Hi guys J Smith here welcome to ask Golf Nut Channel and welcome to tailor made Qi 79 I’ve got in my hands here now the QI uh take over from the stealth and they have some changes to its technology which is very interesting they make some interesting claims on the website tain’s

Website against other manufacturers as well so we’ll just put this up on the screen now effectively this is a graphic from Taylor Ma’s website and it basically means that they’ve tested for irons versus the QI versus the select go Improvement other fors and they’re noticing that the QI stays at Target

More than the others now we’re talking Paradigm xt350 jpx 923 hot metal and also ping g430 I don’t know about you guys but I don’t know of the g430 having a propensity to want to miss by 20 yards even if it is with a 4 iron out to the

Right so we’ll be interesting to see how draw biased this Qi iron is it’s no surpris that golf is tend to miss the right that’s why the QI irons are engineered to eliminate frustrating Fades the Fades is the important word no slices slices will not be um affected

Massively by equipment you can get very draw bias heads but all that will do is take away curvature so the fade side of things will be interesting to see how draw bias this is it’s still got it cback design it’s still got it speed pocket design that’s to optimize

Geometry ball speeds and you see with the Hydra bar Hy hyra H Hy Hy whatever that is Echo dampens and that will be an interesting thing because the stealth that this um takes over from it wasn’t the quietest iron in the world I’ll be honest it wasn’t it gave a really kind

Of solid punch now this has Echo dampeners and it is hollow bodied and generally speaking as soon as you have a hollow bodied iron any Hollow bodied iron it is a fight to try and control its sound it can very much so and easily sound like a hybrid last thing it has on

Here we got the flighted CG you can see by the graphic effect with that means the four and five iron the center grab is as low as it possibly can do that’s to encourage launch because obviously generally speaking four irons and five ions aren’t the easiest things to get up

In the air so having the center of gravity that low will always help that then it goes into the 7even the8 ion 7 the8 ion is it’s medium point because you’ve generally speaking got a half decent amount of Loft more than Loft in a sec and then when it goes to nine

Pitching wedge gap wedge Sand Wedge lob wedge that idea this does all the way go down to lob wedge that you have plenty of Loft so you don’t need the help in the center gravity being lower and so bringing the center of gravity up can flight the gulp a little more

Consistently uh last thing on Loft we have these 28° for a 7 iron which is rather strong but then this is a game improvement iron a game improvement iron with distance on its mind this golf club has design has been designed absolutely for all out distance and forgiveness

We’ll be doing the Forgiveness testing right at the end of the video while whack it all over the face and also be doing different speeds as well cuz this being a game improvement iron is going to be for the ala that needs a little bit of help with distance and I’ll be

Doing some different swing speed tests so let’s go get the simulator on let’s go see how the tailor made Qi iron gets on how it looks feels into a green simulat is now on we are at Glen for gol course we’ve been on this one before we

Whole 18 the last one of the lot it’s a par three of 171 yards and it’s up by just over 7 ft I’ll be testing this at 70 M an hour 80 M hour and 90 M an hour as well trying to Encompass as many golfers as possible to see how well this

Works when you start taking speed off right quickly by the looks of this thing before we go and give it a hit Top Line is um substantial every angle on this golf club is relatively substantial you’ve got say that big old Top Line sole thickness is decent we’ll call it

Blade lengths aren’t they’re not massive they’re not like g700 g710 kind of size that you had before they’re battering rams these are decent size and you have got that one thing I don’t like I don’t like that kind of like lump on the top of the it’s a game improvement thing

Bigger heads Etc but I mean it’s it’s not a bad looking head the only thing I would say about down by the golf ball we got that white lineup line which I really like and again ping have that as well and I do like that and you know

Depending on how you have this centered behind the golf ball how far your ball position is pushed forward Etc you can sometimes see just a little bit out the back of the iron it’s not a bad looking head I prefer it actually personally over the stealth but again looks a

Subjective right let’s go give it a hit because they do say they’ve got them bars in there to try and um quieten the old girl down um yep they need to do some more work on qu the that is a loud Golf Club wow that’s that’s that’s quite loud

Delivery is pretty good you can see path point4 from the inside face was fr fractionally open and it was just fractionally low on the face 33 yards in the air 45° to Cent angle at 177 was wasn’t the best strike in the world I will say um

But it’s coming into a green and it will stop at 45° now within reason so 45° is my magic number that I like to see every golf ball of mine go in and if we’re talking about raw control 45° the center angle will give you control on any

Surface whatsoever you have to be talking US Open style surface for it not to want to stop so but in reality where greens are not as quick much softer than US Open greens anything between 40 and 45 has a very good realistic chance of stopping on everyday greens anything

Under 40° and you’re in the lap of the Gods and so it’s stopping at 45° even though that wasn’t a plum on hit this the the sound is um substantial shall we say I’m not quite sure what it would sound like if it didn’t have those bars

Inside that’s me going left that’s my fault although not that much and this does as you can see in the bunker I will show you something here that I’ve noticed on testing so far path is 1.5 across and face is not3 close not3 now .3 close I think you’ll agree

Is not much close at all and I was swinging one and a half degrees left okay we are hitting a green at 180 uh 89 189 yards carry that was um this golf club as part of his Tech was basically say this does not go right and

I have noticed one thing they are right in that this is a somewhat draw biased head we’ll call it now I said to go left on that last one because I was 1.5 degrees across and my face was basically zero .3 de closed is not much whatsoever it’s effectively nothing so that should

Have gone left but it shouldn’t really be turning much left and as you can see by that um graphic it turned quite a lot it’s finished 20 yards left and in the bunker the strike was Plum on z0 it’s going 37 yards in the air and 46 and2 degrees of

Cent angle it’s going to stop it just has that propensity that want to turn left so if you’re a if you’re a slicer it’s not going to help let’s face it a slice is when your path is massively across faces massively open really inefficient slice is not going to help if you’re a

Fader this will help reduce curvature you end up possibly maybe going left a bit because of how it wants to gear the golf ball but it’s distinctly loud this golf club I would say but then again I have just been hitting all the Muno Pro irons Etc so yeah I might be distorted

Slightly poror strike slightly high slightly toe and it’s flying look at that though my um path was slightly cross face was slightly open there you go 1.8 across 1.2 open very fractionally high in the face very fractionally toe it’s a very very small I mean 4 mm is like yeah and then six

Mil toe obviously six mil toe quarter of an inch hard anything at all that is wanting to turn left even even with a 1.2 Dee open face 36 yards in the air 46° angle it’s working really well don’t get wrong and we are hitting a green

184 yards away what’s quad say on here8 because of the uphill anytime you’re hitting a green from 180 190 yards I mean that is a massive win really is these golf clubs are very very good spin is 4,200 we will keep an eye on that again

When I test this at different speeds we will have to keep an eye on that that’s open to the right that’s open to the right that’s still hitting green though four M low four M Hill good shot three and 1 half open see that is so interesting to see

That 3 and 1 half Degrees open as soon as I hit that I’m thinking that is gone that is so far right that is gone uh hasn’t spin is up because of my face which is 3 and 1 half degre open uh we’re at 53 now um but I mean 8 yards in

The air 48 degre Center angle that is stopping absolutely is that is not turning as much as it should because this is a very draw biased iron anything delivered like that I’m expecting it to not just miss 12 yards left I’m I’m expecting that to miss double

That this could be a bit of a fun game to see how much you can leave the face open and still hit Target you can distinctly hear it though it is so so um loud not the greatest of hits slightly high in the face and slightly tow but very very

Marginally it’s mean that face is not point2 open path is slightly across I’m yeah going slightly across today by a degree also 1.6 that is wanting to turn even with an open face 5 mil Toe 3 mil High 36 yards in the air and 46° of Center angle it’s working very well got

99.7 yard offline at 190 187 carry against 183 so I’m losing about four yards or so because of the uphill but the noise this is a very Punchy iron if you’re someone who likes that confidence inspiring whack then there you go this is what it gives a confidence SP out one

More and then we’re going to go do I’ll turn this all off get it onto the boring range hit it loads and loads of times at different speeds to see how this works when you start taking speed away 46 spin but is 91 mil now one last

Go I mean it’s again path is slightly cross face is actually open and that still wants to start turning left 1.2 across 0.6 open should fade fractionally it it did 6 that’s so small this definitely does want to go left that’s finished 11 yards left with

The green or working that way so that’s NE necessarily not uh absolutely accurate but I mean it’s 37 yards in the air 47° of Cent angle this thing is working very very well now I will be keeping an idea on that spin I mean I’ll

Hitting this at 70 mph 80 M hour 90 M hour now catches some good data sets and trying to keep as much of the data Club wise as bang on as I possibly can do so we can actually just measure how well this works when you just take speed off

And let’s get an idea whack it loads of times how well it works forgiveness wise yet all over the face not just little misses that we doing there from extreme Parts CU this is supposed to be a forgiving uh iron definitely game improvement iron and we’ll do the speed

Testing to see how well works for all different types of golfers all different speeds and see how functional this is let’s go see how the tailor May Qi iron got on when I hit it all over the face and also at different speeds I’ve captured information from 70 mph 80 mph

90 mph trying to Encompass as many golfers as I possibly can do I’m going to get the information up on the screen now there’s a lot of information for the three different speeds you got the ball data and then the club head data you can

See on the screen now you’ve got the red yellow and the blue denoting the red being the slower the yellow being the medium and the blue being the faster but they all launch in around about 18° that’s no shock cuz again delivering very very similar Loft they will all

Launch very very similar uh spin though you can go 3,600 36 for a slow 70 mph swing speed that is actually quite low my concern with the 36 is if you then play on a course where you do get mattera trapped between the golf club and the ball which

Will have a propensity to want to drag spin-off that could then quite easily go into the 2000s and then it will start going even more uh ballistic missile trajectory it’s going 20 yards in the air but it’s descending at 37° 137 now 70 mph 137 anyone any Golf

Club Hitting around about just under 140 yards from a 70 mph swing this is carry is actually pretty good now obviously the problem is at 37.4 uh degrees at Cent angle that is going to have no chance of stopping on a green so if you’re stopping on a green

Then you are going to or trying to land it on the green you are not stopping on that green that’s going through so you’re going to have to bounce bounce and run it in which obviously then has problems for bunkers at the front and all these different things but you then

Add some more speed go to 80 miles an hour and you go 162 so it’s going 25 yards longer which is a good jump I mean that’s a 10 yards and or 10 miles hour and getting 25 yards is a good lump of distance but it’s going 29 yards in the

Air and 44 degrees to Center angle that is now stopping on the green at 162 that is a good number so again this is one of those golf clubs where if you start taking speed away too much it stops becoming functional very very quickly so

If you’re in the low 70 so 75 to under I’d be seriously I’d want to be testing to see what your spin rate is these are my spin rates I’m not saying these going to be the same spin rates of everybody but you just have to be aware of this no

Different if you go up to 90 mph is carry of 185 23 yards longer so within two yards of the same gap for this um next 10 mph jump in um Club speed but 47 spin hasn’t really jumped that much when it comes to its uh spin rate even though

Generally speaking uh it speed orientated spin change you do get a jumping spin that hasn’t jumped a lot uh but again this is is a distance orientated iron it wants to launch it and it wants to spin it low for distance and it’s doing well at 185 yards that is

A blooming long way let’s quickly look at the club Ed data you can see any differences there you’ve got the 70 80 and 90 mph your efficiencies within 01 of everything and uh angle attacks 2.5 2.1 2.8 within a very small margin no different to club path and face to path

No different to Loft all within half a degree and strike is within a relatively small out let’s go have a look at how well this got on when you whack it all over the face because I’ve captured some information on this all around the head let’s just start off with the maxed out

One first we can see Zer mil low 2 mil heill 1.40 1.40 is on a golf club is mental even at 25° this thing is super super springy it’s designed for distance and it does it mighty mighty well if we now go to a 12 mil Hill 0 mil High just a 12

Mil Hill one 1.38 very very good Within 1 Dee of Loft it is very very good from a half in heel if you then go slightly low heel 9 M heel 4 mil low 1.37 even with a slightly open face again that’s a nominalized miss and 1.37 is very close to 1.4 and

Again it’s pretty darn good against Club head speeds moving around because I’m trying to do different things at different speeds um slightly low on the face just a normal low on the face 8 mil low um face slightly closing to a path on this one but effectively we look at

24° efficiency is 1.37 just a nominalized normal low hit Works brilliantly no problems whatsoever if you then pop that slightly lower though to 11 mil low 3 mil toe it’s more the 11 mil low and it’s how this golf club works is I got 21 degrees of Loft so I

Have Del lofted a little bit more and so therefore when you deloft something naturally efficiency gets better cuz deflection lessons as soon as deflection lessons efficiency or smash Factor go goes up but it’s down to 1.32 0.08 away from uh perfect and so 11 mil low is low

But it’s not drastically low and 1.32 isn’t brilliant from that location when you compare it to other golf clubs so it does really really well out of heels low heels fine normal lows absolutely fine when you pop it down to about nearly half inch low on the face

Which is still relatively low um it doesn’t like it that much if you go 7 mil toe 7 mil low this is a nominalized normal Mish hit that you would hit all the time 1.36 goes exactly back up to where its nominalized Miss is it just does really very very well if

You then go slightly more toe 14 toe six low that is 20 n mm gross off the middle 1.35 really very very good it’s just really very very good if you go 19 mil toe 2 mil low 1.33 we are now 21 millimeters away from middle that is a

Long way even on a golf club that big yeah it is still relatively a long way from middle so it’s still doing pretty well at 1.33 if you go this one this is one for a bit of fun 35 mil toe 6 mil high that is nowhere near that that is literally

Hit nowhere on the scoring lines it’s hit on the edge of the golf club have we lost a lot of distance of course we have we lost about 30 or so yards in carry and efficiency is down down to 1.17 but guys this is just for fun I don’t know

Of any golf club that will work anywhere from there just doesn’t work whatsoever it’s just a bit of fun one so you can see how golf clubes work from strange and weird and wonderful locations but so to conclude for the tailor made Qi let’s just do looks and feel first looks I

Actually quite like it the I prefer over the stealth I prefer where the carbon fiber print on the back is it’s got a little bit of Sheen to it it is big yes it is it’s got very large lines top lines are very very substantial uh we

Have got offset on there we’ve got decent sole thicknesses blade lengths are not small they’re not big but they’re not small but again this is a going Improvement they shouldn’t be feel is a different thing if you like the feeling of a gun going off you’re going

To love these things because these are not quiet and you definitely know when someone’s hit this golf club it is a very powerful waack and so those Echo dampeners inside that head uh they’re obviously doing something I’d be wanting to know how loud this golf club would be if it

Didn’t have them in there but for me it’s not for me but then again different golfers like different things this is why subjectivity when it comes to looks and feel is so much you down the lens rather than me just talking about what I like when it comes to Performance though

It’s one of the best performing irons as in distance orientated irons I have ever used that face is so ridiculously springy some of the numbers that you get from it efficiency wise are mental you do have to be aware of the spin profile I will be honest on that you do and so

When you’re getting fitted make sure you’re keeping an eye on what that spin profile is and at what point you’re going need to sensibly change from irons to hybrids to try and get launch even higher and spin a bit more because there will come a point of where especially in

A dry conditions of sterile conditions within a custom fit where there is no matter trapped between the club face and the ball if you start getting them down into the low 4000s or even high 3000s and then on the go of course you get a blade of

Grass trap between which will take spin off that’s going to start going in like Rainbow Flight driver Spin and it starts becoming nonfunctional very very quickly so just something just to be aware of but it works really well on forgiveness all around the face normally just be

Careful those low hits it doesn’t really like too much low on the face but generally speaking from everywhere else it is a mighty impressive Golf Club so hope you like the video if you did thumbs up go on YouTube like so way down there is a subscribe button it’s free

  1. Hi I would love to see a review comparing These and other main brand irons in this category where forgiveness and overall size are compared. Therefore allowing us to see which is the smallest but very forgiving iron.

  2. Superb review the most comprehensive on uk tube. I play Steath 2 very nice but agree that the descent is an issue averaging 37 degrees where as the T 350 it was 46 degrees. Will be testing Callaway, Ping, Srixon, Cleveland and hopefully Mizuno too. The other problem in this category is the strong lofts on the long irons make things harder and I’m a decent striker of a ball although a senior 15 handicapper so might go for more loft such as 23-25 degrees on the 5 iron. Yes I have hybrids but I like long irons for certain conditions.

  3. I went for a fitting for these last Friday and even with a senior shaft fitted and 2 deg weaker(I’m 71) I really struggled to get any real playable height, I thought it was very poor for the mid to low speed player. I then tested the Callaway Smoke HL irons ( not the HL Fast) and found them to be really really good, high and far.

  4. Really looking forward to seeing how the new Wilson staff cb irons do and how they compare to the last gen model.

  5. Jay, why do you think manufacturers make 4 irons in game improvement/super game improvement irons, unless they are the hybrid variety?

  6. I would love to see a video that groups the dozens of irons you have tested to understand how they compare. Would love to know really how much the difference in forgiveness compares with these sorts of irons vs something like the new 245 irons.
