Eldirck Tont (“Tiger”) Woods (born December 30, 1975) is a professional golfer who first gained public attention in 1978 by putting against Bob Hope on The Mike Douglas Show. He grew up in Orange County, California, the son of Earl and Kultida Woods. He married Swedish model Elin Nordegren in October of 2004, but divorced in August 2010 after a very public infidelity scandal. They had one child together, Sam Alexis Woods, who was born in 2007.
Tiger has been a dominant force in professional golf for many years since turning pro in 1996. He has over 100 wins, including 79 on the PGA tour and 40 on the European tour. He has won the Masters 4 times, the PGA Championship 4 times, the US Open 3 times, and The Open Championship (British Open) 3 times. He is the only player to have won all four of these majors in a row (known now as the Tiger Slam), which he did in 2000-2001. Woods has been inducted into the California Hall of Fame (December 2007), and was named the Associated Press Athlete of the Decade in 2009. He has been the AP’s Male Athlete of the Year four times and has been Sports Illustrated’s Sportsman of the Year more than one – the only person to have ever done so. He established the TIger Woods Foundation in 1996 to promote golf among inner-city children.
In 2013, Tiger Woods was the highest paid athlete according to Forbes magazine, earning $78.1 million dollars in prize money, endorsements, appearance fees, and golf course design work. By 2014, he had dropped to #6 with total earnings of $61.2 million. Forbes currently has Tiger listed at #9, with earnings of $50.6 million; given his reduced competition schedule in 2017, this is not surprising. TheRichest.com has estimated Woods’ net worth at $640 million
