Erik Van Rooyen shoots 8-under 63 | Round 1 | the Mexico Open | 2024

In the opening round of the 2024 Mexico Open at Vidanta, Erik Van Rooyen jumped into the early lead with an 8-under par 63.

The PGA TOUR returns to Mexico this week for the Mexico Open at Vidanta, the final event before the TOUR heads east. Tony Finau returns to defend his title. Incredibly, he’s managed finishes of T2-Win since it was introduced in 2022. He hasn’t missed a cut this season and claimed T19 last week at The Genesis Invitational. Nicolai Højgaard will also be in Mexico and enters the week on a run of 13 consecutive cuts made worldwide including a win, two seconds and a third. He finished 33rd at Vidanta Vallarta last season en route to earning his TOUR card via nonmember FedExCup points. Emiliano Grillo will also be teeing it up this week. He’s already made six out of six cuts on the season with four top-25s. He’s also two-for-two at Vidanta Vallarta with a strong T5 finish last year. Others to look out for are Thorbjorn Olesen, Robert McIntyre and Thomas Detry.

Boy Van royan has hit every Green in regulation today he’s hit most of his approach shots inside 20 fet first of three par fives in the final seven holes here starting at the right side of that bunker trying to cut off it oh he got a good kick John got by it

It’s a long way to carry that right the big one’s 325 or 30 yards look at the canopy on that sucks and 301 yards you got to smoke it here he did it’s hard to reach wow you see that it’s crowned up there and it kind of fell right over the peroa here
