A coastal golf club in Moray has been put on the market just three years after it was sold to an American cryptocurrency-funded buyer.
Spey Bay Golf Club, established in 1907, has been put up for sale through HMH Golf and Leisure Estate Agents for offers over £1.5 million.

The course includes a well-stocked clubhouse and accommodation on-site. It is the club where the UK’s first Labour Prime Minister, Ramsay MacDonald, played.
Designed by architect Ben Sayers in 1907, the 18-hole course was bought in 2023 by Links DAO – an American cryptocurrency-funded golf community.
In addition to Spey Bay Golf Club, DAO also own Hillcrest Country Club in Kansas City, Missouri, and claims to be “a community of passionate golfers reimagining what it means to be a golf club”.
The company uses NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, to finance their ventures, and purchasing a Links DAO NFT entitles the owner to vote on the company’s ventures.
Before acquiring Spey Bay as its first location, users had to vote on whether they believed it was something worth pursuing – with 88 per cent agreeing it was.
The American firm bought Spey Bay – which currently has 329 members – for well over the asking price of £750,000.
The course has now been re-listed online.
A Facebook post from a Spey Bay Golf Club said the owners are “moving forward with more projects in the USA and see that area of their business being where all investment will take place from now on”.
