Do you want to learn how to hit the golf ball straight? I would think so. Here is a simple thought that I had many years ago that took me from hitting it sideways to straight.

If you have been learning how to hit the golf ball straight what have you done in the past? I bet you have been trying to square the face at impact. Seems logical right? The problem is, you twist the clubface just a few degrees and you will hit the ball everywhere. I tick on a clock is 6 degrees. You don’t have 6 degrees. With driver you have 1-3 degree based the less error the farther you hit it. With irons you would have more room for error. So if you are trying to square the face just by squaring the face that will never work.

Here is the thought I figured out many years ago that taught me how to hit a golf ball straight. It’s simple and works very well. Watch this tip and get the mental image of what I did then try it yourself and see if it helps you hit the ball straight like it did for me.

  1. So you can draw a line from where you hit the ball and it doesn’t move left or right 1%. Nobody can do that.

  2. Thanks Paul. I love the simplicity of this as it’s all about feel and removing the desire to control with the arms which is lethal. Find it so hard to maintain this discipline when I hit stray shots on the course. All the best

  3. Paul you're the best ! Simple is key. Let's enjoy the game!! Ps. Your 10 year journey of discovery sure makes me feel better. Thanks for sharing !😅

  4. Oh gosh. One of your best videos! I need to play this before every shot! Hahaha(my partners would shoot me!)

  5. I really like this tip Paul. As you said when you set up stretch out your lead arm with a square clubface. This is crucial because as you have stated before when you unwind with your knees and hips centrifugal force will stretch out your arms, and since you have already stretched out your lead arm at address with a square clubface you have already given yourself a pretty good chance of having a square clubface at impact. I can't wait to try this out at the range and have this as my key swing thought just before starting my takeaway.

  6. Thanks Paul
So from top of the backswing one should fire the hips and let the arms swing through the ball to the target without any manipulation

  7. I added in more "wrist compression" the last few days. Something you've teached on occasion. Made a big difference for loose wrists, hinge and re-hinge, and ball speed increased.

  8. I bought the program, it is really helping! I would love to understand under 100 yard approach shots and how it applies to the swing

  9. I agree with your body swing, but does this ever happen to you? This happens very fast since the downswing is so fast but once in awhile it feels like my arms are too far behind and I panic and my hands go after the ball trying to save the shot but ruining the shot in most cases. What could be happening here?

  10. OMG, Paul totally has it right. After having watched his videos and practicing, so long as I have my grip set correctly, I just swing easy and through and the ball goes perfectly straight. All my pulls or pushes are simply because I didn't turn my shoulders or finish the full swing. If I do, it goes perfectly straight every single time.

  11. It seems like your timing is perfect, meaning your wrist are very active, which is my problem flipping too far from inside, I'm assuming you hit draws more than fades, and snap hook when you miss? Need drills to stop flipping and being more ball then divot through compress ball versus picking it thin or fat and flipping wrist immediately after.. Thanks

  12. Thanks Paul..it's all starting to come together using your method. I still struggle with firing the hips a little fast and keeping the arms dead..

  13. This tip is an awesome one, AGAIN, Paul. Combo this with your 50 % tip and you have a solid base for sweet contact that doesn't have you coming out of your shoes. Thanks !!

  14. I think you are a great instructor but I always get the impression that you feel like the average golfer is a total idiot. It’s like you talk down to us. Just something to think about.

  15. Lets see if i can ask this right. In either your backswing and/or downswing when club is parallel with ground is right arm straight out parallel with ground also or is it bent by your side?

  16. Turning my arms off i feel like im getting speed by rhythmically pushing against the ground with feet and legs to drive the speed of the club.

  17. Best tips on the Tube!

Quick question, Paul, since I started this year I bought starter clubs but turns out they’re 2.5” too short for me (using WTF measurements) do you have any advice to make them longer or a strategy for finding a pair that I can shorten or something like that?

Just trying to make sure the wife doesn’t get me in my sleep for paying $350 for some Nike Vapor Pros. 😂

  18. Yes. Feeling the weight of the club automatically makes you do several things well. A good way to get this feel is to grab your 3 longest irons, and swing them back n forth, full swings. All of that extra weight will make you naturally apply the brakes with your right leg, on the backswing, and then naturally apply the brakes with your left leg through impact. You’ll literally HAVE to do this to maintain perfect balance. You’ll also notice that your hips, and shoulders will have to turn properly because of the extra weight, and momentum. The final thing this does is keep you perfectly on plane. It’s impossible to swing all of that weight from a full backswing to a full finish, and then back to a full backswing without being on plane. Now, just grab 1 club, and repeat that effortless swing. You’re gonna love the results.

  19. Paul, i want to say i was as close as a natural golfer as they come. Started when i was 13 and hit the ball straight. Got lessons and started “playing golf” when i finished high school golf i took 2 years off from golf, came back and struggled with certain “feels”. You by far helped me the most in my game with your teachings. I shoot way better then I did in high school due to your teachings. The Arms need to die to hit it straight. I know exactly what i do when i pull it left, i brought my arms in and was stiff. Then i know how to fix it, really amazing.
