Well we push this message a lot as the golf season gets started uh people don’t change your grips getting really distracted By uh I should have got my gloves ladies and gentlemen welcome to a special garage Edition I don’t know even I have no idea what to call this it’s not quite that range Life episode uh it’s not a I guess it’s kind of a gear talk uh I

Don’t know it we’re going to install some clubs or install some grips on some clubs um we’ve been talking about doing this for a long time it is currently oh it’s 50° we have camera we have an electric space heater and a Mr Buddy space heater that I’m borrowing from my

Dad so the BTUs are hot yeah they’re pumping uh but it’s it’s probably uhoh just about 40° a little under outside we have it at 53 is according to that step in a little bit to the camera there we go there you go all right um yeah so uh

You can see our breath a little bit yeah yeah uh anyways you have a box of grips I desperately need new grips on my clubs um let’s just start so we approach grips differently I feel like so I I replace my grips once a year perod well we push

Like the off season and a real busy year it might be a three time a three replacement year that’s sounds sounds weird but you know what I mean was that Tri anually triy anually um you know you can I feel like being spoiled I guess or caring too much and being able

To switch grips a lot but you can tell the difference between a fresh grip and a not fresh grip I feel like and so once they start slipping around in your hands and can’t control the club as well replace them but grips have gotten expensive but uh they have gun expens so

That that has slowed me down and changing my grips but golf seasons were going to start here faster than anyone realizes I mean we’ll be playing like real golf in February like we do every year whether we like it or not and uh thankfully our pales over at Golf Pride

Partnered up with us here and said going to be careful so I don’t dox myself help spread the word let’s get everybody set up there you go there’s a good shot right there let’s get you guys set up with some fresh grips and talk to people about the importance of some

Brand new grips for the golf season so we’re going to go through that a little bit yeah and we don’t necessarily mean this to be a how to although you’ll learn how to install clubs or I keep saying install grips CL um but I just kind of have generic questions about

Like for example how do you know like you have your grip you have your favorite grip I do how did you find your favorite grip it’s actually a pretty funny story so I was using uh I’ll admit it a lamin grip uh the utx I think it’s

Called cord grip and uh wow I really that was never a cord player always play the golf PRI tour velvet okay um these are your grips the multi new decade multi compound I never got along well with these okay um and so I I in short

Um a buddy of mine who is a former employee at Club Champion I borrowed um the original Ventus Blue from him to trying a driver and he had the the Z chord the Z grip from golf bright on it and I said oh this is awesome so from

That day forward that’s been my grip of choice would you um compare it to I’ve never played cords I’m really excited to to to try these um would you kind of compare it to almost like a putter where it’s kind it’s just feel it’s just like

Com it’s like Comfort yeah sort of I yes there’s some you know you’re arcing your putter whatever you certain swing but but really what it comes down to is like what you’re comfortable using what feels right in your hand what you have the best control with um but so that’s why

Like my best suggestion to people’s always like it’s tough because when you go to the the golf stores and you have the little short uh golf CH I actually have I I saw one over here somewhere putter projects so we won’t show that cuz we’ll say that for future content

But the other half of that putter it looks like one of those sample grips down and they’re always like so worn and I keep going off camera so worn and plasticky so it’s hard to get a real gauge but like your best bet is to really really like go feel them all try

Them you know try them in your hands and try one get one installed and be like okay that’s not it cuz I mean at I think these guys are somewhere like 1112 a pop now so you don’t want to get 13 of those if you don’t know if you’re going to

Like it I’ll tell you for so this grip is a it’s a very firm grip humble brag the Fuji Kur guys when I golf with them we making fun of me because like this thing is so hard on your hands and you’re not a professional player um it’s

True so what’s a firm grip it’s sort of hard to me to explain but like you feel one on a golf club like versus a soft grip you know and this will tear you up I like the idea too of um if your buddy just replaces grips and you’ve never

Tried him like hit a seven iron like hit a club that’s already been gripped by and see if you like it because that’ll well the perks of being friends with a guy like me you can just go ah I kind of want to try a new grip can you just

Throw it out in your garage for meh yeah sure and I do that for a billion people right which let’s do that throw throw a grip on I want to see I want to see how you operate here so this is what what are we going to do here let’s do the

Classic seven and this is one of yours oh yeah um so we some what what are these yeah the Golf Pride CPX you know down there yeah the uh the Moto I’m sorry BMX grip yeah yeah yeah yeah which is they’re a good grip um I personally

Thought they were a little too hard for me and this part of it too wasn’t it just took a while to get used to but yeah it’s a different texture and feel I’ve used this grip for a lot of like shaft testing um I don’t know if I could

Do it for like a full-time player grip but also I’m so stuck in my way is that I have to use I’ll tell you what though I would bet those things uh would last a long time yeah maybe they’re robust they’re robust all right they’re they’re

Good grip uh key tool the carpet blade yeah yeah the hook right the hook and you do yourself uh pretty it’s pretty easy right long as it’s Sharp it’s not sharp KN is is a dangerous knife well and these grips are a little chilly so they’re not as soft that’s true right

Close that oh guys say don’t you close that okay it should be good now I don’t know how do you do it so you have look at that just ripped apart how do you oh see they have these caps yeah so this can get a little touchy these caps don’t

Cut super easy all right that’s all right just go back in there that’s Co how do you deal getting this tape off so I would I would really just kind of like pick at it my favorite and then and then peel it off little map

Which I hope this is okay with get a good get a good shot in front of that camera though see would somewhere just cook it see if we can get yeah right yeah now I want it stress right now so is that just drying it all out basically it’s just kind of melting

It that doesn’t damage my shaft shouldn’t but all the it stinks too but I think like I want to be clear this is garage club building right right and grip installation I am not working at a refined top-of-the line club building shop I will tell you all of my grips

Stay on all my clubs stay together now you have this it comes off easy oh yeah look at that but it’s a big goopy mess now but Chris I’m going to show you how we deal with that did you grip these I did on my balcony and you know what El

So this isn’t work as well that’s we should do we should do which is funny because I wasn’t sure that they would hold cuz my my grip tape was really old yeah it was really old so I will tell you like the new grip tape was really

Old and I was like oh man I don’t know your tape held your tape matters uh and this is where it shows like I’ve noticed like bad cheap tape come off gross so I can tell you where I got I got at one of those kits you know

With the with the already cut strips I hate those yeah with the little rubber stopper that you use in the thing and everything else yeah that’s where I got it so here I’ll give you this job so here’s how you deal with this now got to

Oh it’s so gross got to clean it up yeah we give you one of these all right some and some solvent and some mineral spirits no I’m glad I’m not wearing my and just do just just get your hands a little dirty can I just do it right in here

Yeah Ian it’s just going to drip down the tube because there’s nothing in it but look at that look at your setup man we’ll talk about that a little bit too really this is going to come off huh the bulk of it we’ll go back to this but

That’s so one of the things I’ve noticed when you have bad grip tape yeah getting it off yeah is always a nightmare this grip tape here that I have I like it just for actually I take it back that might be intern Grant’s grip tape it’s yours now yes Grant thank you okay

Oh yeah that came right off all right then we’ll just peel this by hand this is where you use the magic of your editing capabilities what’s the mark on the camera so you can just right yeah um so another trick for that I’ve done that before yeah regular box cutter right

Like like shaving or peeling a potato right I also to say an apple but I don’t really it’s like a carrot yes I do a carrot I just like they also make a um a really it’s actually kind of nice it’s just this like little uh metal

Thing and you just go oh yeah that’s got the curvature of the I prob I should get one of those yeah your birthday’s coming up I’ll find one for you no that’s all right cuz I won’t use it Tim me just burn it off and well usually when you

Burn that stuff off it just like comes off I mean it just peels up maybe we can do I’ll n see well we’ll get into why I don’t usually have to do it cuz you change your so often it probably just like comes right off no I don’t usually

Have to replace my tape oh oh but I will talk about why that was a problem you need more yeah a little bit more hold your Hold Your Hand yeah talk about why that is a problem I had recently do you you do you double tape or anything like I know some

Guys or some players I should say not guys but um I do do you I do how did you discover that three plus two so I have really five wraps under my bottom hand three wraps under my top and see here’s what I would say here’s where I’m not a

Professional that’s just leave it yeah I guess that’s fine so um because that’s a good amount of tape and I use this really uh really stiff cord grip yeah these uh don’t stretch out a ton when you put them on but at the same time it makes them tough yeah to get

Them on um but there’s so much that tape creates so much like tension that it just holds it in place so they don’t I don’t need the double stick and I don’t have an issue okay now I will tell you how did you come across the three and

Two I don’t remember I read something on like a golf form so let me try that and I liked it so it’s sort of it doesn’t take the taper out right so it’s like some people like it to be so there’s no taper in the grip it doesn’t

Take the taper out but it gives it just a little bit buildup it’s not I don’t have big hands so um okay it doesn’t feel like a medium grip but it’s bigger than standard okay and now I just like it got um when so we’ll talk about why I

Don’t use double stick tape anyway so yeah that’s that’s wild I have this fancy apparatus yeah I think we can see that over over your yeah we can see that here a vice mounted grip station that I got at Golf Works a million years ago okay oh so that thing attaches oh

There’s a vice under there okay got it now here’s my problem so we’re going to use the double stick tape here and it has this uh paper on top of it so it doesn’t get messy makes sense right um these blades that came on it uh are so

Bad and so like out of the gate you go to you get a good nice one of these they just rip right off not with this guy so what I do take your grip you’re going to measure it out grip length okay right here I make this nice

Little line in it okay again not a fancy shop it’s my garage it’s we’re up to 50° in my garage yeah so I have that nice little guideline now oh some scissors okay to get a nice clean cut okay it’s a little ridiculous yeah but you know

But I don’t do this for a living I do it right for my hobby okay then I go not all the way down but close that’s where that’s where I place it oh you can see my my old Mark still yeah there you go that’s where I know that you I learned

That the hard way to Center your cent of your grips yeah after I did like three of mine I’m like oh no so you get that straight even close enough and you have a little fold over here right not a big deal it’s just a little bit uh to

Cover it up because we don’t want our grip solvent we’re going to put on dripping down there into the shaft down the shaft and possibly messing with your epoxy we’ll talk about that a little bit more too let’s get this out of the way for a second another Pro tip how do you

Get this annoying plastic off yeah right yeah hold it just above here and give it a good oh man look at you just cave full caveman Style on that thing it works I forgot I think so I forgot who taught me that is it but

I was like someone someone in the biz I was like oh that’s a good little trick yeah so I don’t I don’t know are you a single wrap double w yeah no I’m single wrap I just put the tape on it put the grip on it and then so this is easy hope

They stay and we just peel that guy off okay oh you peel uh you peel before you wrap yeah okay cuz how’d you get the tap the how would you get this off the tape would go over it no like once you start to for me well and I don’t have this set

Up but for for the individual cut ones if you start to wrap it it un peals it starts to kind of flare out the cover and then you just and then you kind of like finish it up on the back side oh yeah all right that’s what I do okay and

You just try to get it down nice and tight and even you know tiger can feel the air bubbles under his grip right I don’t need to hold this under but right just go Around I will be honest with you I am not super particular about it like if there’s a little bit of a line or crease not the end of the world I don’t yeah I want to try to get it right if it’s not right I don’t like redo it or correct

Now in this case it’s not a ton hanging over some people like to like twist them and like push it down yeah this is fine just fold it in that’s what I do too yep now just get a seal in there yeah what we didn’t do yeah yet get these out way

We need our solvent now the setup I have Chris yeah is this great catch pan with a tube I know this is great that goes on I think I’ve had this thing um brilliant did you make this yourself no but again Golf Works see attaches into

The the thing oh yeah look at that but this thing like especially because it’s cold is like brittle plastic instead of soft rubber oh but you stick one bottle down here oh yeah okay to catch it one so you don’t have a giant MK we’re still probably going to have a MK

Yeah two yeah theoretically can reuse it reuse it you will notice a little dirty in there it is really dirty in here so the solvent’s probably not the greatest to use now here’s the thing I’m going to let you do this okay show you how you do

It cuz also I am a terrible uh alignment alignment for other people I know what works for me now did you when you put this into the Vie you just automatically just put it tow up right like you didn’t yeah okay I try to get it straight but

You know if you want to adjust it so it look something that that I learned here’s my only one and only tip probably is before you take your grips off I Mark oh where the center point is on the old grip that’s why if you can you might be

Able to see there’s a little marker spot right there I’ve heard of people doing this that way I can just Center it and I don’t think about it um yeah but these don’t even really have I guess it’s got a center line here yeah they have the

They have The Notches so you go what I do is oh what I do is do this get get more on air get a liberal and then uh and then I put some in here too yeah hold it hold the yeah right again nice and liberal right

Because of our setup don’t be shy right we can use as much as we need to little little bit of shake yeah shake it up shake it up and then uh oh you do it that way see I do it out oh no no no see

Ian I pour the stuff on it right right I do that too yeah just slide around yeah it’s not going on super you know why that might be because there’s some cord in there and it has to kind of stretch crack yeah see there it goes you’re

You’re a logo down guy huh uh yeah I suppose I tried I never really thought about it is there is there a right or wrong way uh depends who talk to to me no I try to do logo down thinking like yeah the cool kids do it I was shocked

At how much I cared really no no no I don’t like this for no other no functional reason it just wasn’t I just didn’t like it yeah so there you go it’s on there it’s on my Center Line basically I can look down and see so

What I do what I do in the garage yeah it’s nice gross and wet and dirty in here from the weather take her off now give a good one of these maybe on the concrete oh yeah make sure it’s down down then I had towels they look good

Little little white because we just smash on the dirty ground and you have a you have a solvent coming out and you wipe here and I will tell you your cord grips are porous so you can get some solvent out so you give it a good wipe

And clean all right now here’s the here’s the other key thing you’re done you got a nice fresh grip on it you eyeball it make sure you like how it’s lined up yeah well I’m going to put my oh yeah yeah here’s the thing Chris okay

If you do this some solvent is going to get in the top and you it’s dripping this way it’s I always and notice I have these nice yeah you got the little teeth there dirty uh Cloud racks but I do this dry them grip down that’s a really

I appreciate that tip I had never thought about that four to six hours they say yeah yeah I usually go at least a day if not two yeah I go overnight um that’s why you have two sets of irons two sets of clothes that’s all I got but

Yeah so all right my other tip okay now this should stick here but it’s cold so like tape’s not too sticky so I told you I just use masking tape and here’s here’s my trick I want to see this I want to see this um so I need a new grip

And the old seven iron right okay and I told you I have three up top five in the bottom oh yeah you can actually see now that I’m looking at it yeah yeah you get it like right here yeah uh if I was really good I’d probably like not

Stretch that far but again I don’t really care I just yeah get the functional there yeah so here’s my trick okay I have this guy hooked up to an air compressor oh yeah yeah yeah yeah I’ve seen I’ve seen videos of this before the special one with a little

Very small pin hole just stick it in the end of the grip okay now I squeeze here CU again cord grip the porous and there’s a there’s a lot of tape under here so this thing isn’t dying to stretch for me and these ones are loud I’ve noticed

Are you giving it full compression you going full air in there or you just kind of babying it to get it Loose what shut up I just pop it off pop my tape tip back in there my tape’s come on good to you still now theoretically how

Many times have you done this to that tape like this tape is pristine once because I’ve only since uh sub 70 was uh nice enough to Beque these clubs onto me um I uh I think I’ve only regripped them once and so I had to take their tape so

Yeah I’ve only done it once but um theoretically say it’s just testing these yeah um pop that grip on barely use it comes off um now if I were to go put this on like one or two wraps of tape it would it would really move

Around so I’d have to use double stick cuz it’s going to be out I need something to grab it but it was I could put it back on this and it’ work just fine but it’s dead that’s fun missed I like that um so

Now I have my tape done don’t have to do anything really simple oh yeah you’re we liberal you’re very aggressive liberal Again by the way the best grip solvent ever was the Golfsmith grip solvent and I don’t have any more of it I’ve I’ve heard before read before that

You can use something besides grip solvent and mineral spirits you can use water and dish soap I like this I like grip solvent yeah all right so it’s not going on anymore Chris yeah it’s just not so I go back to this oh no way you know I don’t

Go I don’t know what blew off Fu that was but so it just kind of like baby a little bit okay oh yeah done shut up so that’s how I do it that is killer with that much tape on it otherwise it’s not going on yeah then

You just same thing right just wipe get the grip nice and dry cuz you just pumped a bunch of solvent and air through it pop it out give her one of these now so normally I’m not in my sweet roback flee and if I’m doing a

Full set of clubs go nuts and throw on the the shop apron cuz this especially that technique you will get grip solvent all over I saw it kind of spray over there shoots out the back um or right here and I would just wipe it on the on

The on the apron instead but check it yep nice and straight we’ll just dry it so that’s I mean that’s my big uh that’s my air compressor technique and that works in the garage fairly easy yeah um yeah yeah so now I’ll just I so that technique’s great for me because

God I don’t know how long it takes you to do 13 clubs and the pros are be like H it takes me less than an hour it takes me like 25 minutes no yeah hats off to you you’re a legend for me it especially with all those WS it takes a long time

Oh yeah with the yeah many yeah it you yeah it’ll probably take me like an hour I would imagine but I have that you know I’ve got the setup on the balcony which isn’t great well so maybe this summer or like toward the end of the season for

Your second regrip of the Season we can come out and have you do a a full-time session to regrip your club right right I want to do it this way well so you could and that I will tell you like a two wraps of tape especially with those

Uh Z chord grips yeah uh I mean they’re they’re tough they they don’t stretch much so uh even on like two wraps the air will help quite a bit yeah cool so I don’t know what else is there to cover what what do you think we missed I know

A nice golf glove so you have a good grip you need a good grip on your golf club yeah and uh one more shout out to golf prde for uh hooking us up with some new grips yeah first grips of the I I played my first two rounds of the year
