To produce proper impact with an iron, we need a descending angle of attack, a forward-leaning shaft and a low point that is past the golf ball.

A simple way to work on this is to put two tees, put them 18 inches apart and create a line with two golf balls in between. The goal is to produce a divot that starts on the line and moves beyond the line.

Too often amateur golfers start their divots before the line with no forward-shaft lean, which results in fat shots.
