Hey everyone welcome back to another video and this week I’m going to talk to you guys about some common misconceptions about weight shift and more specifically when to shift your weight I think a lot of people don’t have an issue with the act of Shifting weight itself but more so when

Specifically in the back swing that they should start to shift their weight into the opposite side this done correctly can actually make the swing very very easy and feel more effortless and that’s the missing piece that’ll help you with your golf game and like always if you

Enjoyed this video be sure to hit the like button and subscribe to the Channel if you haven’t already let’s get started all right so when it comes to weight shift what has been taught in the past is that you have to shift your weight into the trail side complete the

Back swing and then as you start your downswing that’s when you shift your weight but after technology development we know better now okay we know that actually the weight shift happens even before you complete your back swing okay so the majority of people people when

They go back they look kind of look like that they kind of shift their weight and they actually don’t get their pressure into the lead side early enough what you’ll notice if I pull up the the pros on the screen here is that if I go in

Slow motion by the time they just are about to complete they’re already kind of moving their hips their weight their pressure everything to the lead side and they just before they even complete the back swing okay so they’ll kind of look like this here you kind of see my body

Move to the lead side as I’m still turning turning my chest kind of in the opposite direction okay so the common mistake um a lot of people make is that they either go up top start their arms down first without putting the pressure to the lead side or they actually try to

Do it too early if they’re trying to shift their weight which looks like this okay so they they’ll actually move their weight and pressure into the left side but their lead Knee will actually push out like this that’s what it kind of will look like but if you do that

That’ll actually make it more difficult for your hips to turn and that can affect other things in the back swing so that would look like this okay so to avoid that mistake what you’ll have to do is you’ll have to feel as though when you take your back swing

And you’re just about halfway that’s when you want to feel as though you’re constantly kind of moving a bit more into the lead side as you just before you complete okay so you kind of rehearse that or just kind of watch me as I do it a couple

Times you can kind of see my body going this way as I’m turning my chest the perfect drill that you guys can do to kind of figure out this feel is a step drill so what you’ll do is you put your feet totally together like this and

The drill is to step to the trail side make sure the pressure is on there first and then you turn and then just before you complete you’ll you’ll step and move the pressure to the lead side again you’ll turn again to the opposite so it’ll look step shift turn step shift

Turn that’s the sequence okay most people when they do this drill if you do it Inc correct it’ll feel really awkward and it shouldn’t it should feel very smooth if you’re able to do it correctly so step step right you can see that it looks quite smooth when I do it okay most

People that try this drill for the first time if you’re someone that that shifts the weight too late it’ll kind of look like this you’ll step and you’ll turn and then most people step and swing their arms down into the down sink at the same time okay so it look

Again kind of like that all right so now the other mistake a lot of people make is that when they do their back swing they actually step and swing their arms before actually moving all their pressure into the lead sides you can kind of see that I even though I stepped

All my weight is still on my right foot okay so again the mistake would look like this okay it’s important that you have to take your time when you’re doing this and when you step and move pressure and then you step again again you cannot start your downswing or initiate your

Downswing before your weight gets to the lead side okay you have to ensure that after you step as you’re turning your body and your weight kind of moves left you can see that my hip my kind of even my back okay my my knees everything are

Kind of moving into the left side before I initiate the downswing so again if you want to see it correct you step you shift turn step shift and then you turn turn Okay step shift turn step shift turn so I’ll do it kind of in a normal Pace

Here okay so if you play that back in slow motion you can kind of see when my weight is kind of moving and one important point that a lot of people make a mistake with when doing the step drill is that after they step and when they just about to start

The downswing or or step into the lead side as they step they usually kind of get their chest to open up really quickly but the key to doing this correct is to actually delay the start of your downswing with your with your turns okay so it does you don’t want it

To look like this okay you can see as as I’m stepping I’m like turning my chest what you should be feeling is you step you turn you step and then pressure shift and then only after you get the pressure to shift to the lead side you can see that

My chest is still fully turned okay and then you start your down swing so again you you you step and you transfer your pressure and then you kind of start your downswing okay so you have to feel as though you’re delaying the start of the turns um in the opposite direction a

Little bit longer than usual okay so step turn you step shift and then you turn okay you don’t want to look look at this you can see I opened up really quickly and that’s actually going to uh Force you to actually start throwing your arms at it too early and

You’re probably going to end up kind of stepping and throwing your arms at it at the same time which means that you’ve initiated your arms too early and you haven’t shifted your weight early enough so one more time you can kind of if you pay close attention if I step and shift

Turn step shift I’m still fully turned here and then I kind of Swing my arms through after I feel that pressure shift to my lead side thank you guys so much for watching now if you have any questions at all you can leave a comment down below and be sure to follow my
