#1 Way To Fix Your Ball Striking FOR GOOD

#1 Way To Fix Your Ball Striking FOR GOOD

This was a fun lesson, and one which I think could help so many of you with your ball striking. I was helping Matty with his game on the golf course, he is a relatively new golfer and explained that he was struggling with his ball striking.

Watching a few swings I could see why. he was trying to get his weight forwards to help strike, but this was where the issues were arising, so I was able to give him a pretty simple sequence of drills that completely changed the way he swung the club and struck the golf ball.

With just a few rehearsals, some drills and some simple explanations he hit in his own words, ‘The best shot of his life’, into the 17th hole, fun to watch.

Hope you enjoy and as always just drop into the comments and let me know if you have any questions, I try my best to get back to everyone

  1. Thank you Chris, the sliding up the wall idea for driver might really help me. I think I’ve been shifting too much forward and skying the ball high as the driver slides under the ball. I was destroying tees for a bit until I figured out the problem. That was a clue. This swing thought should help, thanks!

  2. I'm a bit confused. There have been a lot of golf instructors on you tube, possibly even you, who have pointed out or shown that touring pros actually start moving pressure into their lead foot as early as half way back in there backswing. Certainly during their backswing and not on the way down. This video seems to contradict that concept…or like I said maybe Im confused and you can clarify. Because I've worked a lot on shifting pressure starting before transition at the top.

  3. Thanks Chris for the insightful iron striking tips for creating the proper ball compression effect upon impact. What would you recommend for correcting a severe slice? Would a shallow swing be an important factor? I seemed to be making some progress with a shallow swing, gripping down on the shaft for more control and simulating an effortless 9 iron shot…if that makes sense?

  4. great swing thought. potential future topics: difference in tee height for hybrid versus 5 wood/3 wood? why some people have positive angle of attack using 5 wood/3 wood off the tee while others have negative angle of attack off the tee for 5 wood/3 wood? bag set up with preferred gapping between longest iron to driver?

  5. Thank you for clarifying the difference between driver and irons. What should I do when I want to hit with my hybrids on the ground? Does this differ if I were to put them on a tee?

  6. Great video Chris and simple drill to work on. I feel as if I break the wall with my driver so need to practise sliding up the wall more to gain the right flight. Thanks.

  7. Hi Chris been watching your videos since i lived in Canada . I retired to France and i still enjoy your instruction. Especially your shoulder move to the wall in the iron striking downswing drill. Simple move simple thought great results. Keep up the good work !!!

  8. Chris – would lifting the lead heel in the backswing and slamming it down to start the downswing help to shift pressure to the trail side going back and into the lead side coming down?

  9. Thanks Chris, nice tutorial. Being a senior golfer I would like to know if lifting the lead heel on the backswing would assist in better body rotation and hence more power? A video on this would be very interesting.

  10. It seems to me a key question one has to ask one self is where is the sternum in relation to the ball at impact? If the sternum is behind the ball at impact with an iron, you will hit the ground before the ball. You want the position of the sternum to be ahead of the ball at impact for ball turf contact.

  11. Thanks Chris. Couldn’t agree more. I have the benefit of have the tee of a par 3 basically as my backyard so I see heaps of people teeing off at the home of PGA Australia (Sandhurst in Melbourne). I get to see some great shots however most are hitting as described and practice this before address so their chances of landing on the green is 1 in 1000. It’s not a cheap course and being the home of PGA the clubhouse is full of tech with some great couches. Never understood why peps spend money on good gear, yet would play better with a cheap set and spend the balance on learning. All show, no go I guess.

  12. Hi Chris, on another topic (my current set is basically Taylormade). P790 irons, mill grind 3 wedges, GT spider putter and I’ve finally upgraded my woods/rescue clubs to Stealth 2. My biggest problem with this particular driver is I can’t shape the direction as well as previously. I like it as distance has improved slightly, just can’t seem to draw or fade with any confidence. Any thoughts and advice? My natural shot is a baby draw and without radically altering swing path I’m finding that I’m playing safer with this particular driver. The head coach commented last weekend when I was paired with him in a competition that he also had the same issue when he first tested it and as a result it’s not in his bag.
