  1. Great vlog Pete.
I bought a £170 wilson, NEW, couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo, draw biased to help my slice but no good.
Sold it to my mate, he cut an inch off the length, I borrowed it for 3 holes, hit the fairway each time…..
Ended up buying it back for £40 more than I sold it to him…..
I can't justify paying £450-£500+ but back to the launchpad and going great….😅😅

  2. Just done exactly this…went and bought a brand new Ping G410 on sale for 260 euro .. absolutely smashing it down the middle.. absolutely no need to go for the 425 or 430…. especially with driver I think two models back brand new (not second hand) is the sweet spot

  3. I went from having a callaway razor 2012 bought in 2015 (150 bucks) to a TM M2 2017 w HZRDUS stiff shaft in 2021 (175). love the upgrade and love saving money by shopping smart. Watched one of your videos to get the idea of getting a M2. Thanks for these tips!!

  4. Agree 100%…you would be much better off spending 200 of coaching before spending 500 on a new driver…alls that is different in the last 10 years is adjustability…the ping G10 is still one of the best drivers out there it just doesn't have a changeable neck or a movable weight but in reality should you be moving weight around at all or improving your swing…time to bin the big companies ramming new clubs down our throats with big price tags and time to start giving your local PGA professional the money they deserve…

  5. Warranties are better then you suggest in your video. I had success getting a warranty claim on a Sim driver with a cracked face earlier this year even though I submitted a claim telling them it was second hand. And now I have a stealth+ as a replacement.

  6. Shaft is everything, I’m convinced the biggest difference between modern heads is the stock shafts, not the head itself.

  7. I'll have to re-watch thos down the road. I'm just not good enough to even consider a new driver yet. Tried my friend's old driver, which is still better than my cheap clubs, but it showed me that I could expect better performance. I'm going to wait until I'm more comfortable with my swing and reward myself later.

  8. Nice one Lester, as a regular listener and watcher it was fairly obvious how the dynamics worked between you and DH , but at least it’s now clear for all . Looking forward to watching the Golf National vlogs , keep it going and onwards and upwards.

  9. I always buy second hand. Currently playing a TM SIM 10.5, with a mint Tour AD shaft. Cost me £250…This was a £700+ club 3 years ago. I love it and have no plans to change. Particularly when I hear all the horror stories about the new Stealth face issues.

  10. My son is playing with a 10 year old driver. He can bomb that ball, on the occasions he hits it well. So yeah, most of it is swing. For his irons he did benefit from a new set of jpx 923 hot metals. Now need to get him a new hybrid, the one he has now are almost 20 years old.

  11. Great Video Pete all so true, I recently purchased the Ping G430 with a fitting and the setup helped reduce my fade (Slice) by lowering the spin rate this was mostly achieved by the shaft and change of loft for me, however a golf lesson made me start hitting a draw 🙂

  12. buying the ping 430 lst this year was definitely worth it considering it outperformed every single earlier model, and as a 3 hdc with 115 mph clubhead speed but a high spinrate of over 3k with normal drivers, there is no way i would have bought a later version and felt like i missed out. This driver which i thankfully got over connections at a bargain, i will likely play for the next 10 years

  13. I been gaming the cobra speedzone for 3 seasons now ….wanted the f9 when it came out ….seemed at time it was all over YouTube golfer's bags and it is a great driver …but by time I had the extra cash to buy I found a really good deal on the speedzone 299.99 ….but since I have had a custom shaft built for me half inch longer than 3 wood and carbon fiber weave etc.etc. ….so now I just buy a driver head that fits this shaft …..just ordered a new ltdx still in plastic wrapper for 212 dollars to my front door …..yes its an older model but i hit one liked it a lot ….so I bought one …..who knows may buy an aerojet next season ….but the days of giving 700 dollars plus for new driver are over for this golfer ….just can't see the reason to spend the extra cash to have the latest and greatest as they say …..

  14. The forgiveness aspect ia what led me to my current driver, a 2016 callaway big bertha fusion… its about the most forgiving club callaway has ever made… it also helped that i found the head for $40 second hand, and had a stiff matrix ozik 7×3 shaft floating around that would fit my swing well… took the gamble and was instantly rewarded with 280yd pretty much every swing, down the middle…. would a newer club give me mor distance? Maybe…. but could it do it dang near every time? Probably not….

  15. I have a TM SIM 9°. I tried a Stealth when it came out and gained nothing, no extra distance. When Stealth 2 came out i tried that, average over the SIM was 6 yards extra. £550 for the plus version. My point is generally there isnt any point buying a new driver as it gives most people nothing. Obviously if you presently have say an older club you will see big gains with the new kit on offer, but its gonna cost ya

  16. I hit the Wilson a while back. For me it hit a far as the Paradym. My dispersion was better with the Paradym was the only difference. Wilson did a great job on this one.

  17. Even if I had to change my clubs to get irons fitted, for the price of a new driver (600€) I took 10h of training courses with a good teacher and went from 25-35 to 13-18. In golf (in life in general) 90% of your problems is you ! As well as the solutions !!   I may add that everybody talks of the head of clubs whereas a good shaft, tailored to your needs, is much more important.

  18. my old driver has a bent steel shaft (in two places), two cracks in the head (top and sole) and a loose shaft extension moving around in the grip. a new driver has 100% helped my game

  19. Get the most expensive club out there even if u cant hit for shit u will look the bollocks either way 😂😂😂👍ps still got my taylormade rac from 20 yrs ago ✌

  20. I always go second hand, £130 on eBay for Cobra F9 with Hazardus black S shaft, I’ve never hit anything so far…regularly close to 300y drives in dry conditions! 🙂

  21. Can’t wait to go spend a rainy day hitting 50 different used drivers in the pga superstore bay.

  22. I got the Cobra LTDx in 2022. For me, couldn’t be happier. I finally found out what 2nd shots from the fairway feels like.

  23. This seems to be a great driver for everyone. The adjustability and the shorter shaft seems like a great combination

  24. I can relate to this video so much!

Just bought a RBZ driver (2012?) At a yard sale and replaced my old R5.

The shaft was about an inch longer, and my slice disappeared, and I am banging the back net at the range(250).

Going from free to $15 made a world of difference. But a $500 dollar driver probably wouldn't be much better for the level of player that I am. And the $485 would be better spent on lessons, range balls, and games.

  25. Years ago I went into a major golf store and wanted to get fitted for new irons. At the time I was an 18 hcp and the salesman lead to the high end brands and said this is what all the tour pros were playing. I said thanks and walked out and went to the competition where I got fitted for the Ping G20's.

  26. Golf clubs are like guitars. Anyone great will be great with any gear. The reverse is also true. I play with a friend who still plays with old ping maple woods and 25 year old Callaway irons. Still a 2 handicap in his late 50's.

  27. Still playing a TM M3(8-9*), adjustability and range time get me where I want. Haven't played as much as I like; but there is a good reason Tiger says it's all feeling in the hands, I've gone from slice to fade to hook based on my grip and have learned a metric ton. I play two iron sets and both are Nike blades, VR pros and Vapor pros; warm weather vs cold. None of these clubs are easy to hit but will make me a better golfer😊

  28. Around 97/98 my Lee Trevino persimmon was falling apart. Picked up a used Taylor Made Burner driver, steel shaft and 9.5 loft (great for links golf). Liked it so much bought 3 wood and iron set (new). Still play them today. Most people think the driver is a 3 wood😂

  29. Isn't "performance" a relative term? Each model is compared to their contemporaries. Is a "100%" club 5 years ago a 100% club verses new products?
