Tom Aspinall recounts his encounters with Alex Pereira. Aspinall fought on the co-main event of UFC 295 wherein Pereira fought Jiří Procházka for the light heavyweight strap. Aspinall talks about Pereira’s icy demeanor during the pre-fight press conferences and suggests that Pereira was “sizing up” the current interim heavyweight champion. Alex Pereira’s legacy as a stone-cold killer lives on.

We obviously fought in the same car being him never met him before never he was quite Frosty when I met him definitely not happy chappie do you know what I mean we spent a bit of time together obviously there’s a language bar and stuff he do really speak English

That I’m aware of at least we went to did the press conference we sat next to each other he was literally I was I was here he was there got off the press conference and my dad said oh how was it I said you know that Alex Pereira he

Said yeah I said he thinks he can beat me you know and my dad was like what do you mean I don’t know I can just tell he wasn’t he wasn’t postering he wasn’t like trying to intimidate me or nothing I just felt like like he had in his mind

Maybe I’m just making it up I have no idea but I’ve never done it with anyone before and I’m not like that insecure guy being like he’s trying to fight me I’m not like that at all when when I heard that he wants to move up to heavyweight I wasn’t surprised I felt

Like he was like sizing me up a little bit saying that mate we were 2 3 days away from a fight maybe that’s just the way he acts

  1. Even as a massive Pereira fan… he has nothing for Tom Aspinall. I think the first 3x champ will be lower weight. The jump from 205-265 is too much.

  2. There’s just a difference between putting on a show, and simply not having to. In the modern culture it’s very common for people to want to ACT tough, and in Indigenous cultures people grow up naturally being “tough”, birthed of warrior values. Look at Dagestan. No need to put on the act when you know what you’re capable of. It’s the same thing with these guys trying to be “alpha” these days, but when they meet someone who is naturally capable you see they crumble and get small.

  3. Aspen would kill Alex I think Alex is grossly overrated and all his climb to that next belt that he got both of his fights were very easy and the first one he had it that weight class he lost

  4. In kickboxing, I'd have no trouble seeing how Alex could win vs Tom. In MMA, I think it's a ridiculous matchup to make.

  5. If anyone could take Aspinal, it's Pereira. Dude's got the left hand of death. But also I've been watching Aspinal do videos with Eddie and he's a good fighter, so it would be a really cool fight to see.

  6. It's actually Tom Aspinal projecting. This is exactly how you get into a fight you don't know how you got into in a party or something, and you got that feeling of "how the fuck did I get into a fight I was just chilling!?".

The insecure guy thinks you wanna fight him all night and finally crumble to the pressure and attack. Alex Pereira probably doesn't remember meeting Tom Aspinal, was probably just focused on his fight.
