All right I often get asked if you can use your pro to help with putting um it certainly isn’t the main use of it we all we’re all enamored with the full swing but you absolutely can use the pro to help you with putting so to use your

Pro for putting you just simply fold it over like so grip doesn’t matter and we’re going to create a very challenging exercise it’s a basically it’s a little bit of a rendition of our wrecking ball exercise but we’re going to have you putt with that so I’m just going to

Demonstrate this at first and give you an understanding of what putting actually is So most people p treat putting completely different than their actual full swing because it’s supposed to be still and it’s supposed to kind of really kind of guide and make sure the putter the putter stays straight well the one thing that makes putting difficult for most people is they try to

Be too rigid and too careful with the motion they actually they actually they actually create more problems by being too tense with it that creates jabby strokes and a lot of face problems okay so when you learn when you learn putting with the pro it’s different the stroke

Actually there’s a little play with the pro so you have to have the understanding that you need to have a rhythm and a movement that doesn’t have any jerkiness so if I’m really rigid with my putting and I try to make a putting stroke with my Pro my Pro will

Dance around the energy won’t transfer the great Jack Nicholas actually used to use the visualization of his putter being attached to a rope that’s one of the smoothness things that he always tried to practice in in his in his putting so if you can work with your pro

Like so and give it just a little bit of play so it doesn’t stay exactly in line with the grip when I’m doing this it has a little bit of an energy transfer a tour player that I like a lot there was a really nice putting stroke Ricky

Fowler you can see a little play in his wrists it’s not rigid now when we bring this to the ball we bring in a very unique challenge so this is going to actually be way way harder than putting and I think putting whenever you practice something if you can make it

Harder than it actually is that can be really really beneficial so I’m going to do this one here without the hole here but I want to basically see if I can putt with that same kind of wrecking ball movement and it’s very challenging because I’m using a round surface to hit

A round ball and there so that’s like that’s like some of the putting trainers that you use with a ball so it’s very difficult to get it to go straight so you have to be really in one sense very kind of loose and mobile but in the other sense really develop that really

Fine-tune that fine tune learning experience so this one I’m going to go ahead and align it to this hole here I’m going to get myself nice and squared up and I can feel like I got the center of that cylinder with that ball and then see if I can make a movement that

Actually gets it do that when I caught it just a little off center there so the more that I work on using my Pro as a putter the more difficult actually it is that one’s a little bit better but not quite enough energy so if you have any

Habits of actually trying to like use your pro to like try to or your putter to try to push or jab or you’re you know a decelerator or an over accelerator your pro just simply doesn’t like that the most natural putting stroke is one that where you really have a nice fluid

Movement and a nice Rhythm to it so I always say it’s actually okay to have a little bit of movement in your body it’s just you’re not trying to lift the Putter and do crazy things that’s a lot better than being so rigid that you’re you’re overcome with tension to the

Point where you like you lose all your touch so once you’ve done your once you’ve done your pro exercises you just simply can kind of put golf balls out here I love to start about two or three feet grab your Putter and then just imagine again your

Putter is like a rope and so if my putter is like a rope if I feel like I have to grab it really tight when I take it away well I want to treat it the same as the pro it’ll almost feel like it

Lags a little bit when I take it away so I want to create this really soft and light touch as if the as if the shaft is a rope and then that gets my whole body actually moving a little bit so you can’t detect it but there’s just just a

Little bit of play in every little piece of the body and the more that the more that you actually work on your putting with an attitude of not being restricted the easier it is to gain touch and have a really really reliable return to the club face every single time so working

With the pro and putting and just and using it basically using it and practicing this little drill of just putting it on a tea and trying to hit them in the hole if you can get good at that you’re going to have a really different experience with your Potter He
