#golfgrip #gripthickness #griptest

I test a standard golf grip thickness against a midsize grip thickness to see how thickness can affect golf ball flight and shot direction. The results are interesting and can make a huge difference to hitting more fairways and greens.

  1. Longtime CP2 Jumbo w/3 wraps. Yes, I play w/o glove in large part due to unavailability of large enough glove. XXL is too small, I cannot bent fingers, especially thumb. I recently switched to that CPX, same Jumbo w/3 wraps. Fantastic grip, just slightly firmer than CP2 allowing better feel & feedback but the new texture maintains same level grip w/o increasing grip pressure.

  2. Literally played my first round today w/an oversized grip on my driver. I'd started hitting the occasional SURPRISE!hook as I recently changing my AOA. Older golfers like me were taught to hit down but with 30 extra yards out there… Anyways, I laced it all day long with the miss being a 10 yard fade. Some say a bigger grip is a bandaid for a swing flaw. Those ppl can keep working on their swings while keep hitting bombs. 😂

  3. 15-20$ spending for a massive improvement – no brainer to try! Moved from standard size grip to Midsize and heavier shaft in my 3w, huge gains.

  4. I have small/medium sized hands but changed to midsize grips about 3 years ago. I find I don't grip the club as tight as I used to and therefore a more relaxed swing. My accuracy has improved quite significantly.

  5. Changed to mcc+4 midsize last year since I'm getting older and I feel like I have to grip much harder to get contact on regular grips. I do love the +4 that are wider all the way. Makes it easier to grip down when needed.

  6. You needed to go right size grip for you vs larger grip size. Not a grip that is too small for your hands. No one would ever test that.

  7. Testing out the Jumbomax ultralight str8 grips in XS (I wear med-Lrg glove).
Put them on Driver, 8i, & LW. Love the control & consistency I get on the LW and 8i.
    Driver I’m still testing.
Takes some getting used to but feels really good and natural once you do. Most likely will change out all my irons and wedges.

  8. Grip weight will also make a difference as heavier grip will effectively counterbalance the club…..I learn’t with a putter when changed the grip on my Del Mar from the Stock to the scotty pistol grip, the heavier grip trew out the balance of the putter; less feel in the head. Added some 20g weights and problem solved. Expect a thicker and heavier grip will have the same affect on ability to feel the club head.

  9. Hiya dude, luvin’ the content……
But when listening on a device with multi channels your talking only comes out the left channel….🤔

  10. How did the grip size change swing weight? It would have lightened it, so was that also a factor in the results?

  11. On the money. Just switched to midsize mcc+4 +1 wrap of tape from standard +2 wraps of tape and wish I’d done it years ago. Much more relaxed, better release, gentler shot shapes, and less physical stress 😘👍. Also worth noting dropped 2 swing weights and more of a counter balanced, lighter feel, but so far no complaints. I’m only seeing benefits 😀

  12. I've moved my driver and wedges to the jumbo cpx. What a difference. Find it so much easier to hit both. But didn't move my irons or hybrids over as didn't like them on them. Strange

  13. Have midsize on my irons and wedges. Playing standard on driver and woods. Just scared to change them out to midsize

  14. It would have been more interesting to see you try a max size grip as well on the other side of the spectrum. Maybe a test for the future.

  15. I have midsize on my driver, woods, and wedges. My irons have standard size. I just hit them straighter. 🤷

  16. Does the additional weight in the midsized grip effect the weight of the club??

I recently dropped from a 70g stiff to a 60g stiff to gain some swing speed and then put a midsized grip on the lighter shaft and in turn it actually felt heavier to swing than the 70g shaft!! 🤷🤷🤷

  17. i ordered grips from amazon and they sent me mid size by mistake…i decided to go with them and they have changed my game for the better! I also have tiny man hands and i still get better results

  18. I tried these on my woods and hybrids and had the best driving rounds of my life. Irons and wedges have now been re-gripped as well

  19. Changed to midsize grips (plus 4 layers of tape) years ago to help reduce hand and wrist pain, it fixed it first round 👍

  20. I have played with standard size with 1 full paper and a second paper on the bottoms hand for over 20 years. I have had 2 sets in the last 4 years with MCC 4+ and simply struggled and have moved back to my 20 years setup……I found it difficult to release properly with midsize. Clearly everyone is different just a matter of finding what works for the individual.

  21. Michael you mention that you have big paws which I do not doubt. Just how big are they? If you measure using NFL standards (tip of the thumb to tip of the small finger) what do you measure? I measure 24cm. I typically use a standard grip but recently put a medium grip on a club and it feels great. Give us a point of reference. I hate to depend on feel for something like this and my $3,000 launch monitor is on the blink. 🙂

  22. Hey Michael. Grip thickness is huge. My hands measure on charts to need a standard grip or maybe a tad smaller. But,,,,,when I grip the club with midsize those two fingers that you want to be lightly touching your palm are doing just that. So the charts are actually wrong. Bet thats messed up many a golfer. The mid size is not only more comfortable but yield better results by far. Golfers are definitely not all the same 🙂 . I put on the Golf Pride CP2 wrap grips in mid size. Love em. !!! They seem to help my hands turn over just the right amount perhaps. Sad thing is many golfers never think about grip size and the right size can definitely make you more consistent as it has with me. Best wishes from Manchester, Connecticut.

  23. I tried midsize Tour Velvet grips but didn't feel like they fit my smaller hands very well. Switched to the Tour Velvet standard +4 grips and really like the feel and performance.

  24. I play mid size and happy with them . I’m a plasterer and my right hand can often take over and I get a big pull left , in theory could a few raps around the lower part of the drip help quite my right hand a bit , ? Or maybe try plus 4 grips ?
Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

  25. It would be interesting to know how different grips affect the swing weight, a midsize could be significant heavier

  26. Between the midsize crossline lamkin and the midsize tour velvet golfpride I think there is 20g difference, does it change the DW?

  27. Been using Golf Pride MCC+4 mid-size grips for a long time now and can't imagine going back to standard size grips ever.
May even choose to experiment with jumbo size grips at some point.
One key issue to bear in mind, however, is that different grips from different manufacturers will have different weights, which can affect your golf club's swing weight.
Dri-Tac grips tend to be much lighter in weight as compared to Golf Pride MCC+4 grips, so a 10-gram difference in weight can make your driver's club head feel much heavier (or lighter if you are going from Golf Pride to Dri-Tac), and that would also apply to any club head in your bag.
Swing weights are extremely important to notice and nail down in terms of what works best for you.

  28. For this test to be more valid and realistic you should have also used a larger grip (because you already play a mid-size) along with the smaller grip. That way the results would show if you played a larger grip how it would impact your game vs what you are already comfortable playing. Basically watching this episode was a waste of time….sorry.

  29. I have small glove hands and the tour velvet +4 midsize grips work best. I'm 67 and have lost some strength in my hands. The midsize works since my finger tips just touch the meat of my hands and I don't have to squeeze to hold on. My shots are stronger and I hit the center of the face better. More fluid swing for sure.

  30. You’ve got a stunning, super fluid driver swing bud. You can always tell when someone has a pro swing, it looks fluid, almost slow-like but the finish is balanced and the ball speed is 150 plus

  31. I have large hands and have played with both midsize and standard in competition and have noticed that the standard grips provide much more workability and feel.. that being said a midsize can be effective for taking one side out of play by having less hand rotation and release.. I ended up taking all my midsize grips off and went back to standard

  32. What a load of garage! Sure grip size may make a difference, but hitting 5 or 6 balls tells you nothing. Plus, you already have a bias. Worthless and a waste of my time.

  33. Did you check the swingweight? I am sure it was different. Just make sure that the grip weights are the same. If not then the swing weight will be different.
