Mark Crossfield talks iron striking golf swing tips that just help golfers improve strike. Simple golf lessons from PGA professional Mark Crossfield for golfers wanting to lower their scores.
I struggle getting the club to shallow. I tend to get to the top of my backswing and immediately rotate without letting my arms fall enough so I’m left with the only option of out-to-in club path
I tend to struggle with committing to attacking the ball…i lift up.and come out of it sometimes because my mind panics that I'm going to just smash the club into the floor and hit a big fat shot and look silly…😄
Mark! I've used this practice swing for years (hip level length) side to side, heal to heal. I'll have to try the narrower stance!!! Great suggestion!!!
1 to try tomorrow, cheers Mark👍. Just tried it, took me 10 or so shots to get used to it & then it was great – normal set up then far better with 6 iron – thx Mark👍👍👍
my two big problems are over the top-which I worked on today- and sway- which I will work on tomorrow with this drill. Nice to get a drill without having to watch a 15 minute video that contains 30 seconds of substance. You have gone directly to the substance. Well done and thank you.
I consider myself an above average golfer. I taught myself at a young age, I am now 45 years old and have been changing this 1 thing my whole life. It’s what to do right before I swing. I’ve tried every trigger possible and always change my mind on what I should do. I started with nothing triggering my swing but then felt I’d be more consistent with a trigger like starting my backswing with a putting most of my pressure on instep on front foot and just letting it happen. But I always go back to being stagnant before I swing feeling eventually with these triggers could lead to me moving forward or being in a bad position. It’s driving me crazy
That’s interesting I have done the feet together drill but not with the added lifting of the heals. I like it. I would like to see your ideas on starting your downswing with the lower body before you have reached the top of the backswing.
I have about 3 loose shots a round that keep me at a 10 when I should be a 5. I’ll thin or toe or neck one sure but those don’t destroy my score. Those go straight just not enough distance(chip and a putt)
I’m talking about a huge slice out of nowhere(I fade the longer stuff but most people would call it straight, and mid to short is really straight).
I’m now at a point where I have a one way miss but I have a couple bananas every round. The funny part is they are pure strikes.
Mark how do I get rid of the round killing shots?
540 yard par 5 driver 4 wood over water chip putt then 50 yard miss. I pulled a 7i 30 yards on a par 3. Shot 41-37.
I’m going to have bad swings, but it’s the terrible ones I can’t accept.
This is a great drill. I use this when I start my practice sessions. Gives me the feel I am looking for and stops me from putting too much into the shot. I use it on the course at times as well when things go south a bit. Seems to get me back in the grove. Good one Mark.
I struggle with fat iron shots. No matter what drills I try I still hit behind the ball 80 percent of the time. Even when I "walk through" the shot I still hit it fat. It's taking the fun out of the game.
This is a great drill and helped to fix my unsynchronised upper and lower body movements (difficult not to turn the hips first with the feet together!). One thing I've struggled with is preventing my hands from premature flipping, causing fats and occasional thins. Whenever I try to fix it by keeping the hands ahead, I end up blocking it way out to the right or slicing it. What's a good 'feel' for keeping the hands ahead of the clubface?
I struggle with slicing or over-drawing irons from a 7 down. I’ve been told it’s cause I don’t hit down on them enough but when I do that everything just gets worse…
Hi Mark . I had the dreaded S word for over a week. and using this drill it sorted the problem easily . I now use it before every round for 5 mins and a couple of practice swing's before every shot
Really struggled today with my iron play I’m hitting ground far too heavy on grass , at the range fine , but on the course big divots ball going no distance not sure what I’m doing wrong some shots are great but the majority are poor any ideas
I love that we call an 8 iron a medium iron now, used to be considered a short iron… but of course that was when my 6 iron had the same loft as the 8 iron in Mark's bag. Funny thing is, I'm sure Wagon Wheels were bigger then.

Now, that looks like a great tip, will be trying this one for sure, thanks Mark
I struggle with low point and end up either flipping or just adding loft.
Recently went for a fitting and was anywhere from 0.5-2in behind on low point.
Hi Mark, great tip, I struggle finding the ground at times resulting in thin or bladed shots.. some tips on this would be great.
Great tips thanks Marc
So glad I had this in the auto play list. So bored of the ‘amazing swing’ dross objectifying women. Keep em coming mark

I struggle with my 5/6 iron, I hit high on the face
Struggling with woods and Driver as always

Love the 60 second tips!
Awesome tip

I think this will help me because I find that, when I am striking poorly, I slide rather than pivot/rotate. It usually causes me to "fat" shots.

I struggle with missing in a predictable way. My miss hits are fun! is a fat then a thin. Toe then heel. I'm really good at surprises.
This drill has Improved my iron strikes Dramatically..
I’ve done this for years while warming up on the range. Great drill which helps me keep from sliding/swaying during the swing.

Inconsistent low point.
Going to give this a go, struggled with my iron strikes a bit lately. Would honestly love to get a lesson with you, shame I live in another country

I like this playing/striking tip. I will practice this today. Thank you

Thanks. I struggle with moving back and forth causing chunky strikes ir very thin strikes
That looks like a great tip because I usually thin the golf ball
This is my go to tip if I am struggling with good strikes it really does work 👍🏼⛳️
I struggle with slicing or over-drawing irons from a 7 down. I’ve been told it’s cause I don’t hit down on them enough but when I do that everything just gets worse…
Love that mate
I struggle to close the face with driver, woods and hybrids. That's my issue with strike.

I've never hit the ball as pure as when I do this drill…. But how do I transition from the drill to a proper swing???
@crossfield
Can you please make a Video on tennisplayers gering into Golf? 😃😃😃

Great drill
My strike issue is an early release that causes things and fats and the dreaded chicken wing

I’m always digging extremely deep into the ground and under the ball. Contact extremely high on the face
I'm struggling with fat shots and tops so I'm assuming it's to do with weight transfer and leaning back
I use this when I am making short chips under 30 yards. Best way to start off on the driving range
Will this help creat lean shaft?
