The idea originated from a letter sent by the Trump International Golf Club’s attorney to Palm Beach County commissioners. The federal government has since confirmed its interest in developing the property as a retreat where future presidents could meet with world leaders in Palm Beach County.
The golf club has proposed partnering with the county to establish the site as the “permanent United States presidential golf course.” The club stated it would provide access to its facilities at no cost to the federal government and that the retreat would be open to past, current, and future presidents, regardless of political affiliation, as well as visiting foreign heads of state.
The letter also proposed building a “presidential lodging facility,” with the club covering construction costs and working with the Secret Service on the design. Since the club leases the land from Palm Beach County, the county would also play a role in the project.
The letter cited the course’s security features, proximity to the airport, and limited surrounding development as reasons the site would be suitable for a presidential retreat. It also emphasized that the project is intended for Trump’s successors, as the club does not expect the project to be finished before President Trump leaves office.
The proposal has now entered the discussion and planning stage with Palm Beach County and the federal government.
