Lexi Thompson will tee it up this week on the PGA TOUR alongside the men at the Shriner Childrens Open under a sponsors exemption. She will only be the 7th woman to play in a men’s event with the likes of Michelle Wie and Babe Didrikson Zaharias.
Peter Malnati, a veteran PGA TOUR pro, and director on the Player’s Board came out and called the move a “gimmick.” Malnati later backed down from this statement after realizing the message was not well received.
