Can a much cheaper iron genuinely perform just as well as the biggest names in golf?
We put Vice and Wilson head-to-head with Titleist, TaylorMade and Srixon — and removed as many variables as possible.
Same shaft. Equalised loft and lie. Pure performance. So does paying more actually get you more?
Want one of the most in-depth professional custom fittings you’ll experience?
At EP Golf Studios in Newbury, Berkshire, we don’t fit golfers based on handicap, swing speed or what a fitting chart says you should use.
We benchmark your current equipment, test different heads, shafts, lofts, lies and setups, analyse the complete ball flight and explain exactly WHY one option performs better for you.
If you want a thorough, honest and data-driven fitting where the goal is simply to find what genuinely performs best for your game, come and see us at EP Golf Studios.

In today’s video, we wanted to answer a simple question:
Can cheaper irons like Vice and Wilson genuinely compete with some of the best and most established irons in golf?
We tested:
• Titleist T150
• TaylorMade P770
• Srixon ZXi7
• Wilson Staff Model XB
• Vice VGI03
But rather than simply hitting each iron in its standard specification, we wanted this to be a proper performance test.
So we used the same shaft throughout and equalised loft and lie as closely as possible to remove some of the biggest variables that can completely distort an iron comparison.
That means we could focus much more closely on what each HEAD was actually doing.
We looked at every major performance metric, including:
• Ball speed
• Launch angle
• Spin rate
• Carry distance
• Peak height
• Descent angle
• Front-to-back dispersion
• Ball flight
• Forgiveness
• Overall consistency
The aim isn’t to simply crown one iron “the best”.
It’s to understand what you are actually getting for your money, whether the premium brands really offer a measurable performance advantage, and just how close the cheaper alternatives can get when you test them properly.
Because price, brand name and marketing don’t hit the golf ball.
Performance does.

In Sweden, where I live, Vice VGI03 cost more than Titleist T150. Given that almost all custom options are extra with Vice and included with Titleist. Heck, Tileist T150 is even cheaper than Takomo 201T, as soon as I build to my spec (MMT stiff +1", +2° lie, MCC Plus4 Mid). I will get my newly built sticks from Titleist next week.
