Dave Campbell’s Tex and live has partnered with the PGA of America to shine the light on golf programs across the state of Texas with the PGA of America golf team of the month award today we are proud to congratulate vaner Griff high school for winning and
Joining us is Head Golf coach for vaner Griff High School Aaron Ford and the rest of the golf team and on behalf of the PGA of America we have recruiting and member engagement specialist Dylan glass he is here to congratulate vaner gri and tell us about some careers in golf so uh
Coach tell us your reaction about when you found out that the vanag Griff High School golf team was selected as winner of the PGA of America golf team of the month well thanks for having us on today guys um I think our first reaction was definitely excitement um and some surpr
Like surprise um you know anytime you put your name in and you know team in for an award there’s always this sense of like you know surprise and like excitement so we’re we’re definitely and we’re definitely thankful um for the PGA and Dave Campbell for um for this award
And um we’ve got a we’ve got a really special group of young ladies here they’re um they’re definitely definitely deserving um of the accolades that they they have received and I know it pushes our team um to continue to work and and be better on the
Course awesome uh so coach tell us about the work your golf team puts in that others not close to the program may not see yeah I think you know in high school golf it’s hard because a lot of people don’t get to see you know behind the
Scenes of what the student athlete um does they they’re more seen as a number it is hard you know in our events because they’re you know during the school day um in the mornings um but you know our our our team um puts in hours of training both in pra team practice
Um individual lessons um you know individual tournaments outside of our school school events um that go go unseen and going unknown of and um you know it’s the hours and the time that they spend working on their own game um that that leads them to be um successful um young
Women in the game of golf and and it allows us allows them to represent their their school um at a high level which is um you know as a coach is is what I’m thankful for is that they’re able to take their hard work that that goes
Unseen and and goes unnoticed um to still go out and um you know do it for their school um and do it for their peers so that’s really special awesome and Coach uh what does it mean to you to have Partners like the PGA of America recognizing golf programs
Not only at Vandergriff but across the state of Texas I mean I think it’s great I mean the PGA and know is is is such a wonderful organization um and just the fact that they’re um you know celebrating and and showcasing high school teams across the country and
Across the state of Texas um and you know makes us really proud you know it’s glad to see the PGA um you know support High School Golf and in Texas High School golf is really good it’s really competitive and um you know these these ladies may have um want a career in in
Golf they may not want to career golf but I know that you know even getting a nice award and recognition like this um you know it makes them know and us know that the support from the PJ is out there awesome and Dylan thank you so
Much for joining us today um why don’t you take a minute here to introduce yourself and ask any questions you’d like absolutely thank you Brett um everyone well let me first say congratulations um and on all three levels uh to the the athletes and the players uh to the
Coach and to the school you all um you all should give yourselves a big round of applause for for what you do day in and day out uh like Brett mentioned uh I’m a recruiting and member engagement specialist for the PJ of America uh and if you’ve been following us for the last
Year or two you’ve seen our transition from from Florida uh to Texas uh specifically Frisco so we’ve got a big office and a big building um down there and we’re excited about about uh sewing the seed um in in our backyard in our community and so again congratulations
But on the flip side um in terms of that recruitment side you know we want to continue to grow the game and so we do Partnerships like this uh to bring awareness to the opportunities um career opportunities specifically uh that you young ladies can pursue um you already
Are are playing at a high level why not work at a high level potentially uh in the next few years so congratulations again awesome so uh Dylan what are some different Pathways to a career in golf that you can have through the PJ of America oh uh it’s endless I will say uh
You know I’ll just quickly give you my story to use as a testament um or an example rather um I started off as a track and field athlete in high school and in college I didn’t pick up a club till I was 22 years old um introduced through a Collegiate program
Um and so for me uh my introduction was fairly late but you see that I’m still I still found my way in the industry I got my my masters and and my MBA uh in sports management um and so I was able to pursue a career in sports didn’t
Think it would be golf uh but you never know you never know and so it just proves that you should always be willing to take an opportunity and take a chance uh but you young women you you have a specific um um you have a leg up so to
Speak at at at your playing level now so you have to understand that you can use golf as a networking tool and you can use golf as a career tool um in the future but the pathways into the industry are endless awesome and uh so what are some
Of the different types of careers you can get to within the PJ of America absolutely I I’ll just kind of name some of the functions um and departments that we have obviously we have the career services side which is where I work uh we have our Championship side which is
Probably what you see on television or or U more often than not um more consumer facing we have a partnership side uh you know our title sponsors and our title partners that um that are over the Championships the Partnerships team develops those we have a marketing side digital and and traditional marketing um
I mean whatever it is that you would imagine happens in a corporate function happens at the PGA America because at the end of the day it’s the business of golf awesome so Dylan what should these students be doing now if they wish to pursue a career in golf well one I will
I know this is cliche but uh keep doing what you’re doing is is probably the truest answer uh like I said you’re you’re building the foundation right now uh for where you will be in the future uh if it’s education that you want to pursue if it’s Sports what that you want
To pursue just ensure uh that you stay after it right um and like I mentioned earlier understand that um you have a solid foundation by being a a high school golfer now um if it is that you want to pursue um sports or if you want to pursue golf as
An industry in college we do have a PGM University uh we have 17 across the country that allow you to pursue uh your four-year degree in business and then come out with your class a PGA membership and to be a PGA member means that you are the golden standard of the
Industry as a golf professional we have 29,000 across the country um and we’re continuing to grow awesome so on behalf of Dave Campbell’s Tex and live and the PGA of America congratulations again to Vandergriff High School on winning the PGA of America golf team of the month
