Today, Ian is joined by Martin Chuck from the Tour Striker Golf Academy. Martin is one of the top instructors in the world and today he gives Ian a lesson on wedge control.

Martin takes Ian through his technique on controlling the distance on your wedges.

The benefits are obvious, you will give yourself more makeable putts and help you avoid three putts and tough chips. What isn’t obvious is the fact that Martin starts from the end position and works his way back.

Let’s see how Martin’s technique works out when Ian gives it a go.

  1. curious about club selection inside 100. Is this a preference to use a 3/4ish lob wedge? what about using a 54? 50?

  2. I usually have this style of finish. I find if it's abbreviated it means I have to hit through the ball. Helps spin and prevent deceleration.

  3. Outstanding shot game approach for many type of distances using THIS style of hitting a shot. Ian, I wold have recommend used a 52-54 degree wedge for such shots, get that hight down in order to control the trajectory. I approach distance of this nature as mid-long pitch shots.

  4. People I play with always ask me how I hit my wedges so low especially on half and 3/4 wedges. This is exactly how.

  5. This guy and his team are near you on the east coast eh, do you know of any Alberta, BC coaches of this quality anyone ?

  6. Big fan of this content, in unison with the fitting. Fitting is only as good as the result on the course. Good to see the boys on one.

  7. I’m quickly becoming a fan of this channel and especially Martin Chuck – this lesson is pure gold.

  8. Last I checked, wedges & putts from 75 yards should not be inside of 10'… Especially with the guys I play with 😂 Those were on the money!! Absolutely love this content and we need more of it 🙏

  9. Didn't know Martin was a Knudson guy— some Jimmy Ballard type stuff in that swing. I have heard Faldo talk of the clock method, but he emphasizes rotating your chest through also.

  10. Love these lessons with Martin! As a winnipeg boy does he have any suggestions on who to get lessons from in Wpg?

  11. Despite playing golf for decades the worst part of my game by far was my short game, from 80 yards and in I used to haemorrhage shots at an alarming rate!
That was until my 11-year-old grandson decided that he wanted to play golf with grandpa Bandit. So as an intro to golf I started taking him to the academy Par3 Course at our local Club. After a month of just messing around suddenly, my short game became razor sharp. The holes range in length from 50 to 110 yards and the Greens are tiny and there are lots of undulations. So the moral of the story is if you want a great short game get yourself a Grandkid!

  12. Absolutely loving this series with Martin Chuck, great idea Ian and TXG. Some real gold information being delivered. Great effort guys

  13. "it literally went in" and you guys laugh it off like that wasn't a 1 in a million putt lmao

  14. Generally speaking I really think that Martin Chuck is awesome but this one didn’t do it for me. It was basically a lesson on how to saw-off a wedge shot follow through. There wasn’t any real mention on how to judge distance or develop a gapping system. He obviously has one that he stands by and believes in but it wasn’t communicated well in this video imo.

I still gave it a 👍 because I do think that he is an amazing communicator.

  15. Sorry, kind of disagree with the tip especially for the mid to high handicapper. I would suggest shorting the grip to establish the yardage required. For example for the SW = mid-grip ~70yds, low grip ~ 50yds and of course full grip ~ 90yds. Deacceleration or stopping the swing as suggested is less consistent, in my view. And yes, some golfers find great success with backswing to 9 o'clock, 11 o'clock etc….. my point is keeping the swing through-out the swing for all clubs. My 2 cents worth. Enjoyed the video.

  16. Practice a similar approach. Was taught to also open the face maybe 1/4 to 1/2” to engage the bounce.

  17. Love this. I'm a feel player but I know that for consistency I need to control my wedge head range of motion and stoppage, grip pressure etc. I'll be practicing my wedge distances at the range when my hand heals
