Speed is important in putting and having the putting stroke be similar sized on the back stroke and follow through leads to good speed control. It also helps keep the putter face square through impact as deceleration can lead to the face closing and over acceleration can lead to the face opening. Take several practice strokes and feel good tempo and the putter move back and through with similar sized strokes.
