From £400,000 a week Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who joined the Italian giants on a Bosman from Arsenal, to Nicolas Anelka, who was sacked by West Bromwich Albion, HITC Sevens takes a look at some of the worst free transfers of all time.

  1. Alfie I could be wrong here but if memory serves me right Bogarde was brought in by Ken Bates without Vialli's knowledge. There's a story that the first Vialli knew of it was walking into a club dinner and seeing Bogarde sitting at a table.

  2. Maybe you guys have seen the video of a juve fan asking Ramsey for an autograph then showing the cameras that piece of paper was a mock "contract termination" document.
That's how bad that signing was

  3. The fact that everyone has blamed Bogarde for the last 20 years only shows how messed up our society is; it's a reflection of the way we are, after all. An employer offers a man a ludicrous amount of money and the certainty of a four-year contract – he knows it's ludicrous, but for whatever reason they don't, he has the advantage, he snaps their hand off – more fool them, he thinks. Because they are the fools, and he is just a man who wants to earn a living. Most people would rightly choose to do the least amount of work possible in that time, but he remains professional – the opportunities to do his job just don't come his way. At the end of his contract, having proven himself both an honest man and a professional, he leaves. The media, and subsequently the public at large, then lambast the employee for doing what was best for himself and his family; they sympathise instead with the faceless corporation that employed him, and see the man as a villain of the lowest order. I mean, how absolutely fucked up is that?!

  4. Do an XI of players from Euro and World Cup winning teams. From a quick calculation I believe that's an 11 with 3 subs. Or do the same but Copa América instead of Euros, which would be an 11 with 1 sub (or manager…)

(What I mean is, for example, one Brazilian player from any of their winning teams, one Argentine, one Italian, one from France, England, Spain, etc). The beauty of this if you did the Copa América suggestion is you'd have to pick a player from the 1963 Bolivia squad… take the challenge Alfie

  5. Obscure video request but could you do a 'what is going on at Durham City AFC' £150,000 in debt, no ground and can't keep hold of staff 😥

  6. Being a baggies fan. Anelka is definitely up there. But worst ever?? Like you said he was on a free. We actually paid money for likes Craig Beattie, Luke Moore, Markus Rosenberg, Sherjil McDonald, Frank Nouble, Brown Ideye, Giles Barnes, Rueben Reid, Trevor Benjamin, Rickie Lambert, Jay Simpson, & Daniel Sturridge!!!

  7. As a Derby fan, Ravanelli was tragic for us. Signed for £40k a week, massive money at the time, scored 14 goals in 2 seasons we got relegated and spent multiple years paying him off

  8. Joe Cole to Liverpool has to be number 1… it cost Liverpool 5 million to get rid of him, which was alot back then, no to mention his wages. Joe Cole use to be a good player, which why everyone thought he was a catch to get "for free", but no, he was a disaster and terminating his contract cost 5 million.

  9. Not West Ham’s worst in recent times. Seems you’ve forgotten about Roberto (how I envy you being able to forget about him)

  10. Alexi Sanchez, Arsenal to Manu on 400,000 pounds/ week (at least). Even when Utd managed to offload him to Milan(?) after 2 poor seasons they still had to pay half his wages. Total disaster.

  12. Most men on this list did what any sensible person would do. They beat the system, now their grandkids can eat…good for them.

  13. Does my teams one not count as the worst? Graeme Souness signed Ali Día on a month contract for us at Southampton some time ago

  14. did you remember Man United's Park Ji Sung used to play for QPR as well? Yeah me either LOL

  15. Will you stop repeating that nonsense about Ramsey's wage of 400k a week. It was about 130k a week. But at the end of the day not important really because every euro wasted on him was to much. Absolutely the worst signing Juve has done in years. Most of the time injured, and even when healthy he vas mostly useless. He just symbolizes absolutely atrocious reign of incompetent Fabio Paratici who has literally destroyed Juve team with his idiotic decisions.

  16. Owen would never even come close to Rooney had he not suffered those injuries!
I have no idea how you can overrate him so much Alfie, Owen's problem is that he never had enough talent
