Everyone needs a “go to” tee shot. When the chips are down and you need to put the ball into play from the tee, a “go to” tee shot can mean the difference between success and failure.

Within this video, John Hughes, PGA Master Professional of Instruction and 2 time North Florida PGA Section Teacher/Coach of the Year shows you why a go to tee shot is important. And how to go about determining and hitting a go to tee shot. A go to tee shot does not always include your driver, which is why most amateurs fail at this shot.

John is ranked by Golf Digest Magazine as a “Best in State” coach and is one of Golf Tips Magazine’s Top 25 Instructors.

Next time you need to put your tee shot into play, think about the points John provides you in this video. And go for the “go to” tee shot!

John Hughes 0:00 If you watch PGA, LPGA, PGA Champions on TV,   you’re seeing a lot more of this. You’re seeing  people in the heat of the moment. Players who   are under the most stressful conditions, hitting  their go to tee shot. Not just the one you want

To see him hit. Come on back and I’ll show you  how you can determine what that is for you.   The go to tee shot is something that you’re going  to need under the biggest pressure situations you

Face. Whether it’s winning the 18th hole for that  Nassau bet. Winning the Club Championship. Or just   making a cut because you’re a competitive player.  What’s your go to tee shot? Sometimes it’s not   driver. For some people the go to tee shot is the  one that you can put in the fairway the longest,

The most often. And for a lot of people that’s  not necessarily driver it could be 3 wood,   it could even be a hybrid. My go to tee shot,  I don’t care how far away I am, is my 3 wood.

Years ago I learned this and literally played an  entire tournament with my 3 wood. And actually   scored pretty well with that tournament. The  concept is really simple. I can make a swing   with this and be very repetitive, and always  very dependable. And when you’re under pressure,

Your right hand, the bottom hand for the right  handed golfer, tends to get a little overactive   and shuts this down. 3 Wood offers me a little  bit more loft. A little bit more forgiveness

With that. And if I shut it down, I have to shut  it down later versus earlier when the ball is up   on a tee. I may shut that down earlier. The go  to tee shot for me, 3 woods. All I’ve got to do

Is just make my normal swing. What did I do? I  put my ball into play. And you need to remember   that check that ego at the door. Put the club  in your hand that puts you in play. Questions,
