President Donald Trump has presented a bold proposal to Palm Beach County officials: he wants to transform part of his Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach into a permanent, “Camp David-style” presidential retreat. According to the proposal, Trump’s team is asking the county to provide a piece of land for the development, while Trump himself would pay for the construction of the residence and its accompanying facilities. The new space would be designed to host international summits and provide a dedicated, secure vacation spot for future commanders-in-chief in Florida. Because the massive project would not be completed before his current term ends, Trump’s team is pitching the retreat as a historic gift to all future U.S. presidents. The Washington Post reports that Palm Beach officials are seriously considering the proposal.
