The easiest bunker technique that helps control the distance and gives you confidence from any type of sand. You will now be able to hit nice high bunker shots from all types of sand.
This fool proof method from tight, hard pan or wet sand requires focus on a different part of the golf club from lighter fluffier sand. Most golfers play all golf bunker shots the same but now you will see the ball fly out of the bunker every time. You’ll be Shocked with the results.

Right we’re on Bunker shots with lots of sand and bunker shots with little sand we’re going to start off with little sand hard pan tight tough let’s make it tight and tough look at that brutal so I’ve got very little sand here obviously so in the UK when it’s

Wet you know in the winter it gets very compressed I’m going to have to find a way to play this shot now I use a certain part of the golf club for this shot I’m going to use the toe of the golf club so this s off section here of

The ground on the toe is what’s going to interact with the ground that’s the area I want to strike the ground with or the sand with so I have to set myself up your normal bunker shot you know we’re coming in quite shallow I need to come

Down steep here so I’m going to set myself up with my handle I’m going to ground the club just now so handle slightly higher to promote that club to sit more on the tow so in here good now I feel as though my right shoulder’s high if you watch

Spe Jordan spe his short game is amazing he tries to feel as though everything’s downhill so he’s here so right shoulder’s high of course that’s going to make steep but you get so much Spin and Fizz from that which is what we’re after here so set myself up to the club

On the ground and I feel as though right shoulder’s High you watch Jordan doing this action here feel as though that’s where I’m at and then from there I’m going to come down steep but I want to feel as though the handle of the golf club’s high so I’ve lifted the club up

In this direction so I’ve maintained that preset position from a dress maintaining that preset position is so important to make sure the contact’s great let’s try one get myself up good right shoulder’s high and as I come into impact right shoulder will feel high and handle will also feel

High this is going to be a sharp Snappy shot so I’m there looking at point of entry my weights on my lead foot hit point of entry up and out that was good that was very very good let’s do one more now you can see there’s no sand there at all so by

By setting myself on the toe I’m using the Leading Edge but not all the Leading Edge so not fuel compression in there I’m not fully hitting lean The Edge it’s just the toe so there’s less friction or less restriction from the sand less friction or less restriction from the

Sand set myself up look at point of entry aggressive good again nice high right shoulder getting down there nice and steep now what happens if we’ve got lots of sand far too much sand okay so I’ve red myself in here now there’s lots of sand where are we there

Okay far too much sand I have to do a different approach obviously so I want to make sure I hit the middle of the golf club I want to use the middle of the golf club this time instead of the toe what that does is it uses the middle

Of the bounce so I’m using the fattest part of the bounce to prevent the club from digging so important that so so important to get that correct so now take my address position the this time the handle is lower and the face is more open last time the face was open this

Time it’s even more open the more open I Am The More Bounce I’m introducing to the sand less chance of digging under whereas before we needed a little bit of dig there face open great looking at point of entry now handles low when I take the club back now I’m coming more

Rounded and Swinging round the body and a lot less Steep and I want to feel as though the lead shoulder this time is higher so I’m here set myself in there so right shoulder Trail shoulders low lead shoulders higher that’s going to help with angle of attack shallowing

That out this here whereas before there is going to be steep so shallow the angle of attack out all from setup so dress position there handle nice and low left shoulder High using the middle of the golf club looking at point of entry boom just got it out because of the amount of

Sand it’s done well but you have to take that look how much sand I’ve got you so on Link’s courses lot more fluffy sand there’s more sand so you have to this is the shot to play but take into consideration how the ball is going to

React when it comes out so this one here I’m going to need more speed because there’s more interaction with the sand face is open left shoulder High using the middle of the bounce looking at point of entry this time more speed same length of back swing but just more speed

Better better okay up and out let’s do one more wow that will refix this bunker don’t worry my stance is nice and wide good handle low I’m coming in here left shoulders high lead shoulders High using the middle of the club middle of the bounce with lots of speed that was good

So I really kind of stayed down lower on that one to try and get through but you see the difference between the two shots the way you set yourself up the way you use the golf Club but the hard pan Li this one here I like that I much prefer

That to be fair I’m happy off there less interaction with the sand you could see how I struggled more when there was lots of sand but at least I know how to play the shots and now you guys do too so thanks very much for watching make sure

  1. With a longer bunker shot with lots of sand, would you consider less loft? Same technique but with say a 52*. I really struggle with this shot. 👍🏻

  2. Look at those pegs! It looks like you have two alignment canes hanging out of your shorts.
    Just kidding.
    Great technical insight

  3. Great instructions on both shots. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve bladed my sand wedge out of a bunker with little sand.

  4. Love the video. Not everyone's ball lands perfectly on top of the sand when they hit in the bunkers. Even if it rolls into the bunker, almost 1/3 of the ball is lower than the surface of the sand. Can we see bunker shots with more realistic lies? Much appreciated.

  5. That was really informative. I use the same sand swing for all bunkers. Going to really need to practice the compact sand technique.

  6. The only thing I'd say – that was a fairly shallow lip. What happens if you've got an 2 metre high wall in front of you and hard compacted sand?

  7. Either of those lies in an Aussie bunker would be fantastic….rarely find a decent bunker. Deep sand can be inches thick and thin almost concrete.

  8. Great lesson thank you for posting this I have learned from the sand don't try to get cute just get it on the Green

  9. Penalty! You can’t toe the club in front of your ball or behind it in a bunker! Rule 12.2 b(1). Your not allowed to test the consistency of the sand, or leave a target mark. You can however use your feet while anchoring your stance to get a feel for the sand.
