting past that pinch point to leave you a pretty straightforward shot into the green if you’re playing for birdie or if you want to get a little more aggressive and play for that eagle can bite off a little more off the T but brings in that danger

Of drifting off to the left or right if you decide to throw a distance driver Great shot there yeah Kyle biting off a big chunk off the te that’s that’s an eagle range for sure you can kind of see that old tead that’s a a patch of lighter grass on the left hand side of the Fairway anything past that is is going to put

You in in Eagle range if you can get probably 50 to 100 feet past it um that’s kind of a good Landmark for these guys of what they’re bite off Mason still struggling I mean should be able to still get up and down for birdie yeah has a chance just has to

Bite off a lot more here on this second shot this is looking pretty good yeah puts himself right in the middle of that pinch Point still still going to have probably less than two 80 into the Green from there so nice recovery yeah that’s tradition there you just

Kind of have something finished to the left and give yourself 150 200 could be a little more aggressive like Ganon here and as expected Kyle getting aggressive wow what a shot I think that should put him outside just outside the circle couple long looks from these guys so Nathan we had four

Eagles the first day oh inches away we had four Eagles the first day uh can you name the person you might know this but can you name the person who also got an eagle today was it the goose the goose is two for two with eagles grabbing it again as well as Garrick

Girthy Two Eagles on the day very impressive Kyle inches away from Able from grabbing that third but uh he’ll have one more chance in round four nice star frame from our card here on the 15th jumping into hole 16 73 7 foot par 4 most players throwing a left to right

Moving turnover shot that might get a little bit of finish Landing somewhere on this hill would be ideal leaves you with about a 250t to 300t forehand into this green Gavin’s going to be a little pinched off if you find that Shrubbery there on the left left

Early could make for a tricky second shot a nice little roll out there for Kyle to still give him a chance Canon doesn’t like this out of the hand and yeah rightfully so that’s not just never had enough turn on it worth mentioning too there is OB the whole right side

This fence on the right hand side is out of bounds so that is probably in the back of these players Minds you definitely don’t want to overturn off the te but this mistake of under turning it is almost just as bad cuz it’s pretty much just a pitch out from

There yeah no one really executing their t- shot Mason getting creative with the uh forehand roller we will see where he’s going to be on The Fairway yeah Kyle ended up in a decent spot had the forehand but just wasn’t able to quite get enough on it to get

Himself all the way up to the green so comes up a bit short nice scramble there from Mason yeah throws that Pitch Out flick roller and gives himself a nice short power putt coming up textbook for all these guys all great for hands should have easy par saves and Kyle good

Bid yeah outside look at the birdie but comes up a bit short there is a bit of a slope behind this basket so can get you into some trouble if you’re not careful P six came in right in that middle of the pack averaging you know a

10 20th. five .05 Strokes overpower so not losing too many strokes to the field with a par on 16 same goes for 17 the second hardest hole on the course to par a 588 ft par 4 looking to get yourself over that OB pond on your t-shot to set up a low

Ceiling second but the Gap and the low ceiling combination off the te can really put you in a tricky spot spot if you’re a little bit off yeah and then you throw OB in there and it’s a recipe for disaster yeah the big numbers can come

Up quick here if you’re not careful also with this t-shot being so blind you know these players are throwing their disc disappears through that Gap and then you just kind of wait for the spotter to hold up a flag pitch out for Gavin he now throwing three for the rest of the

Card but does a good job getting up and down there yeah wow that was a great recovery shot there is ob2 on that M Just Clips that Branch there is ob2 on the left side of the green up there so you got to be careful with the stability of your

Disc coming into the green got to land something nice and soft as Kyle does there scoots a little long might be a tricky putt but still a good shot Canon trying to figure out what what’s going on is Mason just finding met not the chains unfortunately great parse from Gavin

There just having to pitch out after the t-shot nice oh tricky little birdie putt there from Ganon does able to find the bottom of the basket and a nice birdie from Kyle as well these guys are putting some solid rounds together after you know Kyle kind

Of been slow and steady the whole way again and kind of a rocky front nine but getting some nice birdies here at the end of the round but definitely not over yet cuz we have the daunting hole 18 par 4 680 ft I call it an 80t

Elevation drop off the te down into this lower area and then all the way back uphill into the island green super demanding finishing hole and uh always leads us to an exciting finish out here at Olympus trees moving a little bit here not the hole you want to be

Throwing on right when the wind gust picks up yeah this this this forehand play is a pretty common play it’s kind of scary to throw off the te cuz your just disappears behind those trees to the right hand side but there is a good amount of space over there so

As long as you can throw something with stability that you trust that’ll finish right you should be in an okay spot this can be in trouble cuz that pond is right in the middle of the two Fairways be there for Gavin then Mason low left looks like he’s going to be going

From the Drop Zone like you mentioned if you crossed in you can throw from where you went out but if not it’s a drop zone play correct yep yeah and the drop zone is about 300 ft but you know with a good bit of elevation so it’s a pretty good Pole to

Still get up there onto the Green from the Drop Zone Gavin just playing from where he went out leaves him a little bit shorter of an up shot he’s able to execute that well genon stays green yeah and this is the benefit of that forand shot off the te too is it

Makes the second shot a little bit closer you kind of just have a nice forehand again into the green up that hill Oh no bit low right just doesn’t quite stick we’ been Str a such a strong finish there for Ganon but nonetheless solid round Kyle

Klein the man of this card I would say seven down that’s going to put him in third up onto lead card so push I believe that’s a course record too as it stands we’ll see the uh the rest of the leaderboard here in a second but kind of a sneaky little seven

Down hot round out of Kyle Klein well Done Canon staying pretty free on this back nine as well Gavin on the roller coaster Mason tough outing from him we’ll see him bounce back next time Bella is going to match that with the seven as Well we just take a look at the leaderboard here so much good talent in the top 20 I mean every single tournament there is so much competition such a deep field and uh it’s just amazing to see in disc off for Nathan my name is Chris we’ll see you next time
