Poor At Palace – Talking Wolves Podcast

  1. I think we were good for the first half, but the attacking is embarrassing.

Slow, predictable crosses into nobody or a shot that deflects over the bar

  2. We needed enso and Bellegarde for the element of unpredictability, Neto is waaaayyyy to predictable and should work on his decision making, and should wip in more crosses, but I hope they play cunha and kalajdzic as that can work, I do think a 3-5-2 is better for the style of football O'Neil is playing.

  3. I thought we were good in the first half, dominant in fact…. we’re still lacking that “KILLER INSTINCT” though and its a real worry. I felt we were sloppy in the second half, passing was just lazy and woeful and there was a softness about us that doesnt bode well. Palace weren’t good at all, so its a bad result all in all. Will be interesting to see when he drops the new guys in just how well they adapt to the PL. I’d have liked to see Doherty on at some point as I feel he can offer something when Semedo is sometimes lacking – Give him 20-30 minutes at least.

  4. Only wolves would leave out a player who’s scored twice the previous game from full back when are the powers that be going to notice semedo isn’t really a defender kilman is worryingly getting so ponderous Dawson is possibly half a yard too slow ait Nouri is so erratic when in defence ! in my opinion you haven’t got a prayer when trying to survive in the premier league with a defence like this and not forgetting Sa whose liable to Chuck one in at anytime the palace game we scored two yet still managed to lose urgent surgery is required

  5. Dave harry fin I feel we have gone backwards a few years sorry guys my view poor window why did forsun not put money up front to help gon knowing money from man city was on way

  6. Dave the players whose job is to defend are not up to it that’s obvious

  7. We were going forwards nicely with lop and to move on we needed better tech players but Jeff shi bugger that up dave

  8. There was no creativity going forward and the defence was shameful , the second and third goals were just embarrassing.

  9. Chan is always poor when given a full match, but he does have a knack of world class tap ins, recent shoulder goal exempt. Will always get injured, move him on asap

  10. Can anyone tell me why Kilman feels the need to suddenly step into CM and totally hash a tackle only to leave us wide open at least once every game??

  11. Was it totally Sa's fault? I'm just asking the question because it seems to me Kilman played him into trouble a bit to begin with and then there wasn't an obvious pass off he could make anyway. Don't get me wrong, Sa is crap with the ball at his feet, but I also think the whole defence just can't play the ball around comfortably at the back because there aren't enough options and then they start panicking a bit. Not sure what the answer is because just hoofing it forward isn't great either. But perhaps they need to work on finding space around their own box. Thanks for the podcast. Great to see Harry brought in as a very solid reserve!

  12. Semedo's booking was unbelievably soft. Totally accidental and the winger was going nowhere. RAN's booking was also a bit strange. Reacting to what looked like a foul, I thought he did far less than Ayew who fouled him and clearly pushed him in the throat. So yes it was annoying to have both fullbacks on a booking quite early. Not that any of that really explains Semedo's lack of commitment in closing down the cross for the first goal (he stands off way too much sometimes) or RAN's general lack of ability to defend. I'd much rather play Bueno tbh.

  13. Harry Kane stopped training at Spurs when he wanted a move. Riyad Mahrez stopped training at Leicester when he wanted a move. Matheus Nunes stopped training when he wanted a move. And which club were they all seeking a move to? Coincidence…?

  14. You can't keep using the excuse of silver being young he's definitely got a footballers brain but he's got no pace and he's first touch is terrible.

  15. Gary is in a difficult position, having joined a couple days before the season start. I think our issues go beyond just a manager, not a lot has changed over the past couple years and three managers. If we did get rid of Gary who would we get to fill the position, ChatGPT? Also 13 away on international duties isn't going to help with building the team up in the next fortnight. Hopefully he uses the Liverpool fixture as a zero sum game, and goes for an opportunity to change things up and have some different faces in the team and go on the offence.

  16. I’d like to see Fraser at least on the bench against Liverpool I know he’s young but so is Evan Ferguson and look at him. Fair enough if our strikers were on fire but non of them are and with sasa still taking it steady after injury I’d love to see Fraser get some minutes. There’s way more promising signing with Fraser than Fabio

  17. I’m not Gary O’Neil out but we must beat luton anything less I think we’ll all be O’Neil out tbf

  18. Lads , was at palace Sunday , to be honest I thought we were not that bad , for 60 mins , sarabia is about as much use as a one legged man in a arse kicking contest out wide , play him as a ten or behind the strikers , we lack creativity, so give him a go . Agree about the defending, bloody awful .

  19. Sasa can offer us more that just an aerial threat, he’s got decent feet and we can utilise that for our link up play. When we get into the final third, we need to be better at recycling the ball if there isn’t a decent chance. All to often it ends up in hit an hopes rather than looking for exploit a weakness.

  20. I totally agree that the Boubacar-Fabio subsitution derailed us and handed the game to Palace. I do think it was a mis-step by Gary. We had been fortunate to grab an equaliser and should have tried to impose ourselves on the game for 10-15 mins straight after scoring to test Palace's resolve, but instead we immediately went into a shell as though the end of the game was imminent. I thought Mario Lemina was our best performer overall in a pretty lame team showing. I hate the mid-season breaks, having no interest in international football, but at least it gives the new signings a chance to bed in.

I'm a little sad that we didn't get the Salernitana striker, but looking forward to seeing what Bellegarde can offer. I have to admit that I was a bit hoping that we would sell Kilman for a fortune to Napoli – although Maximillian does have excellent games for us, he can also look pretty vulnerable and lacking in confidence in matches. Making him captain is a bit like giving Fabio the No.9 shirt – both decisions seem to have been done in hope, rather than expectation, as though wishing hard were a way of making things come true.

I don't really understand how the Daniel Podence issue went so bad so quickly. Podence would have continued to be a strong player in our squad this season particularly if he, Cunha and Silva developed some intricate, snappy, short-pass interplay routines, which would have played to all their strengths. No way are any of the trio "fight for and make something out of a high ball pumped aimlessly into the box" forwards. Kalajdzic is our go to man for that more basic and desperate option, when a different approach is needed in the last half-hour of matches in which we are struggling to make an impact. I guess Podence has been at fault for his relationship with the club going sour, but it seems really weird and regretful.

I'm happy that Gary O'Neill was appointed so quickly. He's a likeable manager and we fans must be prepared to cut him slack at least until Christmas. We could have been in complete meltdown had we remained managerless until now after Lopetegui disgustingly walked out on the eve of a new season. As it is O'Neill has stablised the ship and though our current 15th position is underwhelming, it is also just within the range (12th to 15th) at which I expected us to finish this season.

  21. Enjoyed the pod as always Dave. Many thanks. Feel like I'm falling out of love with football now. Just sick of yellow cards for nothing now, poor refereeing, VAR, . The players are as much to blame rolling around (Ayew). Detest him. Is it me? Or am I just turning into a grumpy ol man like me Dad did 😂
