Hi I’m Matt Lockey, welcome to my Coach Lockey YouTube Channel. This YouTube channel is designed to help you play better golf, and to help you enjoy your golf more!

I specialise in golf course vlogs, golf challenges, golf tips, golf lessons, golf club reviews and the odd golf club unboxing. So pretty much everything golf!

I want to help you play better golf by providing coaching videos on all topics about golf. How to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
As well as helping you produce the best long game you can have, I will help you lower your scores by chipping better, stopping duff and thin chips, pitching the ball closer and creating backspin like the tour pros. Finally, I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts too!

If you enjoy the channel make sure you hit subscribe and also tap the notification bell so that you are always notified when I release a new video.

  1. Does the more spin tee hight make your shapes exaggerated? I was teeing like you did for your low and My miss was right not a slice more like a fade but between a slice and fade. I started teeing it up higher and I'm hitting straight and the miss is more of a fade.

  2. not sure what the title has to do with the video??. Good one though. But I can lose a ball whether I draw it or fade it. When you hit it long all you have to do is be a few degrees off perfect and you can be screwed. So how about one where you address the title of this video.

  3. I have a problem where I hit the ball too far, but with an inconsistent strike. I have a par 3 at my course, it is 150 yards, and has thick bushes 20 yards long of the green. I carried my 9 iron deep into them bushes last week with a centre strike, in the UK winter. I have hit wedge into the middle of the same green, but as I struggle to consistently find the centre of the club, I really struggle to gap my yardages.

I lose balls off the tee as I drive it long. My friend come up short of the trees but not me lol. It is very much a gift and a curse.

  4. Cheers again coach. I have a slower swing speed so a high tee doesn’t really work for me. But useful stuff all the same.

  5. Happened this Sunday. Changes from a White Castle to a Pink Castle – massive difference. Best I have driven the ball for years.

  6. Great tips coach tee height is something that the majority of amateur golfers don’t experiment with enough thanks for the reminder, cheers 👍

  7. I tee it up low, too high and I hit it too high ballooning a spinny ball that just falls out of the sky. Nothing like my downward attack angle Brah! lol😂

  8. My driver is the BANE of my golf game, and I can NOT tee my ball high on a tee and hit the ball, I will SKY that Ball and put an IDIOT mark on my $500 driver, pissing me off to NO END.
I have played golf for 48 years now and I have always kept the lower ball tee height because of the smaller-headed drivers and I have always kept the lower swing path close to the ground, feel more comfortable with that, So I guess I will never have the ability of this advice, even if I hover the club at the higher ball height and I will still chop the tee and sky the ball.

  9. Yea, I prefer a higher tee, as my average ball speed goes up. I'll keep the lower tee height in mind when I want to fade it.

  10. Tee it high with the driver and hover the club slightly seems to work well for me. Thanks for the great easy to follow info.

  11. awesome video…
Locks, can you do a vid on those of us who are struggling with blocks and hooks? Stuck, dumped under, too far from the inside…etc

  12. Nice one Coach! I like teeing it up to get that nice bomb launch and low spin myself! Not like I’m super long or anything so I need all that I can get bruh!!! That being said, if I got trouble up the left…I would definitely think twice about that move. LOL

  13. This is really counterintuitive for me and a lesson learned. I'd always assumed that teeing it up higher meant that I'd be imparting more backspin, exaggerating any fade or draw on the ball, sending it higher and shorter.

Clearly not – what do I know?!

  14. If only it were that easy, there is much more to longer driver consistency than how high or low the tee is placed in the ground, definitely higher is better overall

  15. Simple and effective! If you are coming to Bunkered Live at the NEC this month, please visit the England and Wales Blind Golf stand and take the Blind Putting Challenge. We would love to see you.

  16. Thanks for that easy tip Coach. I use the orange tee as a rule, it's just my club speed I need to up now. Thanks.

  17. As a lefty when I tee the ball high with a driver, I tend to hook to the right. I'm using a neutral grip and the ball is a ball width inside my lead instep. Any thoughts?

  18. Hit Tee for me,promotes consistency with sweetspot strikes pretty much all the time, good launch as well…with a higher tee you catch the ball in the middle of the face on your way up which results in longer distances and solid strikes.

  19. This was interesting, as someone coming back to the game in the last two years, previous thoughts on driver and 3W were to sweep the ball away.
I always struggled with driver as an over the top swing as such slice would be the result.
3W I would use the rules castle tee, and a blue for the driver.
Lessons the other year, 3W dropped to the green 3 mm castle tee, driver aiming for white or higher.
I have persevered with the driver on the range and am up to the pink castle tee as the ball is 50% above the driver top edge. 50% of the time I leave the ball in the ground after the shot so no longer a descending blow
I’ll definitely be using club face spray to see where I’m impacting the ball more, as have seen too high spin numbers which will kill distance

  20. Assuming those tees were built for different reasons. What club or conditions were the white lower tees intended for? Is it just in windy conditions?

  21. Really interesting. Just got fitted with a new driver and the pro suggested I tee down (was using orange castle tee) Out on the course and my old left to right fade/slice returned. On the last driving hole I returned to the bigger tee and it went straight down the middle……now I know why …thanks

  22. It's interesting that you've made this vid. About 6 months ago I found a pink, castle tee at my course. Normally I wouldn't use such a thing, and could always use a regular tee. Got in a bind and that was the only tee I had, so I used it. Was quite surprised at the ball performance. After a few drives I was hooked on those tees. Since switching to them, I feel my drives are longer, and I can continue to shape the ball better. So you can teach an old dog new tricks! LOL!

  23. The PRO's say. Tee it lower to hit more fairways. You will loose distance. When I tee it high. I tend to push right. I have try both ways. Not much diff. to me. LOL If i hit it good when it's teed high.

  24. Thank you loving the content ,I've caught a few of your videos and idk I've heard all of this many times but your teaching just sinks in , maybe the Honesty, I was wondering if you could possible do something on shaft lenth with a driver to help understand if shaft lenth matters or it doesn't? I game 44 1/2 and my excuse is I hit the middle of club face more often lol how bout I practice more with a 45 1/2 or even 46 idk maybe you can do something on that!! Thanks again great stuff!!

  25. I am half way through your video and have just seen the figures that you put up. You do not show the spin rate on the chart therefore I am not sure if the extra carry is due to the high tee or the low one. If I'm missing something, then I apologise.

  26. i've now reached the end of your video and it seems that a higher tee peg is best. I'll give it a go.
