Did Honda make a mistake by promoting #Joan Mir to their factory team instead of #Alex Rins? This is the question that is being asked in the MotoGP paddock after Mir’s struggles in 2023.

Mir, the 2020 MotoGP champion, has only scored 5 points in the first 3 races of the season, while Rins, who is riding for the satellite LCR team, has scored 47 points.

There are a number of reasons why Mir could be struggling. He may not be comfortable with the Honda RC213V, or he may be struggling to adapt to the team’s working environment.

Whatever the reason, it is clear that Mir is not performing at the level that he is capable of. This is a worrying sign for Honda, who are hoping to challenge for the championship in 2023.

Do you think Honda made a mistake by promoting Mir? Let us know in the comments below.

  1. Mir won the World Championship without winning one race. He was in the right place at the right time, nothing more. Anyone that goes to the Repsol team makes a mistake. Anybody but Repsol.

  2. Probably , but it is because that Mir won a Championship title before. Rins didn't….

  3. Rins should stay where he is. Rins has proven he can win on the bike.

  4. I believe Rins would have win even with Repsol , he stands out as a talented rider who adapts quickly and has high potential, in my opinion he would bring good achievements, maybe Marquez has something to the decision to prefer Mir over Rins?

  5. lol Honda wanted to be able to say that they had 2 World Champions regardless of Mir only winning 1 race in his entire GP career 🤫 everyone knew Honda made a mistake way back when it happened 😐 I’m surprised Alex Rins didn’t go to Aprilia instead of Honda it would have been a good fit 🥂

  6. The repsol honda is mm’s bike make no mistake! His best days are behind him and Honda best be looking to the future. If mm returns at France he will never be the same. Other riders do not like racing against him as he does not care if he hurts or God forbid kills another rider. Time for him to hang up his leathers. Rins is a talented rider and I sure hope Honda sees this.

  7. nowadays, riding for satelite team is more happier/enjoy than factory team because factory team expectations are stressfull to always get excellent result..

  8. When honda never hear riders, they never win. They has much good riders, can improve bike more, but Honda always say, our can built good bike without rider.
But now what? Competitor more good because hear they riders

  9. Look how many times Rins crashed in the last 2 years. He was on the best handling bike and would come through strongly in races but threw it away. Give him some more time before judging his ability to win a championship

  10. dont move alex your in a better team than repsol. your out pointing marquez and mir dont be sucked into a bad run honda factory team , that blames the riders and bases the bike on marquez and look where he this now , it time repsol honda looked more at the team bike and whos running it , and the way its run and of course honda always right

  11. YES, he would have win the Repsol… this is HIS CIRCUIT! also, Rins was always the better rider all troughout their Suzuki careers, Mir just got lucky with a short season with abcent Marc and Rins more DNFs to claim the 2020 title …

  12. No disrespect to Mir but it was proven last year for two Suzuki riders Alex was better and placed on podiums or won races. Repsol Honda has too many big eagle on the team and needs to own up to the there mistakes, I believe it was very disrespectful to Alex and don’t think he doesn’t know that too, mark my words this year Alex will continue to ride like a mad man. And here this with all of the injuries, Fabio not riding well and if Pekka slips off I believe Alex will be crowned this year’s champion.

  13. good grief, drama much? maybe the satellite bike has a development that fits Alex better, its 2 races FFS, whats it going to look like at the end of the season.. Mir earned the ride on the Factory bike, give him a full season FCS … lord is this what counts for news these day in mgp? pull up your huggies and make the ride your on work!

  14. The giant blunder is that Honda can't sort their bike out. Not even Marquez can win on it these days.
