Today I’m going to give you some handy tips in this video of how you can score better on par 3es you don’t have to change your goal swing but if you follow these steps you’re probably going to start to see that your par three scores are coming down before we get stuck into

This lesson though guys please hit the Subscribe button for me down there we have loads of advice to help you improve your game and also enjoy this beautiful game a little bit more let’s take a look at how you’re going to get better on the

Par 3s so tip number one and we have no excuse for getting this wrong but actually if we do get it wrong it can be quite harmful and if you look at these two golf balls that I’ve got pegged up here you’ll see exactly why this is very

Harmful ball number one which is our correct golf ball we can see it’s just hovering above the ground on the TEEG there golf ball is pretty much covering the middle of the face ball number two which I see a lot of people doing is this one where the ball is pegged up

High and we’re trying to do this for a reason and I think the reason that we do see a lot of people pegging ball number number two up the way it is is to try and ensure a little bit of strike now you might be in the other camp where you

Actually don’t even use a te when you’re playing a par three but I would generally Advocate that you do use one it’s a hard enough game giving you that s just a little bit of a a buffer for strike is good but make sure you don’t

Do it as we saw on T number two because if you do and you actually make a good golf swing the likelihood is that you’re going to hit it from this part of the golf club there and as we do that the face will spin open and it’ll also add

Off to it so then what you’ll see is from pretty good golf swings but a poor strike location because of how high you’ve got the te pegged up you probably going to pull up short which you know you shouldn’t really have done because you just pegged it up wrong so make sure

Before we even start you pegging the golf ball up at the right height tip number two I’ve come down to fory ladies golf club today and we’re on the fifth hole as we do this one and as you can see it’s 122 yards and a lot of people

That I know say if you’re playing at your local golf club you’re a member down at your local golf club and you play the majority of your golf club there you’ll walk up onto the par three be it the fifth here and say ah 122

Yards always an a time for me this hole but that’s not the case as I actually zap the number here today with my laser or if you were using maybe a watch or you were using a GPS what you’ll notice is that the actual distance changes for

Me today as I’ve Zapped it it’s 115 yards so seven yard difference from what the post is saying to what I’ve actually gained with my laser Des that’s half a club for me or maybe even a club for some people so we need to get the right

Information as we start because as I now play this yardage at 115 I can actually choose the right club for myself also as I’ve come on to the tea the wind’s really pushing down for me today so that’s going to factor into it you might play with the wind a little bit more

Into your face we’ve got to gather the information that is relevant for the day that we are playing just because that post is saying 122 y it’s changing every day you might get some greens that are 30 40 50 yards long here this Green’s actually only pretty small but even as

The pin moves around from front to back we’re going to start to notice some subtle little differences so one day you could be hitting a 7on the next day you could be hitting a pitching wedge so make sure when you arrive at that par three that you’re about to play you’ve

Got the adequate information what is the distance today not what it’s says on the marker right come on good shot Matt par three dead easy just take aim at the stick oh it’s not my best strike and because I’ve gone flag hunting I’m off the back and down the right hand side of

The green as we play par 3es we’re probably getting sucked into a little bit of oh I could get a hole in one or oh it’s a Shor hole I should be actually making par it’s an easier golf hole and we start to think of where the flag is

Let’s attack attack attack not the case on a car three what you’ll tend to find is that a lot of The Architects as they design the golf courses they trick them up and they start to put different features in there whether it be slopes off the side of the green you see more

Undulation you’ll see more bunkers you’ll see water coming around the front of the greens and what we start to do is sort of be tricked by just the yardage that we see on the stick or the scorecard when we’re reading it just because this hole is 122 Ys doesn’t mean

It’s difficult I’ve probably had higher on this hole than I have the other holes simply because of that fact I thought you know what it’s only a wedge I’ll just go at it as where today for where the flag is for me on the right hand

Side of the green me being a little bit of a fader of the golf ball if I aim at that flag and as I’ve just done there and bringing some trouble into the right hand side of the green and I’ve fallen away as where even though it is 122

Yards I actually want to play a little bit more back left of the green now because there’s no trouble over there and also there’s a slope up on the side of the the green that is going to push my golf ball back towards the green if I

Do hit a poor shot so I can get away and if I did actually over fade it towards the flag or push it a little bit it’ll go straight at the flag and I’ll look like a pretty good golfer and I don’t have to tell anyone that I was actually

Aing at the left hand side of the green and get away with it so as we play our next ball now I’m going to be a little bit more cautious of where I’m aiming and just take into account all those things I’ve just said the trouble being

Right and that flag being on the right I do not want to go there I know it’s only a short hole but if I aim up the left a little bit more even with a potentially worse golf swing or a worse strike I could probably get away with a little bit

More and there we go safely aboard the green and now I’ve got a birdie putt all because I’ve actually just aimed a little bit better instead of being greedy I’ve taken my medicine and I’ve set up a good birdie or even a par bogey chance whatever it may be for your

Appropriate level so it’s giveaway time guys we want to hit 300,000 subscribers by the time the Open Championship is played at Royal trun and we need your help and as a thank you for helping us do this I’m going to be giving away one video Lesson every tip Tuesday so you’ll

Get the chance to have your swing analyzed by me and then a personal video sent back to help you improve your swing couple of things you need to do to be in with the chance of winning this number one you need to be a subscriber to the

Channel number two I need you to leave me a comment in the comments below and then finally I need you to like and share the video with your friends because the comment with the most likes will be the winner of the video analysis with myself so make sure you get

Commenting subscribing sharing and liking for your chance to win that video analysis with me back to the video my final tip that I want to stress to you and please please take this advice because a lot of the times when I’m playing social golf with my friends they

Fall a little little bit into the category of oh we’re on the eighth hole it’s the par three I always play it’s this club but what they tend to do is think about the best shot that they’ve ever hit now it’s great to think about the best shot to inspire some confidence

And get us thinking about the strike that we’re going to achieve the flight we want to achieve but if my number is 115 if I was going off my yardages my clubs for me my 54° goes 115 yards now it’s cold today and that’s 115 if I’m striking it nicely so if I

Were to pull this club out now and knowing that there’s trouble at the front of the green and I just catch this a little bit toey a little bit Healy or a little bit fat let’s say I’ve got ground to cover to get up to that flag

And also the flag’s pretty close to the front of the green today it’s not right towards the back so I’ve actually got more of a buffer towards the back of the green so if I were to hit my Sunday Best Shot to try and get it three yards

Beyond the flag let’s say 118 yards I’ve got to get a really good strike and am I feeling that I’m going to achieve that today it’s cold I’m wrapped up I’m not getting as much rotation in my swing I don’t think the ball’s going as far

Probably not going to happen so what I’m actually going to do is use the buffer that I’ve got beyond the flag I think it’s 10 to 15 yards all the way up to the back of the Fringe of the green today which is my 125 Club here my 50

Dee and I’m going to play Beyond this flag because 20 foot past the flag 20t pin High left is still 20t if I can actually just give myself a little bit of leeway and I really like I say if I can stress this to you when you get on

Par 3es now please please please start trying to play to the back of the green because 80% of golfers are short anyway on their approach shots par threes we’re hitting irons are we hitting them that good are we striking it are we flushing it we’re probably about 60% on our

Strike as we’re out on the golf course why not just give yourself a little bit more leeway hit a normal shot and even if it’s at the back of the green you can still hold a put there so I’ve gone up I might even just take a little bit off

This today cuz of the downwind nature of this shot but I know that I’m not going to be short I’m not going to be near those bunkers so it inspires a bit more confidence now and you know what I’ve caught that a little bit heavy there and I’m glad I’ve

Done that because I’ve actually only just crept past pin high so if I was playing the same shot with that 54 guess what it’s in the bunker so take that little bit of advice on board guys Peg it up the right Height please have a little check where the flag is where the

Danger is then think about what club you’re actually hitting try playing towards the back of the greens and we’ll start to see that your path three score should actually come down just without even changing your golf swing just by being a bit more strategic in what you’re doing as always sub to the

Channel loads more tips coming to help you get better and we’ll see you in another video very soon

  2. After watching YouTube golf non stop for last few weeks I've come to conclusion I need to get some facial hair to become a better golfer

  3. Thanks Matt. These are really great, simple tips that I’m sure most already know. However, it’s good to be reminded to play to your strengths and be smart by playing the numbers in the conditions and pin placement provided. It’s also a good reminder to not get caught up with what others are using club wise and simply following the pack. This was mentioned to myself recently when I played against my father in our yearly match. Dad’s 77 and has only recently gone from a single digit to an 11 handicap, where I’m 50 and playing off 4. It was his home course so I kept asking what he was hitting on par3’s. If he was using a 6 iron I was grabbing my 52 however I did have a couple that were short and just missed the front of the green. This reminder would’ve served me better a few weeks ago so Dad didn’t end up with bragging rights for the next 12 months. 😂

  4. Enjoyed this one Matt, not sure about the last tip but that might just be me. I prefer and have more success putting uphill, and lets face it most or many par 3 greens slope upwards from front to back, therefore I don't want to pass the flag if I can help it. I'm sharing this vid with a few friends and hopefully you'll get a few more well deserved subs. Cheers🍺

  5. I am as guilty of aiming at the flag as anyone, I put this down to primeval hunting instinct i.e. in order to eat you had to aim at or near the target. I do try to aim past the flag if space permits, but still lapse and aim at the flag, so this is a welcome reminder !! Thanks.

  6. Unfortunately Matt with the first tip, at Wrag Barn (where I play most of my golf), all of the par 3's are on matts (for most of the winter) and do not take tees well, so I have to use cones which are higher than you suggests. Any ideas to get over this problem please?

  7. Quick question on tip number 1. Are the red plastic tees short enough? They are the smallest tees you can buy.

  8. Surely another tip would be look at the stroke index. Par 3’s are not away the easiest holes on the card and I have found that by saying off my handicap I should get a 4 and by playing safe I often give myself a chip and a putt for a 3 and by doing so have stopped getting the 5’s and 6’s

  9. Why don't you inform your watchers (new to golf) that the marker is from that spot measured to the center of the green? That way, they'll learn that is how it's done at all golf courses. Also explain that the greenskeeper(s) will move pin and tee box locations 2 or 3 times a week, if not daily? And golf courses (here in the U.S.) will either have flag colors indicating pin placement (front, middle or back) and/or pin placement sheets or scorecard rotations?

  10. Hey matt I’m matt lol. I started golfing 2 years ago with a typical slice. I managed to fix that thanks to YouTube but not hit all my irons and wedges left can you help me??

  11. Great tips Matt! Love the distance tip, as where i play it's quite windy and always need to club up or down on the par threes! 👍👍

  12. Our 17 is a par 3, pitching wedge of the mats but I’m usually short. If I use my 9 it’s often long above the hole! It’s a sloping hole front to back so below a chip and run up the hill is better the trying to chip down!

  13. My game is finally coming together. What I need to work out is my course management and green reading. I think if I had a caddie for these things, I would shoot massively lower

  14. Wombats poop is cube-shaped
Now that I have your attention, I don’t mind par 3’s because you get to tee it up and I imagine I’m at the driving range

  15. Great video. My stats on par 3s for 2023 were terrible, definitely an area I need to get better at.

  16. Great vlog as always Matt , but I'm really looking forward to seeing the new putter that's going in the bag after the other one has been boarded up in a dark cupboard 😊⛳👍
