I explain why I switched to an armlock putter like Bryson Dechambeau and Will Zalatoris. I also show my golf workout and speed training session with the stack system. I think Armlock putting can be beneficial to lots of people and not just those struggling from short range.

Good morning okay so to be honest this is my priority for the day I’m going to be getting married in the summer and so we’re doing wedding invitations today got be sorting out all the envelopes addresses things like that um so not going to have loads of time

For golf practice today so priorities for the day are going to go and do a workout um then going to do my speed training for the day and then hopefully going to do a bit of putting so on that point I really wanted to cover um a few

Things around why I switch to an arm lock Putter and why I think other people should give it a go too I think there are some real misconceptions around arm lock putting that it’s only for people that kind of really struggle from short distances maybe people that have you

Know The Yips um but I actually think that it’s something that more and more people should try and it’s something that I think can benefit a lot more people um and so I’m going to explain exactly why that is and why I made the Switch Heart You know turn Short So whenever I’ve spoken to people in the past about arm lock putting it’s generally associated with helping people that you know basically have The Yips so if people are really struggling um with their putting particularly from short range um then arm lock is often something that kind of gets prescribed

To people or something that people generally associate with that um which while that may be some truth in that um I think that that’s more to do with the fact that often it’s the people that are struggling with shorter Putters that are looking for different solution so people

That do have putting problems that are looking to to try different things um rather than it being like a natural solution if you look at the putting stroke of Someone Like A will Z Taurus um it’s obviously one Tour event using an arm P you can see that from short

Distance you can still create a pretty shaky stroke so um while I do think that it helps people with that there are actually a few other main reasons that I made the switch to this um I wasn’t having any real difficulties with my short range putting so I’m going to run

Through some of the reasons that I think other people even if you don’t particularly have a problem with putting should give armlock a go and how it can benefit those people one of the main reasons that I made the switch is because if you look at like any tour

Putting green before an event you speak to uh any you know putting coaches if anyone’s had any putting lessons I personally have um or you hear any kind of top players talk about their putting one of the most fundamental things that they do is their setup has to be

Consistent has to be consistent every time that they you know go to hit parts so what you’ll see almost all of them using is like something along these lines so some kind of a mirror um that basically allows them to make sure that their setup is exactly the same their

Eyes are in the same position their hands are in the same position their shoulders are in the same position um and things like that so for tour Pros obviously this is something they can work with a coach with devices like this and it’s something they put hours and

Hours of practice into every single day so um this isn’t something though that most amateurs are able to do they’re not able to put that much time into their putting and their setup specifically with their putting um and so for me personally the arm lock is a massive

Advantage in that because having it fixed in allows you to get your setup a lot more consistent than a conventional putter um and I’ll explain quickly what I mean by that distance from the ball and your wrist angles in your putting stroke are incredibly important if

You’ve ever had less or any seen any like live putting lessons it’s almost always something that the coaches touch on so you know whether you have your wrist kind of set really high have them set lower like you obviously see a variation of that between tour Pros obviously different grips can kind of

Dictate that as well um will massively change how far away from the ball you end up standing so if you you know often will have shallower hands we’ll have putter usually a little bit further away so you having the more upright tends to want to bring that kind of more into

Into the body obviously you see different variations of what people do but it’s really hard unless you’re practicing all the time to make sure that that is in the exact same position and you can very easily drift a little bit away from what would be your normal setup which obviously changing that is

Going to slightly change the amount that you are it’s going to slightly change your timing and can be a big reason that you know one day you’re able to putt really well and another day you know you struggle a lot more on the green so with arm loock by having it fixed onto

Obviously that uh lead arm you can then kind of play around it’s quite difficult to then adjust your wrist angles right like you can’t really break it there because it wouldn’t fix onto your arm uh you know you wouldn’t be able to go too far that way so by having that fixed in

It’s then very quickly going to give you the exact same wrist angle time in and time out which is something that tour proos say spend hours and hours practicing and have lessons see them before tournaments with their putting coaches making sure that they’re getting that right and this is like a quick easy

Way for me to know that it’s always going to be in exactly the same position so then when I take my setup I’m much more likely to have the same distance away from me because if I’m making those adjustments I’m probably then going to you know start tweaking the distance

Away that it can be so yeah that’s a really like key thing for me from the first moment that I tried using one of these PS I just felt like it was going to be almost impossible for me to get my setup wrong and for me to get my wrist

Angles wrong which have a mass massive massive impact on the way that you put and then the other biggest reason that after trying an armlock butter I decided to stick with it and I’ve stuck with it ever since um is Pace control so this for me is the biggest skill that

Tour Pros have that amateurs don’t have and no one ever seems to talk about it you almost never really see T pros from 50 60 ft you know racing it miles past and yet you’ll see absolutely every week in the group you’re playing in someone

From like 15 20 ft raise it four 5 ft past the hole um and distance control is just such a key key skill um I often refer back to will zat Taurus again he’s such a great example of someone who has really struggled with putting and yet if

You actually look at his you know Strokes gained on the green you compare him to other T Pros he’s in a above average putter so even though you see a shaky stroke and a miss a number of three foot puts he’s actually better than an average Toro and the reason

Being is because from long distances he is so good at getting it close to the hole and I think the arm lock is a really really key part of that so for me I’ve always had a thing with with a short putter it’s really hard if you

Have any wrist Motion in your putting stroke at all not to do a again with the kind of 3T distances but it’s much harder to control the speed of that you release it a little bit more it goes a little bit faster you don’t release it

As much it goes a little bit shorter also you will have heard a lot about you know you release it a little bit more you present more Loft it’s going to change the role you deloft it a little bit it’s going to change the Loft it’s going to change the roll again so

There’s just so many small things that you can change by altering your wrists that aren’t just included in people that you know struggle from short distances and that’s one of the biggest things that I found um when you watch someone like Bryson the Shambo P it looks really

Obvious it does to me anyway that you can just see it looks so fixed that it’s really easy to control how far you swing and the speed that you swing because you can’t really accelerate suddenly and flick it towards the hole it would need to be your whole body suddenly speeding

Up and and going through it so it makes it so much easier to control the speed of your PS um and that’s something that I noticed when I started using it obviously it takes a little while to get used to at the beginning but I just felt

Like I got so much better at controlling the speed of my PS where I would have some days with a shorter part where I just absolutely could not get the pace of the greens so if that’s something that’s ever happened to you um you know

You have days where you just seem to be you know one goes way short one goes too far past I really really think that that is one of the key ways in which this can help people um improve their putting because it makes a massive difference it

Has for me and it’s not something that I really ever hear people talk about when it comes to arm loock it’s always about people how will it help you you know when you’re under pressure from short distance um but I think even normal everyday golfers can really really

Benefit from an arm lock because of the way it helps your consistency of set up you don’t need to spend hours and hours doing it and then with Pace control again I think that could be a massive benefit to Everyday players um and ultimately that is the reason that I

Change I don’t have hours and hours to spend practicing my putting all the time um so by making the change to this it made a huge difference for me um and basically I wanted to share that
