Australia’s Lucas Herbert is the latest big name to walk away from LIV Golf, delivering another damaging blow to the embattled circuit just days before players must decide whether to commit to its proposed new era.

According to independent golf reporter Tom Hobbs, who operates under the social media pseudonym “Flushing It Golf”, Herbert will leave LIV Golf to play on the DP World Tour in 2027.
Hobbs has become somewhat of a trusted source among the LIV playing group, and this latest revelation is sure to have LIV Golf Adelaide fans particularly concerned. The two-time LIV winner enjoyed the best season of his career on the circuit in 2026, finishing fourth in the individual standings and making headlines with a remarkable six-under-par 62 at The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, where he tied for sixth.
Lucas Herbert, an integral member of the all Australian Ripper GC on LIV Golf, has confirmed to me he is leaving the league to play on the DP World Tour in 2027.

Herbert’s departure is particularly significant for Australian golf. The 30-year-old has been a key member of Ripper GC alongside captain Cameron Smith, Marc Leishman and Elvis Smylie, with the all-Aussie team finishing second in the season-long team standings.
His decision also raises fresh questions about the future of Ripper GC and whether Smith and Leishman will remain with LIV as the league attempts to rebuild following the shock withdrawal of financial support from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).
Herbert’s rumoured exit comes amid an alarming run of departures over the past 24 hours, with Tyrrell Hatton, Ian Poulter, Tom McKibbin and Branden Grace also confirming they will not be part of LIV 2.0.
No official announcement has come from Herbert or his Ripper GC team.
