Texture on the upper is something that Nike have played around with in just about every generation of Mercurial with the two most extreme examples coming in 2013 with the golf ball texturing of the Mercurial Vapor 9 and in 2016 with the rib texturing of the vapor 11 with the
Idea behind the golf ball texturing being to disperse water on the surface of the upper not letting it sit on a flat surface however with some colorways of the vapor 9 some of of them did have a more smooth upper with kind of an artificial leather grain finish
Nonetheless this really made for a super cool effect especially in this chrome color way where the vapor 11 along with the superfly 5 did feature this kind of rib texturing that I would argue was much more significant in terms of how it felt on the ball the extra grip however
I would argue was pretty minimal which one do you think was better

The ripped one were my first football boot ever.
Vapor 9 rear studs were horrible. Had 2 pairs crack in the middle and eventually the carbon fiber on the bottom middle of the sole cracked too, but that might’ve been due to long periods of use.

Vapor 9 had horrible rear studs. They got it right with the Vapor X’s. I’ll take the golf ball texture over the ribbed though 🤷🏽♂️
I’m afraid of wearing vapor 8-9 on synthetic cuz I feel like I get no support in the heel area, some of the thinnest softest uppers tho. I still wear the vapor 11 but it’s the least grippiest vapor on the ball IMO
The vapor 11 boots were the last Nile boots I had, but I had it in grey not red and black. That boot was brilliant.
Josh I thought that the golf ball like texture on the Vapor 9 was to provide variations in grip depending on the type of touches you were making? For example: lighter touches such as dribbling there would be less surface area and for longer curled passes or shooting there would be more friction due to a larger surface area between ball and boot.

I’d still be using my Vapor 11s if one of the studs didn’t break off. Using your cleats on turf/ ag can really shorten the lifespan of you boots
