The simplest and fastest way to improve your driver performance and any golf club in your bag, is to hit the sweet spot more often. We said it was simple, not necessarily easy! Improving golf driver strike location is so important for straighter and longer drives. Do you know how to strike a driver pure? If you’d like most golfers, then you’ve probably strived to keep your eye on the ball, keep your head down, straight lead arm and other golf driving tips.
The first step to be aware of your contact patterns right now and to understand gear effect in golf. What is gear effect? Gear effect is the phenomenon where, different spins are imparted on the golf ball at impact by the clubhead, especially the driver. These spins vary greatly, depending on where on the clubface the golf ball is struck. So greatly in fact, that it is often the difference between hitting and missing a fairway, or a good and poor drive.
The flight of the golf ball varies so much, that we can work out where on the clubface, you strike a driver or iron. What happens when you toe the driver? Or hit it low and out the heel? This is where understanding gear effect is so critical. Aussie Golf Pros go into some crazy detail, demonstrating and explaining gear effect and how each part of the driver imparts a different spin on the golf ball, influencing direction, trajectory and distance. Toe vs heel strike is just scratching the surface. Vertical gear effect impacts the trajectory and spin rate of the golf ball.
This golf driver swing lesson doesn’t contain the latest golf tips for driving straight or latest fad golf swing drill. Using strike spray (or dry shampoo) we can gain quality feedback on the golf driver impact position. This feedback leads to greater awareness and is a crucial step towards improving control. Learning how to strike a golf ball with a driver is equally important for all golfers from beginners to advanced players, juniors, ladies and senior golfers.
We would like to thank @Adam Young for sharing his knowledge on ball flight and golf improvement. His channel is a great learning resource.

Golf Coaches, Not Teachers
The Aussie Golf Pros are holistic coaches in every sense of the word. Steve and Glen are both fully qualified members of the PGA of Australia and are avid students of the Sports Sciences. Together, they are certified in Advanced Golf Coaching, Golf Psychology, TPI (Body-Swing Connection), NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), Personal Development and Skill Acquisition.
Steve and Glen are not ‘Method’ coaches. They recognise that there are literally 1000’s of ways to swing a golf club! Rather than try to ‘change’ your swing, their goal is to help You Be The Best Golfer You Can Be!
Skill Development vs Technical Changes
Although technique is an important factor in improving a golfer’s performance, Skill Development is largely neglected in golf coaching today. Skill is something that can be tangibly improved with proper understanding of the golf impact laws and effective practice towards improved performance.
