5-time major champion and LIV golfer Brooks Koepka sat down with GOLF’s Claire Rogers on this rendition of the Scoop.

Brooks dishes on how he got into the game, what he learns from losing, the most nervous he’s ever been on the golf course and a whole lot more.

Am I ready to scoop I was born ready to scoop I get to start eating or am I like you can eat it whenever you want W perfect I’m digging do that Brooks capka welcome to the scoop thank you sorry not a big scoop but so

You picked out this ice cream what’ we go with fish food your favorite yeah I’ll stack on this all day long are you a big dessert guy m I want to say no but the fat kid in me says yeah definitely so how did you become a golfer how yeah honestly I just

Wanted to hang with my dad and my brother and my dad always loved to play golf so I thought it would be cool I was like man go hang with him my brother is a way to get out of the house do something and it wasn’t all the other

Sports you know what I mean like you grew up playing basketball baseball all that stuff we never allowed to play football but it was just more fun to uh to do something where it was individual too mhm I enjoyed that do you remember the first golf tournament you ever won I

Remember more the ones where I like I lost like I remember coming home crying to like my dad my dad like what are you doing like play better yeah like you won’t cry but yeah I remember I remember more like the defeats and I do the winds

And I think even that’s so true even to this day really yeah like the winds are kind of a blur it all happens so fast but the losses are if you learn from them or do it the right way you can learn a lot more but they’re also they you’ll keep you awake

At night too yeah would you so you say you would definitely have more takeaways from A Loss than a win oh without a doubt not even close like the wins yeah they’re great but you don’t really realize your mistakes but when you go back and most people when they win they

Don’t go back and look at okay I did this or I did this I did this really well poorly but when you lose you’re like why okay so you’re trying to find that answer so you end up like searching a little bit more got it so you’ve been

With your caddy Ricky for a while I have how did he end up on your bag this is actually a really funny story I’m not going to blow up whoever it was the name before but it started in challenge tour had a guy CAD for me for

A bit he could not come to the United States He was going to get picked up um he was going to get in some trouble if the second he landed and um I was starting to transition back to playing a few events in the states and he couldn’t

Come so it was pretty obvious that uh I needed a guy that could go de up um in the states or Asia it didn’t matter where um and Ricky obviously being from Northern Ireland had no problem he’d go back there go see his family and he had

A place in the state so worked out really good why do you think you work well together now I think he keeps it light he understands I think the probably the best quality Ricky has is he’s lovable um Everyone likes him out on tour everyone loves him but he’s really

Good at like reading the room and reading personalities and I think that’s the quality of a great CAD they got to be able to know he knows what I’m doing before I even do it um he can sense just whether my mood’s a little off whether

You know happy angry sad whatever it is just by being around me for like two minutes he can kind of tell by what you know way the way I’m walking moving stuff like that and he can be like hey slow it down a little bit or like hey

Just chill for a minute like or just lets me keep going doing my thing he gets you he understands yeah he’s a good people person awesome and I think that’s like the biggest thing you can do for a caddy be be a good people reader

So looking back at your on your time at Florida State if you had to pick one memory maybe it’s on the golf course maybe it’s off the golf course that you’ll always think of always there probably more off the golf course but I had a good time Flor I loved it

Um coach um Coach Jones he was he did a phenomenal job um know with the recruiting process still does still go up there go visit the guys it’s a lot of fun but the team we had was pretty cool it was pretty special we had a we had a good time we

Had fun and on on it and off the golf course all right I won’t dig too deep um when I think of you I think of a very kind of relaxed laid-back person doesn’t get to you know I don’t know either way on the golf course but if you

Had to think of a time that you were the most nervous on the golf course most nervous um H most nervous um that is a good question the most nervous that I can actually I can think of um probably cuz it meant the most to me was um trying to

Finish off the event and it was the live event um in Saudi Arabia just cuz I finally felt like I was back I hadn’t won I hadn’t played that well but like I knew I was starting to come back and I could see the the progression um that

Was going on even while the scores weren’t exactly there and then like that meant the most to me just because I’m like okay finally I can do this again so I think that one was probably even though right it’s crazy there weren’t many fans wasn’t anything around but

Just the pressure that I had like internally and the want I had internally was uh was greater than anything else and when you felt that way like are you do you feel yourself getting quick are you walking faster oh yeah I do everything quick like if I’m if I get

Like nervous antsy whatever it is my Pace picks up that’s when Ricky’s like yo slow down buddy you going to walk with me and I’m like okay all right cool I got that um so I got to slow my Pace down slow my stride down I do everything

Quick you know you can probably tell just from like from talking a little faster to to everything um and it just you know sometimes you all got to be reminded too you slow down and just enjoy it and enjoy the ride so kind of on the same subject as like your

Comeback over the last year so we saw a totally different side of you on the Netflix episode um and I think like I really enjoyed it to see like a different side what was your own reaction to that episode I don’t know that’s me like I’ve always said this

From like day one when I started I was like what you see on the golf course is not like me right I don’t go most people I don’t get the opportunity to go into most people’s work and see how they are 9 to5 but like when we leave I’m like oh

That’s that’s the person I know I’m super chill super relaxed easy um very honest that’s all I wanted right like that’s that’s authentically me um and you know that’s that’s hopefully what people saw um whatever their takeaways we on it that’s that’s fine I’m I’m good

With it cuz I’m I am me and I’m I’m happy to be it what um you’ve won five Majors that’s kind of your thing you get major wins but if you look back all five and you were to pick one to talk about which one would it be and why

Um that’s difficult cuz they all mean something a little different um they all were different parts of my career obviously when you knock I know I’m going to talk about I’m not going to talk about all five of them but like the first one was a big one right it kind of

Unlocks the holy cow I just did something that most people can’t even dream of doing and I’m not even sure I even dreamed of this and then the one probably for me me um was probably a b Reef cuz I was playing tiger and Adam Scott and those are the

Two guys that I idolized growing up um getting to play with Scotty was really cool um that was that was my guy when I was growing up probably still am like I still love Scotty I think he’s he’s like my idol I love the way his golf swing is

His personality he’s such a great dude he’s honest and and just such a nice guy I mean it’s hard not to love him um so yeah that was that was the one that was special for me so if you had to pick one player from any tour to play with every

Single round for the rest of your life it would not be Bubba cuz I play so bad with Bubba we laugh I always say it’s it’s weird to like play with your friends on tour but um one person so it’s less about who you like kind of vibe with and more it’s not

Yeah I think yeah most people probably hate this answer but like Rory right cuz I feel like maybe divulging a lot but it’s like I there’s a competition and I’m sure maybe he’s that way or not but like okay I’ve got to get one more than him and then he’s

Going to try to he’s going to get to five soon and it’s like a oneup thing and that’s we’re same age um I think he’s like a year older but you know where we are in the game like okay then it’s just for me it’s like okay I want

To try to be a little bit better than him because I think he’s arguably one of the best players ever so it’s just trying to one up um for me that’s how it feels anyways keeps you kind of like on your A game yeah yeah right like I know

Okay I show up at at a major I’m like okay that’s I want to try to make sure that I I can get big enough Lee before he starts closing in that Gap so for me that’s that’s the way it goes it’s a good answer um aside from golf we’ve

Seen kind of you at hockey games before basketball games what’s your favorite um memory at a sporting event um I’d say that Panther game cuz I think I took it all in I didn’t blink so yeah you know what I mean like I saw I saw everything um yeah it’s uh I don’t

Know hockey’s playoff hockey is way different um I wish I could have gone to a few more of the finals games we were busy Jenna had uh her stuff during swim leek so I went to that and missed the game here for the finals but I think

Going to few of those playoff hockey is just by far the best but I love going all of them getting up close and seeing the guys and just being able to appreciate somebody when they’re good at their sport or good at whatever they do getting up close is cool definitely um

So you have recently become a father MH what has been maybe the biggest learning curve for you ah learning how to change a diaper in like under five seconds is I feel like pretty good like it’s it it the first diaper it probably took me like five six

Minutes I had it on backwards it was just it was a mess um but yeah now getting now get in the hang of that so that was uh that was the craziest thing but it’s it’s fun every day is so different he’s at that age now where

He’s starting to smile um and laugh and you know he’s just over five months and it’s it’s the coolest thing especially you know the first little bit was a little bit uh scary hectic kind of all all the above but uh no it’s just fun

It’s getting to that age I can’t wait to see like the next 5 6 months that’d be really cool awesome well thank you so much for joining me I really appreciate it of course thank you you should all subscribe to this because we have some really fun guests

With really cool stories and ice cream it’s kind of As Good As It Gets Mash that subscribe button

  1. The tour is not the same without Brooks – one of my favorites . He is the closest there is to being feared at a Major now that Tiger is gone.

  2. Florida State Florida State Florida State! Go win the Master's Brooks, we all love ya brother. Best player in the world the past 7 years

  3. One of the guys I miss seeing the most on Tour. All the LIV guys just vanished from the golf world. Sad.
