Hideki Matsuyama Explains How He Opened a PGA Tour Door for Japanese Amateurs

After more than a decade playing on Tour, Hideki Matsuyama wants to see more Japanese golfers follow the same path.

With a PGA Tour tournament taking place in Japan, he had a straightforward idea: ask for an additional place for a local amateur. The Tour agreed, with sponsors helping make the opportunity possible.

This week, Amateur Challenge winner and college freshman Koshin Nagasaki gets that chance.

Matsuyama discusses his hopes for the initiative, the fans arriving as early as 7 AM and his own preparations for another opportunity to compete at home.
