This mere mortal took the Mizuno Pro 243 Irons on course. I didn’t think this would happen.

Mauno updated their pro series of irons here in 2024 and this 243 is the cavity back fully forged edition if you saw my video a couple years ago when they rolled out the 221s 223s 225s you know that my favorite of the bunch was the 223s and that was a surprise because

That’s a players forged iron with a cavity back it’s going to be not so forgiving but for me it really was and this year I’m pretty excited to test out the 43 it’s the updated Edition and mauno has made some interesting changes to these irons and I’m interested to see

If those changes were for the better or if it’s just marketing and are these still as forgiving as those 223s were let’s find out what this set is hiding that a lot of people wouldn’t know just looking at them on the rack is that there’s actually a combo set within this

243 set of irons because the 4 through S irons actually have a chromal under layer beneath this Steel and in the eight through gap wedge you’re actually going to have the full grain flow forging so a little bit different material and a little bit different weight structure here which is going to

Allow you to get a little bit more lift in the irons that you really need it those more strongly lofted irons in the bag here’s your 243 address this is 100% classic mauno nice thin Top Line bigger than you’d think even though they have Shrunk the profile down it’s still

Bigger than you’d think for a player’s iron and you’re not going to see the cavity throughout this set very little offset just a tiny little bit and uh that looks sweet doesn’t it now on these clubs I’ve got a nice heavy shaft I’ve got the dynamic gold 120 g stiff shaft

You got to swing this thing but uh don’t be scared of that 120 g weight sometimes a heavier club actually helps you get it through the ball a little bit faster now the great thing about a player set of irons is that you can really control your trajectory your shot

Shape and your flight of the ball so we’ve got 158 yards here I’m going to play this shot two ways and see how these clubs perform I’ve got the nine iron which I’m going to use with my draw and that’s a lot for me to go 158 it’s

Going to be really asking a lot but with a seven iron which is kind of my 170 Club normally at least with my clubs we’ll see if I can actually fade the ball take a little off of it and uh maybe flight it a little lower as well

Let’s find out what we do here two shots first up nine iron playing the draw got to hit it oh I did hit it man that’s high is it enough oh it just caught the front of the green I’m putting I’m putting let’s try the seven iron

Again we’re going to see if we can flight this a little lower with a fade we’ll be simultaneously testing how workable these clubs are and that’s right at it with a little baby fade oh yeah that’s tight that felt perfect that was dead center of the club face for

Sure I do want to test the Forgiveness of these clubs but right now I’m hitting them in the middle Square that’s always a good thing all right let’s find out the results well it’s not much of a mystery if you saw my reaction obviously the seven iron is pretty darn tight but

I’ll say the nine iron finish in a good spot and I carried this bunker here which you’re going to see I could definitely T put this off The Fringe so actually a lot of distance there 138 to 140ish is kind of my stock n iron in terms of carry woo that was

Really good but look at this look how tight this was nice power fade that I should take the putter out and putt it because that’s pretty much dead and uh here’s the pitch mark here actually well those clubs did exactly what I hoped they would be capable of

Love you’ve got extreme workability with these players irons this grain flow forging feels so amazing and it allows you to really dial in that shot shape all right this hole is about 145 to the flag stick pin is in the front of the green now in a prior video my 245

Video I hit a very nice shot this is the shot coming right after that in real time but for you you’re going to see this probably about a week later but we’ll actually see how this 243 Stacks up against the 245 I liked the Flight of

The 245 kept the ball nice and low got up in the air so so easy though let’s see what we do with the 243 oh yeah higher trajectory just a little right of the flag stick and looks to be about the same amount of distance now that was actually

Hit that was actually hit about right right here okay so definitely not the best contact I’ve got in me but what a forgiving result for a player’s forged iron you just don’t expect that out of many clubs in this category for sure and boy it still felt good I didn’t get any

Of that reverberation you feel on a cold day like it is here today I remember as a kid swinging in a baseball bat if I hit a little bit towards the handles on a cold day I got that shock and Reverb o it hurt didn’t feel that here at all now

That I would say was a very forgiving result in fact we’re past our 245 here that’s the 245 I did hit that one maybe slightly thin but I hit this one slightly off the toe still got plenty of distance and I’d have a decent popet birdie here as well probably 20 ft

Actually maybe a yard or two longer than this one but I could tell from the T box it just wasn’t spinning as much either way very forgiving result there for the 243 I’m pleasantly pleasantly surprised arrived all right 163 a little wind into me I’m going to go seven iron here let’s

See what we do oh it’s up there so high oh my gosh it’s like nine iron height for me and that landed nice and soft we’d have a really good crack of Birdie but I’m going to take one more here because when you hit one that

Good you want to see if it was a fluke or if we can repeat it that was a beautiful thing oh pulled that one but again way up in the air a mile these clubs just feel so good too seriously impressive Peak height there I got to say the feel off of these

Clubs ah they say nothing feels like a Muno that’s such a such an overused term but uh yeah nothing does feel like a mauno wow I mean I played seriously expensive Boutique Japanese brand clubs and this one is just as good it holds up it holds up let’s see distance-wise where that

Ended let’s see how the spin did I know that second one I kind of missed the green on so we’ll throw that one out uh I just pulled it but that first one I’m really interested in yeah so we had 163 I hit that 161 there’s the pitch mark which of

Course I’m going to fix off camera and it rolled out only three feet there all right we’re on a par three here and I’m going to give myself a massively difficult shot here from the back te’s I don’t normally play the blue te’s but I am today we got the blue te

Player clubs we’re going to play the blue te’s I’m going to see a couple of things here first we’re going to see distance we’re also going to see forgiveness because these are going to be the harder clubs to hit in any set and mauno again moving that mass down

Let’s see if I hit any thin here or anything like that let’s see what happens I’m not going to te up here because I really want to feel Turf interaction and see how these things react once they hit the ground all right five iron in hand here we go oh

Wow it felt great it’s a little right in my target there’s a bunker there but it’s over it wow so great distance great distance I don’t think I caught that completely Square I think I caught it down here a little low still got up in the air really nice and the

Distance was there again these AR AR completely traditional lofs but they’re not press Lofts either and I wasn’t sure I could get there here’s what I’m going to doing this shot I’m going to try to actually play a little bit of a fade cuz that’s the shot I’d play here anyways

With that bunker Garden the right and we’ll try to bring this in a little left or right see how these things work oh God they feel good and they’re really moving they’re really moving I forgot what kind of Club I had in my hand there these players irons

You’re going to be able to control trajectory at will for sure now I did come up a little bit short cuz the fade swing is a little shorter and that one actually found a bunker that felt great I actually hit it that one I hit pretty Square I’d

Say one more let’s see if we can get there I’m going to hit my draw again or at least my Straight Shot let’s see what happens hit that one a little off the toe but got up in the air so nice and that’s my best shot oh that’s pin High impressive impressive impressive

With a five iron for again a club like this a club that’s meant for a better ball Striker you’re still getting the Forgiveness both on that thin shot and that one I hit towards the toe it’s not going to be as forgiving as the 245 absolutely not going to be as forgiving

As that and you’re going to feel it more too with the 245 you’ve got a little bit more compression with this 243 it feels a little stiffer when you don’t hit in the middle but it doesn’t feel bad and you need that as a person who’s trying

To improve their ball striking you need to know where you hit that on the club face it’s going to be easier here with the 243 and uh I’m not complaining about those results some great shots again I don’t normally play these T’s but uh still have a really good birdie put with

That third one the first one we may just be PR close maybe On The Fringe and that second shot well hey it happens I am a mere mortal and if you’re a mere mortal too hit that subscribe button that’s what this channel is all about I’m not driving the ball 350 yards I’m

Driving it 265 when I really hit him well hit subscribe join the community leave a comment that’s what it’s all about all right last thing to do here is to rank these two 43 irons the first category is going to be distance and in terms of a player’s iron I’m going to

Give these a Solid 4 and A2 out of five lot of pop out of these clubs and uh man mauno just knows how to forge an iron with some distance in terms of forgiveness well in this category at least players irons I’m giving it a full five out of five I was actually

Surprised at how forgiving these things are those toe hits those thin hits I carried the water when I needed to those bunkers when I needed to anything and all I could expect out of the 243s in terms of workability As Good As It Gets we’re giving it a full five out of five

You can move this ball left and right as I demonstrated you can also tune that trajectory in for high penetrating shots or those low spinning shots in terms of Aesthetics it doesn’t get a whole lot better than what mauno puts out there so

I’m going to give it a 4 and A2 out of five it’s really really nice there’s only a couple clubs I prefer over this one but it’s right at the top of the list lastly in terms of value in this category of clubs they’re all very very

Expensive but I’ll give this a solid three out of five it’s kind of middle of the road there’s much more expensive forgings out there and there’s also the DTC brands that are really coming in at Great Value so this is really used to kind of be at the top end of the

Spectrum mauno but they’ve really got these things priced pretty nicely in the market three out of five here’s the total score for these irons very strong performance I absolutely loved hitting them if I was a little better ball Striker they would be in my bag I think

The 225s would went out for me this year so that was another interesting twist the year before I like the 221s this year I like the 245s but uh solid solid solid if you’ve got the ball striking capability for these clubs you’re going to absolutely love them I hope you loved

  1. Beautiful irons. You were hitting them really good on the day. How would you compare the 243s to the Edel SMS Pros you really loved a few months back?

  2. I'm still playing with my 921 hot metal irons and they're easily the best irons I've used.

  3. Got in 9 holes Sunday. I played with my 10 year old grandson. It was raining, so we played fast. I pulled two clubs out of my bag and left my putter in my bag and played his putter. I picked a 5 wood and 7 iron. I shot a 42 on the same 9 on Friday. Had a double bogey on 7 and 9. That’s one less than I had playing with all my clubs on Friday. Take away: going to play 9 with a half set this week. Not keep score. Have fun.

  4. In another video, you were looking for videographers, but something unique about you is the point of view you talk to us, which is pretty cool. Whispering, leaning into the camera. No one else does that, and I like it. I imagine it is because your camera is placed in your bag, and you get close to talking. Would you lose that if you got a videographer?

  5. I hit the 245s and the Ping Blueprint S yesterday just for fun… I may end up gaming the Pings… they are definitely about as far into the players category as I would venture, but dang they are nice, and surprisingly about as long as my P770s, with amazing feel and better spin/launch. Also surprisingly more forgiving than I would have thought. Hope to see you get your hands on some Blueprint S's! This was a great review as always, Gabe!

  6. I remember hitting both the 223 and 225, I felt like the 223 was every bit as good as 225s, but was worried if I bought the 223s and I had a bad ball striking day I would be unhappy. Bought the 225s and they were ok, but not quite as good on the course for me. I ended up in the Srixon ZX5 MK iis with graphite shafts to ease some elbow pain I was having and I am still happy with these irons. In the hitting bay, the 223s and 225 both felt very soft.

  7. I just picked up the Mizuno Pro Fli-Hi 4 iron and I am so impressed with the distance and accuracy. I'm 67 and was looking for a fairway iron, this really fits the bill! Mizuno is really making some nice clubs right now!

  8. Mizuno are just to high. Yiu can get a number of clubs from Pxg cheaper. Forged, custom fit , shafts etc Pxg is hard to beat now as far as golf equipment. Really is if you get the heroes pricing also

  9. 2:26, Stand closer and stand up. You'll be amazed. You're not raking leaves. If you bend over at address, you'll stand up in your swing (which you do). If you stand up at address, you'll go down and get it during your swing (which every tour pro does, ESPECIALLY Tiger).

  10. Can we get a Mizuno Iron bracket? Let's do the full range… more excuses for you to hit Mizunos πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  11. A Mere Mortal playing off the Blues??!! Those Irons are so good that they must be in your Bag – and you should be restricted to the Tips!

  12. There are irons out there, new or old, that just feel so right at impact, great trajectory, turf interaction is spot on, And are complete eye candy in the bag. Can't hit them enough. I'd say Mizuno has made quite a lot of irons as described! Nice irons there!
