Wind is something many golfers have to deal with it and in newfoundland, it is a common nuisance. In this video I demonstrate how much wind can influence our golf and have it affects distance and accuracy.
While I don’t mention it in the video, it is important to understand that wind can affect our stance, how hard we swing, and our short game as well, so always be aware of what wind is doing before you swing!

Hey folks and welcome to Greg’s golf Shack how much does wind really affect our golf game and you know it’s the off season it’s winter many of us are playing indoor golf and I don’t blame you but a lot of us have zero mph set to the wind setting because who likes to
Play and wind yet if we really want to practice and understand how to play better out on the course we should sometimes practice with some win to see what kind of results we get now I enjoy making these videos to help you play better golf why don’t you click that
Subscribe button show me a little bit of support I’m a certified instructor with the Canadian golf teachers Federation I want to help you have more fun out on the course okay wind uh we hate it in newfinland we have no choice our average golf day in the middle of the summer is
20 gusting to 40 km hour winds you know that’s an average of 30 km winds going on and for you Americans out there that’s just south of 20 mph uh winds now I often find it amusing watching a lot of these golf YouTube channels that I really enjoy but they end up freaking
Out a little bit when there’s 10 mph winds or 15 mph winds and they don’t really know what’s going on I mean in newfinland if you don’t want to golf in the wind then you’re not golfing but the goal is to understand the impact it has
On our game and if you have the opportunity to play golf on a simulator to practice if you just go out to the driving range to see what kind of distances you hit with your shots you should see what the influence of wind is if you can alter that setting because if
Our shots are missing 10 or 20 yards left or right depending on the wind or coming up really short or going long we really kind of need to adjust for that out on the course and it might be nice to have those General numbers in mind so
We can apply them when we’re out on the course and find ourselves in those scenario so I’m going to do a few little tests here just to demonstrate now I’m not worried about my swings so much the goal is to have a consistent swing so I
Can try to get a stock pitching wedge a six iron a driver I’m not going to try to kill the ball just standard sort of easy play and then set the wind settings to into the wind downwind wind blowing left wind blowing right and see what the
Results are and share them with you and hopefully you’ll find it informative and helpful so let’s get to it so we’ll start with a couple of Baseline shots with a pitching wedge now I took several of each shot and just took the the one that was kind of the average here I just
Took uh two of them kind of showed you so 119 carry was the average I wasn’t necessarily swinging hard I wanted something more repeatable uh so we’re trying to get consistent ball speed and consistent kind of strike pattern so now we get into the wind 15 to 20 mph wind
Directly in we notice ball speed is about the same but we’ve got 92 yard carry so downwind again a decent strike here and it carries a little bit further the pitching wedge gets up in the air a little bit more and I got 10 more yards
Of it so right to left wind we can see again it’s straight down the line and my path that the spin of the ball was Center so that’s all wind pushing it out to the left there and win left to right again another good strike no spin off
The Bas so it’s a straight hit and again I’m 20 yd to the right so we’ll get uh you know a bit of a summary here that into the wind I lost 27 yards with that pitching wedge downwind we gained 10 yards on average right to left and left
To right it’s over 20 yds of push that we’re missing that’s a fairway so we’ll get a stock six iron here again I took a few but this was average for the day again just a repeatable swing 164 carry we’ll see what we can get out
Of these into the wind just like the pitching wedge it’s coming up significantly short again a straight hit very little spin4 ball speed we got 129 carry so now we have a six iron downwind again pretty good strike I pushed it just a little bit and we got you know the ball speed
Is actually down but I got more yardage so 170 there right to left wind we can see again a straight hit I actually pushed it out to the right and the ball is actually spinning to the right and I still went 17 yd left of center so we’ll
Get a left to right wind this one is pretty straight ball flight and it went 28 yd to the right so again we’ve got some big differences here into the wind losing 35 yards downwind I said six plus because a ball speed was down I know we could get
10 yards easy and right to left left to right significant differences now for driver I really swung easy just to try and get a repeatable swing cuz I’ve been getting a little bit of a draw so that’s no wind 227 carry you know a little bit of a
Draw strike so that’s not bad to start with into the wind okay pulled it a little bit but it was still pretty straight down the line and 194 carry lost significant yardage there now downwind with the driver again pretty smooth swing I’m not trying to
Kill it and we are seeing a boost in yardage there so not too bad with a 243 carry now wind right to left now I’ve got a little bit of a draw swing going on so we’re going to see how much it gets accentuated and that is a
Lot that goes out 45 yd and you can see I started that right of the center line and a slicers nightmare the left to right wind again this is a draw swing and I still pushed it out 21 yd to the right so there we go into the wind 33 yd
Short downwind I got 60 yards left to right and right to left again we’re missing Fairways because of that wind so we need to plan for that so there you have it folks win definitely has a difference in our game 20 yards left 20 yards right we’re 20 to 30 yards short
Maybe a little bit long but not as long as we think it really changes our shot shape and if we can plan around the course a little bit better when the breeze is blowing we’re going to be able to shoot better scores and have a little
Bit more fun I hope this tip helps please like And subscribe and we’ll see you next time on Greg’s golf Shack

Good vid. I love wind. The stronger the better, as long as it's not cold. Once you get in a mindset that it's actually fun to play in wind the frustration level disappears. You should set your wind at what we see on a "big wind" day.
