Hey guys it’s Michael welcome back to scratch Golf Academy today we’re out here in Ohio and there’s snow on the ground but we’re still at practice and I thought it’d be a good time to share with you guys a good wedge practice session when you go out to the range

Again it’s super good to go out to the range with a plan you want to follow something so that way you can leave feeling like you accomplished something you know rather than just beating balls so today we’re going through a wedge practice session um go through all four

Of your wedges if you have them with three and what we’re going to do is learn how to hit each wedge three different distances so first I have my 56Β° right here and we’re going to start with a full stock swing so it’s really important that you have different

Distances with your wedges because you know depending on the situation out in the course you want to hit it high or low you’re feeling comfortable depending on the LIE it it’s just really important to have that in your bag so first you’re going to start out seeing how far you

Hit it full um I have 56 degree I usually don’t full swing wedges really too much so it’s about like an 80 to 90% swing here just kind of feeling and seeing how far it goes usually for me a 56 Dee goes about 15 give or take so if I know it

Goes that far what I’m going to do is try to hit it maybe 15 yards less um so if I hit my full shot 115 then I’m going to try to hit a couple 100 yard shots now there’s a couple different ways you can mess with distances with your wedges

One what I like doing is choking down just a little bit right with that’s going to do it’s going to shorten the club and innately make it go shorter so what I’m going to do here is just choke down slightly on the club and I’m going

To focus on just swinging a little bit less aiming at about 100 yards here and honestly you’ll learn as you continue to do this on the Range that those certain shots that you feel more comfortable with with certain CL Club so say usually you full swing of 56

100 yard but with your 52 a little knock down choke down shot goes 100 yards and you practice that on the Range maybe you use that on the course so it’s super uh cool to see and important to have a few different shots with each of your

Wedges so the way the practice session works is you have four wedges uh we’re going to learn how to hit three different shots with each so like I said I got my my 56Β° here I hit my full shot about 115 my 80% swing 70% swing about 100 and

Then now I’m even going to take that same club and try to hit at about 75 yards so it may look a little bit different um more like a chip shot but a 75 yard shot looks something like this and again being versatile with your wedges is super important so let me grab

My pitching wedge so we just practiced with 56 now we’re onto a pitching wedge here we’ll go back to the other wedges but again we’re starting out the session the same exact way full swing pitching W just kind of get a good Baseline here for be pitching wedge it’s been a

Little while probably goes about 1 135 is 140 maybe depending on the day and how cold it is when it’s on 20 degrees out but you get that full swing distance then subtract about 15 20 yards and then subtract another 15 20 yards um again I can’t stress enough how

Important it is to be versatile with your wedges you know hitting different shots in the course you can even do this chipping around the green you know if I just had a little Chip Shot here with my pitching wedge just to learn like or if I want to

Hit a pitch and wedge 30 yards how do you do that most people would just revert to a 60Β° but having different options in your bag is super important so quick video for today but toy around with different shots you can hit with your wedges it’s super important make

  1. Grew up in the Midwest, live in the Houston area now…we have a lot of wind and really tight lies in the winter. The only time I hit my 58 is if I'm chipping over a trap😊
