High school golf: Kingston’s Hand, Miller advance to second round of sectionals – Daily Freeman

MONTICELLO, N.Y. — Kingston High seniors Austin Hand and Andre Miller advanced to the second round of the Section 9 Golf Championships with qualifying rounds at the Monster Golf Club at Resorts World Catskills on Monday, Oct. 19.

Hand fired an 8-over-par 80, while Miller had an 84.

The duo made it to the second day by finishing in the top 20 in the first round out of 56 players in the 36-hole tournament. The top nine finishers following Tuesday’s final round at the Monster Course will advance to the state tournament in 2027.

Hand is currently in eighth place, while Miller is in 13th.

“Austin played solid, making a lot of pars and up and downs,” Kingston coach Juan Weissenberg said. “Andre grinded all day and had two clutch birdies on the par-5s to finally break 40 on the back nine for a 39. This is Andre’s first time making it to day two. I’m proud of both of them for making it to the second day.”

Saugerties High senior Ty Monroe was medalist with a 74.
