The two PGA tour players that were banned from the korn ferry tour for betting for 6 months have spoken out and broke their silence on the whole matter. Jake Staiano and Vince India have both broke their silence, but what have they said, how will this impact their future on the pga tour, will they continue they journey to get onto the PGA tour and what will this mean for sports betting and golf betting?
For me I thought this was stupidly HARSH but the PGA Tour decided to suspend TWO players on the PGA for violating the Integrity Program. This was with immediate affect and was announced in an in an emailed statement! The two PGA tour players on the PGA tour placed bets on PGA Tour competitions. Please make your own judgement as to whether you think this is too harsh?
PGA Tour Pros BANNED BY PGA TOUR FOR SIX MONTHS BREAK Their SILENCE!
There has been rumours of betting on other golf tours in the past including the pga tour, liv golf tour, dp world tour and in some of the golf majors including the masters, the open, the us open. Betting in sport is something that has become more popular but players are never seeming to get away with it, and rightly so, but are some of the punishments for these too harsh? I have not followed this very closely, but I thought the Tour had a rule against announcing the reason for disciplinary actions. Not a fan of their direction in recent years. Yes, rules are rules, but some logic would make the punishment more appropriately fit the crime. Seems a bit harsh to me.
Integrity and the PGA. Okay. They won’t enforce the slow play rules to anyone on tour that is a name player but will make sure they step on two not so well known Korn Ferry players. Like anyone needed to know about this. I get rules are rules but then you better make sure you enforce every rule.
Seems a little to harsh of a penalty for me. I get they broke the rules, but it was not so egregious to be banned.
U made good points in favor of the players in this case
So what if Phil Mickelson came out and named 10 or 20 big name PGA pros that he made bets with over the years?
The US doesnt want its athletes betting on their sports & have penalized those who have harshly because (1) their current/future partnerships with the sportsbooks & therefore assumption of collusion if allowed to place bets and (2) essentially preventing insider trading where players, coaches, trainers, sponsors, caddies, etc might be privy to exclusive info such as injuries/sickness or other things that could impact play or decisions along with the sharing of that information to only certain individuals/bettors
First of all, that rule is stupid, second, the rule should be, you can not bet on an event you are partipating in. Why would the pga ban something that is not illegal.
Smh…. Professional Golf attempting to govern the personal behavior of Indi contractors is a death sentence for Professional Golf. YOU HEARD IT HERE !!
Our entire sport is gambling, and every single player has violated this rule. Did they bet on the PGA Tour, maybe not. But maybe. If I invest in a player's career, I bet on them. The PGA Tour had its chance to avoid all of this with PED's, but they blew it.
Are the Captains/owners of LIV golf teams not betting on Golf ?
Funny thing is the sports betting companies probably can support them.
Maybe the punishments are a bit harsh but if not mistaken they were both given some leniency.
I mean it’s pretty simple: don’t bet on golf. Even they seem to think the punishment is fair.
I think the Tour is trying to send a strong message, which i agree with. As a pro golfer bet on other things..betting golf makes it seem
Fishy…at least for now while the IS adjusts to sports betting.
Last thing the Tour or golf needs right now is a gambling controversy.
I believe that it is a stupid rule, it may needs to be real written. Allowing betting, where are you not playing, or have any influence in.
Laughable reaction from the PGA especially when you consider the nature of the game itself , Nothing official about it or did they receive some world ranking points for this match 🙂
The ban is daft. Get a life! 😀😀 Enjoy your round and hopefully it’s not raining 👍
The match is a non sanctioned event, pro golfers bet everytime they play non sanctioned practice rounds, this was a witch hunt
Ok if that’s the rule then fair enough.
But think the rule is a bit harsh. It’s not like they were even betting on something they were competing in. A warning/fine would have been more appropriate I think.
