Team TaylorMade’s Tiger Woods had a video go viral earlier this year with Scottie Scheffler talk about how when he’s striping it, he doesn’t take a divot. And he was serious, he was so wide on the take away and wide on the followthrough that when he was picking it clean, he doesn’t take a divot. #shorts

  1. My natural shot is a draw and I take large divots with my wedges and 9 iron. My hybrid 8 through 2, I take increasingly more shallow divots.

  2. I mean, it’s common sense if you hit the ground, you’re not hitting the ball flush. People start using common sense.

  3. I was convinced he was messing with him.. because videos of tiger in the 2000s he’s taking up turf like a back hoe

  4. everyone got so mad at people who knew because we asked you to do some digging yourselves. you can't always have the answers served to you on a platter, learning about the physics of the golf swing on your way to understanding what was being said makes you a better player in the long run.

  5. Darren Clarke backs this up with his story about the turf not having a mark on it after Tiger was next to him on the range back in the day

  6. He's referring to divots before the ball I believe. I'm the same, if I'm flushing it I hit ball first every time

  7. I swear Scottie's look at Tiger after Tiger says "it just is what it is.." is the look of "damn, I will never be as good as you." LOL

  8. This kinda ruins the mystery of the original video. I liked whether we didn't know if Tiger was just BSing Scottie to get in his head.

  9. It’s pretty rare to see a world number 1 looking at another player with such an admiration in his face. It’s almost like ‘if you poop while standing, i wanna do the same’ kindda look.

  10. Plenty of great players are just barely “scrapers” of the ground, especially with middle and long irons. Once watched Adam Scott on the range hitting middle and long irons and it was eye opening. He wasn’t taking pork chops, or even bacon strips. Just hardly bruising the grass. And if you watch any LPGA golf, some of them pick it clean and still compress the ball nicely. Not coincidently, most of them draw the ball. About the worst thing anyone can say to a bogey golfer is “you have to hit down on the ball and take a divot to compress the ball.” Because they will be so steep, chopping wood, hitting nothing but glancing blows.

In the men’s game, the draw as a go to shot has definitely been replaced by faders. Some that move it so much left to right, it almost can’t even be classified a fade. So you’re not gonna see the polite scrapers of the ground much any more. Sort of a lost art.
