  1. Taking the youth skiing next week Dan, to say he's excited is an understatement!! Sounds like they've got a great junior section at Newquay – kudos to the people involved for bringing so many in, the people that bring all these young golfers into the game don't get the recognition they deserve.

  2. Great to see Gilly on the channel! I do agree as finances tighten, golf courses will be hit! Adapting and offering more to members in terms of facilities is the key to keeping clubs buoyant. Great work gents.

  3. Nice to see Gilly back on the channel cant wait for vlog next week. Interesting to hear his views on retail side .. like all things would love to support local shops but when you can buy clothes , gloves , balls on line for sometimes 1/2 the price why wouldn’t you .. I dont buy new clubs but people I play with do and they go to a pro shop for fitting etc , but will still buy other items on line… I hope that pros like Gilly do survive but unfortunately I think a number wont.

  4. Great to see Gilly and whilst he often plays the joker he is really grounded and the comments he made about the golf industry is spot on !

  5. Always good to see Gilly on the channel and hear his views on things. It would be nice to see an in depth video of how the he plays the different types of shots on links course with the wind blowing.

  6. Always good to see Gilly on the channel. It would have been cool if you got Rocky and Gilly together

  7. Heat..eat or buy golf stuff, hmm, for the normal guy/family its always the norm, its tough for everyone!!

  8. Enjoyed that, always nice to see Gilly and interesting to hear about the difficulties faced by the pros. Very impressive on the ski's Dan. Over 40 years ago I played Newquay and after the round put my half set in the bin and went to the car to sulk. Thankfully a dear departed friend got them out and put them in the boot and at 68 years of age I knocked it round the old course last week. I'll always be grateful to him for that.

  9. Always great to see Gilly on the programme. His comments are spot on. Golf is going through tough times and it could get worse. Cost of living crisis is hitting everybody. I’ve not bothered to buy any new winter gear this year. Nice show as always Dan.

  10. Nice to see Gilly on the show. He's doing the odd sale via Twitter, and I managed to bag a pair of FJ's from him last year. Prices for golf gear in general too high atm. Clubs unbelievably so. I also think golf clubs should and could be more creative about the pricing structure for memberships to cater for the occasional player or one that wants to play different courses.

  11. Always love seeing Gilly on the channel! Is there any way that those of us outside the UK can support Gilly with some pro shop purchases? He’s provided us with so much entertainment. Cheers boys!

  12. Took the fam to Park City last month & great time & memories! Skiing is like golf as the more you fight it the harder it is..technique & confidence are your friend.

  13. I wonder if the club manufacturers could focus on maybe 1 driver head and 1 set of irons, and that would cut down on R&D costs and lower prices for the consumer. I think release cycles should maybe be 2 years. As consumers, we are b being overloaded with new clubs with marginal gains. Let the tour players have their own clubs. That's fine with me. I'll spend money on balls and shoes.

  14. Hi Dan another enjoyable Sunday morning. Unfortunately with the direction the club I'm a member of is going, it's pushing 100s of its members to look elsewhere. Then there are waiting list to adhere to through no fault of our own . But pricing has moved in the last 6 months . One club we looked at was £1095 for 7 day membership all in , which was ideal . Now it's £1250 + £400 signing on fee , another has gone from a similar £1050 to approximately £1150 + £300 signing on fee , I say approximately as I'm still waiting for the final fee . Fortunately I've been offed a place ready for March/ April but it won't be any of these as the signing on fee really puts me off as I'm only changing due to circumstance of the club I'm at . If there is a u turn coming I can see these signing on fees are going to dwindle again for a lot of clubs as a it's going to get either too expensive for some . Or it's going to make clubs more selective . It's a difficult time both for clubs and their members 😞

  15. When you said “it’s gone miles “ I remember lesters 5 iron on that hole last year, what a shot he hit

  16. Question to manufacturers: Why is golf equipment so expensive.
Answer from manufacturer: Because you'll pay it.
They know that enough will sold at the highest margin before they think about knocking 20% off. If you want to make a change don't buy any new clubs for a couple of years or buy last year's clubs at a bargain price.

  17. Great vid Dan. Good to know there is a vlog with gilly coming up. Good insight into how the cost of living and all the other rises have affected golf clubs/pro shops. I think with the cost of new equipment pro shops will struggle to sell them but the second hand market will boom

  18. Hi Dan, nothing to do with this posting but hope you can answer a question.
On a previous video you covered Plumbob which I've adopted and having success with.
I often see Paul, James and Dog lining up a putt crouching low lining up their putters over the ball, is this too a version of plumbob?
    Curious

  19. I know cost are rising everywhere at the moment but I think some places are pricing people out of golf. A club local to me that was bought by new owners and they have now added a £1000 joining fee and upped the annual membership by £500. So for first year you’re looking at nearly £3000!

  20. Great to see Gilly back on the channel, glad no bones were broken after his 🎿 holiday, love the Gilly the Eagle photo. Agree with you both about the high price of equipment this year. After seeing your vlog on pxg irons I was lucky to get a set of iron's you reviewed for half price. Always love seeing Newquay after playing there many times. Talking about the european tour i was lucky to have Daniel Gavings at 200/1 to win his second tour win.

  21. Good Sunday show. Gilly's comments are astute and perceptive. Golf – at club level – is facing some tough times. Still seems to be plenty of investor cash available for the main Pro tours, though

  22. Paying the green fee on a cold day like that… does that qualify as masochisitic?

  23. Gilly is always a treat! I think it’s a combination of the economy struggling and golf manufacturers and the industry as a whole getting greedy during Covid times. Our courses have 6 months to make money from golf so they’ve gouged people for two years now. I agree that things are changing and I’m curious to see in the Spring what our courses are like here 🇨🇦. We have other issues (mainly our politicians) that will affect what people spend on as well, so we’ll just wait and see. Great show as always Dan!

  24. Talking of the price of equipment I have never bought a new club. Always second hand. My whole set probably costs less than a brand new driver. It’s madness.
    Can’t see it ever changing

  25. Good vid, always good to see Gilly on the channel. Any news on the bus tours?? When will you want money for them?

  26. I went skiing and loved it, though was better going backwards than forwards! There is the key, memberships fees up a lot over the last 10 years when inflation was low… Unnecessarily in a lot of cases as I said in your prev show. Maintaining a membership will come at the expense of equipment… There's no point having a nice pair of shoes and bag of clubs then can't afford to use them… That's how it is at the minute.. bag of clubs or holiday or food and heating, that's the reality of the economy. Manufacturers might just need a disastrous year to slow up the pace of producing new products..

  27. From what I see. Having a club pro shop is dying off due to the expense. People will like something in the shop and then check online if they can cheaper. Some will price match but some might not make money or has made very little on the sale. Shame really

  28. Gotta feel for anyone like gilly who relies on sales problem is way over priced products that basically are just not worth the outlay you can watch a you tuber trying the same brands last 20 drivers from probably a span of 15 20 years ago and not much if any extra yards or straighter still have to adhere to the tolerances allowed if you believe the hype you’d have pensioners hitting 400 yard drives

  29. Always great to see Gilly. Nice to hear the inside scoop on the golf industry and where it's headed from someone who's knee deep in it. Dan, you're doing a bang on job for the Sunday Morning Show since Bernie is no longer involved, missing him and wishing him all the best. Cheers

  30. Prices over here in Oz is ridiculous, over $1000 for the new ping driver, clothing and balls are expensive to. We all just have to make things last longer. Cheers
