In this go swing lesson we’re going to teach you how to get rid of that slide in your golf swing sliding in the golf swing is such a common mistake I see on a daily basis what is sliding in the golf swing people swing to the top of their swing and then they

Get their lead leg sliding across towards the Target and you get this kind of bod look in your lead leg it kind of buckles out perfect perfect golf swing movement for fats th horrible golf strikes and it’s really hard to control that club face so if you are a golfer

That’s happened earlier in your golf swing but I get student coming in going oh look at this I’m sliding over it and they’re trying to fix it by getting rid of that movement early on in their down swings for instance so they see themselves slide over by the time they

Get to impact so they’re thinking right I need to open my hips up more get this leg kicking back well that’s probably not going to help let me explain with Elite ball Strikers Pros on the TV their tendencies in the golf swing are to shift off the golf board at the start of

Their swing and then they reenter with their pressures this puts them in the perfect position so in the start of the down swing they can start to push into the ground on their lead leg they kind of get their ankle joint their knee joint and their hip joint all in a line

In a straight line really early on in their down swings so then they can start to push up and out of it start to get those turns those hips opening in the correct motions which gets low point in front of the golf ball which helps him

Tendencies do we tend to see with their swings well most of them shift off the golf ball and stay back here and have too much pressure on their back foot so all of a sudden their low point is way too far back and here’s where the slide

Comes into it our brains are super clever and our bodies are super clever it knows that you’re not going to be striking that golf ball properly so all of a sudden it’s going to do something to try and get that low Point as close

To the ball or and try and get it in front of it as much as it can and that’s where the slide comes in so from here you’re going to start turning shifting over and all of a sudden your body’s going to try and get across to the golf

Ball which is where you see this Buckle in the lead leg that slide across towards the target to try and rescue that low Point makes striking the golf ball so hard so that slide is occurring because of what’s happening in the back swings and earlier on in your gol swings

We want you to try and achieve this motion forward where you get lead ankle lead knee lead hip all in a line as quick as you can in that down swing the better you are at doing that the less likely you are to get this slide this

Buckling of the knee this left knee for a right-handed golfer kicking out towards that Target super simple drill to try and help you fix it grab a bag of balls or a basket at the driving range um something else that’s really good good is um you know those sort of foam

Roller things that you get in the gym when you roll and get all the knots out your joints the things that really hurt and put one of those next to your lead foot your lead ankle so when you do slide your leg’s going to keep hitting it so obviously our objective in this

Drill is to not let our lead leg hit the object in front of it this frustrates golfers that struggle with SL hiding in their go swings a lot if I was to hit just a normal gol swing normal gol shot like my leg is nowhere near

Touching it kicking out oh that’s a good shot go in did that go in I am going to ow one one of these days I’m sure of it and I’m confident that my lead leg’s not going to hit that because I am so early in getting this

Motion in my down swing that I know that all I’m going to do is push up push out get that left hip clearing pushing backwards and that’s what you guys down that lens have to do in your goal swings so you’ve got your barrier basically that if you are doing it wrong kicking

That leg out you’re going to keep hitting it stop hitting it and another great way of doing it is I’ve got this um like pedal thing I think it’s called you can use half a tennis ball or a squidgy ball put something like that under your lead foot under your toes

Under your balls of your feet this is really good to get you to start to understand how quickly you’re pushing into that lead foot and when I get to the top of my I’m already starting to push into it as I get to sort of here

And that’s how I get into my lead side so quickly golfers that struggle with this slide shifting over here like you’re not going to start pushing into it until you get to like here then you’ll push and already your leg will start to hit that bag so kind of a double whammy drill

Something here to make you aware of your leg doing this movement if you keep touching it you’re not doing it right second thing put something under the balls of your feet on that lead foot so you know that when you get to the top of your

Swing you need to be pushing on that pedal or Force pedal this one’s called half a tennis ball squidgy ball you need to be pushing into it by the time you get to the top of your back swing that’s going to help your pressures be more

5050 at the top of your swing not all the way back here it’s going to help you line your ankle knee hip joint up by the time you start that down swing look at my hip I Turn To The Top and then I shift it about a fist whip over towards the

Target you guys that are struggling with swaying you’re having to do a lot of this and then all of a sudden because we’ve got a mass down here and up here you start to slide with your lower body your upper body is going to stay back

Here to keep your balance low point back here fats horrible gol shots hard to control that club face this will completely eradicate that SL it will help you transform your ball strike in and you can do this with irons and Driver you get away with it a bit

More you sliders with drivers and stuff like that because it’s teed up but when you’ve got an iron off the ground you start to really struggle with that strike and chipping oh let’s not talk about it with the short game because some of you will have nightmares after

Watching this video but people that struggle with sliding knees in the short game as well no thank you let me know if this drill helps and I promise you if you’re just trying to change that knee slide impact by spinning more at the start to get rid of it you’re not going

  1. This is me…I use a couple of range buckets or a foam roller Infront of my lead foot to try to stop this

  4. Love the explanation of that alignment of the weight on the foot, knee, and hip Coach! That makes a ton of sense when it comes to generating vertical force on a stable point underneath us. Stacking and stability… I’ll definitely have to check this next time I go out to the range to make sure I’m feeling this right. Great stuff!
