Scotty Cameron putters are the most sought-after flat sticks in golf — and we have a real problem with the new ones: nearly every current model now has a soft insert instead of the milled face that made Scotty, Scotty.
We walk through every Scotty on our shelf — Phantom mallets, Studio Style blades, the low-torque OC models, limited releases, and the Circle T tour putters — and explain why the tour guys are putting with milled faces while the rest of us get inserts.
Stick around for the Circle T Newport 2 Trevor actually put in the bag, then tell us in the comments: milled or insert?
In this video Tayte and Trevor break down Scotty Cameron’s lineup logic (why is everything a decimal point now?), the Newport vs Newport 2 debate, the Phantom 7.2 and the new Phantom 12, the chain-link insert faces vs. the classic milled feel, why a $500 putter headcover still doesn’t have magnets, the “Scotty flex” vs. a $1,000 LAB, Odyssey, and Bettinardi, the Wednesday drops and whether a limited release is really one-of-one, and what actually makes a Circle T a Circle T. If you’ve been eyeing a Scotty Cameron Newport 2, Phantom, or Studio Style putter and can’t decide, this is the honest retailer’s take before you buy.

That Scotty chain link mill/insert sucks. It’s like putting with a pillow.
To me the inserts are softer and are better for x type balls
I emailed them asking why in the world they have Velcro for hardcovers and I got a response saying to email someone else and when I did never got a response lol
Everyone copies each other, but the BEST at copying others is Scotty Cameron. 8:17
ya my scotty on a shelf right now. they also went a bit mad produced for art. I live right by their San Diego retail shop, it's always fun to visit. hey guys we need a cavity back irons comparison vid, mizuno, srixon, tm, takomo 301cb, miura, etc. you did game improvement and maybe players distance maybe blades but not sure you did cavity back players.
Can you guys review some different putter brands: SWAG, Hanna, Kevin Burns. Would be awesome.
I agree with the insert not being ideal. I had a 7.2 and loved the shape but it had a weird sound on the course. Went to a spider tour x
Love the videos, when you start giving things away at 100K feel free to send any left gear <3
My problem with Scotty Cameron putters is they went from being super custom limited quantity pieces to being mass produced products.
Love hearing other retail guys use the term “sku’s”
And why I play Bettinardi
It’s confusing when you don’t know anything about them yet.
With a Little effort you realize that the decimal are the necks and they’re the same across the canton lines. Slant necks, plumbers neck, double bend. Jets. Same decimals
I can't believe we're not at 100k yet.
It's not subjective, the insert is trash!
My gripe on my fastback putter is that the cover doesn't fit it correctly. It comes w a blade cover. And yes no magnets are terrible
Sounds like they are trying to say but not actually saying that Scottie has benefited from the marketing of tour players using milled but rather than producing milled for retail, they are selling higher profit per unit insert putters to us…
You guys are absolutely right. As much as I want to make the switch to a Scotty Cameron mallet, I just can't get used to the softer feel of the insert. I own both an Odyssey Damascus Milled putter and a Scotty Cameron Phantom 9R, and despite really wanting to put the Phantom in the bag, I keep going back to the Damascus. I simply prefer the firmer feel and more responsive feedback at impact. Hell, even my Spider Tour X puts a better roll on the ball than the Phantom 9R. Scotty Cameron keeps talking about incorporating feedback from Tour players, but as you guys pointed out, how many of those players are actually gaming putters with milled inserts? I just don't understand the direction Scotty Cameron is taking. Instead of improving on what made their putters so desirable in the first place, it feels like they're moving away from it. In my opinion, Scotty is starting to get this all wrong.
Pretty sure Scotty Cameron’s name was built in Bettinardi workshops. Bettinardi started milling single piece forged putter heads. Scotty teamed with Robert and they made Scotty Cameron brand putters for like 8-10 years starting the Cameron legacy
gentlemen. once again, you do not know what you're talking about. if you don't know, just don't say anything. Guys on tour off the top of my head in the insert: Ludvig Aberg, Ryan Gerard, Max Homa, Brendon Todd, Kensei Hirata (currently leading a tournament on the pga tour), Peter malnati, Zach bauchou, Jeffrey Kang….several guys that have Monday q'd into pga tour events…on the dp world tour…rafa Cabrera bello, Jacob Skov Olesen, victor Perez, Nicolai von Dellingshausen, Thomas Pieters, Peter Uihlein, David Puig, Cameron smith, Andreas halverson….. ALL of these guys use the carbon steel insert. Guys, please, do some research before u just start spouting off about things you don't know.
If you buy a new Scotty Cameron putter you're needing your head checked, just like new drivers. Complete rip off.
This video left me more confused on Scotty’s. To many options. I’ll just keep 3 putting for now!
Forget the inserts. Can they stop using Velcro in their headcovers already??
I have the Scotty Cameron GoLo S with a Black head. Absolutely lovit. I have tested taylormode ZT, Oddesey, Lab and Sausage putters, but i just can not take my GoLo out of the bag
Love my new Catalina
Supposedly they make 4 to 9 of the 'circle T' putters that they drop on Wednesdays. 👍
I still rock my old ping Scottsdale tomcat from 15 years ago.
It is so sexy and get a blade look but less toe hang than a pure blade. It is a insert type and I would probably look for another insert model if I ever changed it.
Also my putter was like 130$ brand new back in 2011. putters has gotten so fucking expensive. I can’t understand how they cost so much today.
Racer is the McLaren design.
@6:18 everybody thinks this…. i feel like scotty cameron is giving off apple vibes (like features you know we have/but won't release again until later).
Love this channel. I’ve been rocking my Studio Select Laguna 1.5 since 2012. Still beats any of the new inserts SC puts out.
Scotty lost her market share because of inserts. Taylor made spider has become the most popular putter because of their SUPERIOR insert and how it gets the ball rolling that’s why Scotty has gone to inserts to try and claim back that market because their scientific proof that that Taylor made spider face rolls the ball better and they can control how it feels with what materials the inserts made of
My go to remains to be the Super Select Squareback 2 milled.
can we stop calling shapes, embosses, chamfers, and aesthetics "technology?" it's so cringe and gimmicky
I agree with you guys. In my opinion, consumerism has gotten to the point that manufacturers are struggling to reintroduce a new line every year, with new models with a new way to draw in customers. Companies like Titleist and now Taylormade have announced that they will be releasing new models every two years going forward. Personally, I think all companies have sacrificed quality for a new gimmick. I'm gaming a 2003 Scotty Cameron Studio no5, nothing is better than the quality, hand made putters that Scotty once had. He needs to get back to that quality.
Yet yall would be all over a teryllium putter. Gtfoh. The insert is good as is a non insert.
Milled Ai one #2 (silver) pushed my 10yr old Newport 2 onto marketplace.
i didnt lije Scotty until the inserts
So wait. If you don't live in Colorado you won't be part of the give away? Damn, been here for a hot minute.
And I hate the Velcro.
I personally like the clickiness of the non-insert putter.
ray cook gyro has been my best putter. tested labs, spyders and scotty in stores, but they don't feel like an improvement even though i know they are
I agree with the face insert problem, I play the 2024 phantom 9 and decided to switch to a blade so I tried the new Newport with the insert and hated the sound and feel, picked up a 2023 Newport and it felt and sounded so much better, I do love all the models though I don’t think that’s a problem, the 12 looks sick the new 3.2 is cool I don’t know if I’d ever bag it but to have and to try out would be cool I just don’t like the 3 lines
Solid video
I love Phantoms. They missed on the old Phantoms with the 3 dot sight lines.
Then they finally got the sight lines right then missed with the insert on the new Phantoms.
Maybe next release they’ll get them both right lol
